This paper proposes a novel statistical parameters based data driven approach for passive islanding detection. The proposed scheme relies in the voltage data, measured at the point of common coupling, and is comprised of three stages. The Stage-1 quickly detects what is termed as coarse islanding, Stage-2 computes the decaying DC detector (DDCD), and 3) finally, the digital relay logic (DRL) is devised in Stage-3. The proposed scheme is tested as per the IEEE-1547, UL 1741 and IEC-62116 standards. Various tests are investigated on the modified IEEE-13 bus system, modeled in PSCAD/EMTDC, under stringent test scenarios such as power mismatch, induction motor starting effect, capacitor bank switching and various level of loads changes, considered for both single and multiple DG systems. The test results reveal that the proposed scheme can detect islanding in less than 2 cycles, and results in nearly zero non detection zone (NDZ). Also, the scheme can very well be used for single-phase microgrids too as it relies only on the single phase voltage information.

The increasing concern about climate change has been leading researches in many areas to investigate solutions for this issue. An emerging subject related to it is electric vehicles (EV). Although it is an important topic, there is still a lack of review papers about EVs modeling. In this context, this paper aims to bring a review about EV modeling to fulfill this gap. A wide bibliography review is made to cover different kinds of EV s modeling, in many aspects. As a conclusion, in some areas, authors do not diverge from each other, while in others may exist a large range of different ways to model the EV s. In this case, researchers should choose the modeling that fits the best for their research, which may vary in simplicity and computational effort.

This paper presents a mathematical model of flow washing with the initial volume of the washing bath of preserved raw hides by salt. The main result of this work is the determination of the concentration field of the preservative in the raw material depending on the washing time and the size of the washing water flow, based on the correct laboratory-determined diffusion coefficient of the preservative using a tortuous factor. The paper points out the usefulness of applying theoretical tools of chemical engineering in areas such as the tanning industry.

In a recent paper [1], we developed a target capturing strategy for swarms composed of double integrator agents. In this paper, we build on the results in [1] and focus on the implementation of the methodology for a swarm composed of quadrotor UAVs. We utilize both MATLAB and ROS environments under realistic conditions for that purpose. In ROS, we utilize Ultra-Violet LED blinkers based Ultra-Violet Direction And Ranging (UVDAR) system for relative localization. The sensing and localization errors serve as realistic errors for the assumptions in [1] for the uncertainties of the velocity and acceleration of the target. We verify in a realistic scenario that the agents converge to a user-defined ellipsoidal ring around the target despite the uncertainties and the more realistic agent dynamics.

The article presents a simulation model of a pneumatic drive for electrodes of a stationary contact spot welding machine. Thanks to the developed model, it becomes possible to analyze the system, as well as visually study its operation. The result of modeling the system is the obtained transients of the elements of the pneumatic system. The developed simulation model adequately describes the state and behavior of a real system of pneumatic compression of electrodes. The work is of interest to pneumatic engineers, designers and other specialists working in the field of pneumatics and can be used for more accurate and efficient design, analysis and optimization of not only a specific system of pneumatic compression of electrodes, but also pneumatic systems in general.

The paper shows the process of developing a model of multistage evaporator station of a sugar factory based on a neural network. The neural network predicts the main performance indicators of the multistage evaporator station, such as the concentration of syrup at the output of the evaporator and the amount of evaporated water at the station. Unlike existing solutions, forecasting is performed in real time based on a set of indicators of the automation system (temperatures, flow rates, levels, pressure, density in the apparatus) and industrial laboratory (concentration of solids at the inlet to the evaporation station). The proposed neural network model has an MLP structure with 27 inputs, 2 outputs and one hidden layer with 20 neurons and predicts these indicators with an error of less than 5%. This allows to increase the informative support of the operator-technologist on the quality indicators of the enterprise without additional load on the industrial laboratory and without additional cost automatic quality devices, as well as to perform timely adjustment of the technological mode of the department.

Autonomous surface vessels comprise complex automated systems with advanced onboard sensors. These help establish situation awareness and perform many of the complex tasks required for safe navigation. However, situations occur that require assistance by a human proxy. If not physically present on board, information digestion and sharing between human and machine become crucial to maintain safe operation. This paper addresses the co-design of on-board systems and a Remote control Centre (RCC). Using the international regulations on watch-keeping (STCW) as a basis, the paper discuss how an autonomous system is designed to meet the STCW requirements. It is discussed how the autonomous system is made aware of the state of the vessel, its surroundings, on-board defects or navigational challenges and shared with the RCC in a collaborating system perspective.

We propose a hybrid controller for reference tracking for the output current of a solenoid. The solenoid can be modeled as a first-order linear plant with unknown parameters. The proposed hybrid controller comprises 1) a feed forward action, based on an estimate of the unknown plant parameters exploiting a hybrid formulation of the recursive least-squares method, and 2) a feedback action, exploiting a reset control scheme based on a first-order reset element. We prove stability properties for the closed-loop system and we show through simulations that the current output converges to the reference for sufficiently exciting reference signals.
