Implementing a Battery Management System (BMS) in Electric Vehicles (EVs) offers several benefits that enhance the efficiency, security, and durability of the vehicle's battery system. The BMS oversees and controls the performance of each cell in the battery pack, guaranteeing that they function within predetermined voltage and temperature thresholds to maintain safety. In this paper, an intelligent BMS for an EV model powered by a solar PV array was proposed using a fuzzy logic (FL) controller. The proposed method was applied to EVs consisting of four Lithium-ion batteries. The simulation results are achieved using MATLAB/Simulink software. The estimation of the state of charge (SOC) for each battery was used as input to the FL which controls the discharging/ charging mode for each battery via power semiconductor switches. Three different scenarios are used to verify the suggested method. A full control FL operation was obtained, and the batteries were protected successfully against overcharging and over-discharging.

Space weather can have a profound impact on trans-ionospheric radio signals. Through quantifying the intensity of a space weather event, from its genesis at the Sun to its effect on the ionosphere, many physical parameters must be extracted from scientific data. Consequently, they are used for the quick conveyance of a streamlined but sufficient space situational awareness. Nevertheless, space weather-driven ionospheric phenomena can impact many consumers in the communication and navigation domains, which are not adequately served by the existing indices. Here we propose and discuss the advantage of the new ionospheric index, known as M index over the Malaysian region in terms of disturbed storm time (Dst) and Total Electron Content (TEC). We took a geomagnetic storm event on 1st and 2nd June 2013. It has been found that the storm started effects over this region with a time delay of approximately 21 hours. The suggested ionospheric disturbance index may overcome several shortcomings of previous ionospheric measurements and may be appropriate as a possible driver for an ionospheric space weather scale. © 2022 IEEE.

Customer reviews on online platforms have grown to become an important source of insight into a company's performance. Food delivery services (FDS) companies aim to effectively use customers' feedback to identify areas for improvement of customer satisfaction. Although Arabic is becoming one of the most widely used languages on the Internet, only a few studies have focused on Arabic sentiment analysis to date. The present study conducts an extensive emotion mining and sentiment analysis on FDS-related reviews in Arabic, exploiting natural language processing, and machine learning techniques to extract information that reflects customers' subjective viewpoints, recognize their feelings, and determine polarity in the FDS domain. This work begins with collecting the FDS dataset (Talabat), and then extracting and creating a dialects lexicon for Arabic dialects, followed by walking the reader through detailed steps of cleaning and pre-processing a manually annotated dataset. Finally, we examined classification algorithms including Decision Tree (DT), and Support Vector Machine (SVM). We achieved a maximum accuracy of about 82% using the SVM classifier.

Accurate diagnosis of glaucoma is crucial due to its high risk of blindness, but the long examination time often undermines the reliability of results by examinee's subjective factors. We propose a method to reduce examination time by generating static perimetry results with Conventional Fundus Images (CFIs) utilizing the CFI2GM technique, which leverages multimodal data. Based on data from 3,306 glaucoma patients at Samsung Medical Center in Seoul, we conducted ophthalmic image translation utilizing the Pix2Pix model. Our method, combining cGAN, L1, and SSIM loss, achieved MSE 57.9886 and PSNR 30.6057 dB. Furthermore, we received positive feedback from ophthalmologist regarding the high practical applicability of the images generated by our method. This indicates that CFI2GM can enhance the reliability of glaucoma examination results as well as reduce testing time.

The effects of Alzheimer's disease (AD) are devastating, both personally and within the patient's family, as the disease progresses slowly over many years. It could significantly affect illness consequences and outcomes if detected early and accurately. Non-invasive medical testing often uses blood bio-samples because they are easy to collect and relatively cheap to analyze. This paper proposes a federated learning (FL)-based diagnostic model for AD using blood bio-samples. We have used blood bio-sample data sets downloaded from the ADNI website to test and compare the efficacy of our models. According to the enormous data collected for early AD detection, we used a hardware acceleration scheme to implement our FL model to fasten the training and testing operations. The hardware-Accelerator method is implemented using VHDL and Altera 10 GX FPGA. The simulation results show the proposed algorithms reach an accuracy and sensitivity of 89% and 87%, respectively, for early detection while taking less time to train than other state-of-The-Art algorithms. The proposed algorithms also consume 52-172 mW, which makes them suitable for constrained devices. © 2023 IEEE.

engineering the dialog of a humanoid robot like Pepper with human beings is challenging. The software from Softbanks allows the programming of spoken sentences and the understanding of specific words for apps on the robot. However, we recognized that the fexibility of the software is limited in this way. Therefore, we developed tools based on state machines that run on a server and communicate with the robot. In this way Pepper becomes a kind of thin robot. The paper discusses the architecture of the software, its advantages and the tools used within our project E-BRAiN (Evidence-Based Robot Assistance in Neurorehabilitation). Additionally, one of our identified interaction patterns is discussed. © 2021 ACM.

Drunk driving continues to be a substantial public health issue, leading to a multitude of accidents and deaths on a global scale. Conventional techniques for identifying drunk driving, such as breathalyzers and field sobriety tests, tend to be reactive rather than proactive. This paper surveys the existing methods for detecting drunk driving to enhance traffic safety. The technologies studied can proactively detect impaired driving behaviors by combining machine learning (ML) approaches with real-time data processing. The study outlines various classifications based on measured metrics and driving behavior.

Autism or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder marked by repetitive and characteristic patterns of behavior as well as social communication and interaction impairments. Nowadays ASD is a great concern worldwide and its detection is an important issue for the better treatment. As ASD is neurodevelopmental disorder, brain signals play, especially electroencephalography (EEG), is shown potential sources for ASD detection. There are different approaches for ASD detection with processing and/or transforming EEG signals. This study investigated ASD detection employing fractal dimension measure on EEG data. Higuchi's Fractal Dimension (HFD) is measured in resting-state eyes-closed EEG recording of 25 subjects. It is identified that HFD is sensitive to the brain activity and ASD detection is possible from HFD values. © 2021 IEEE.

After identifying an artifact as malware, the additional challenge arises of correctly classifying it into a specific family. This raises the challenge of classifying malware amid growing complexity and the increasing volume of cyber threats. Therefore, we introduce FORTUNATE, a framework that employs variable-length instruction sequences to classify malware more efficiently and accurately, focusing on real and active malware. By introducing effective methods for extracting opcodes and their representation in the smallest possible vectors, FORTUNATE surpasses the limitations of previous approaches, enabling the correct identification of malware in their respective families, while avoiding redundancies in the data. The results achieved with FORTUNATE demonstrate advances in both precision and computational efficiency, consolidating it as a significant contribution to the field of cybersecurity.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a serious, long-term health problem that causes much pain and loss for the person with it and their family. Its early and accurate detection might result in a substantial reduction of the disease outcomes and consequences. Blood biosamples are a simple and inexpensive technique in medical testing. This paper proposes diagnostic models for blood biosamples based on federated learning (FL) and its modifications to detect AD early. Our experiments used blood biosample data sets from the ADNI website to evaluate our models. Our performance analysis indicates that our algorithms are more accurate and achieve an accuracy of 87% for early detection. © 2023 IEEE.
