We show a method to detect accurate 3D position of people from multiple views, regardless of the geometry of the ground. In our new method we search for intersections of 3D primitives (cones) to find positions of feet. The cones are computed by back-projecting ellipses covering feet in input images. Instead of computing complex intersection body, we use approximation to speed up intersection computing. We found that feet positions are determined accurately, and the height map of the ground can be reconstructed with small error. We compared our method to other multiview-detectors - using somewhat different test methodology -, and achieved comparable results, with the benefit of handling arbitrary ground. We also present accurately reconstructed height map of non-planar ground. Our algorithm is fast and most of steps are parallelizable, making it possibly available for smart camera systems.

Almost all people who get laryngeal cancer are treated by laryngectomy. However, this treatment affects their voice since the larynx will be removed. This research presents a technique which can recover their voice to communicate with others again. The technique is esophageal speech;this technique does not require any additional device but it needs only a continuously training from speech therapist. In additional, the training software for esophageal speech is designed and developed based on three speech characteristics which are tempo, loudness and duration of speech. For more attractive, we developed into computer game-based. The experiment is divided by two groups of users;normal speakers and esophageal speakers. The results of experiments are evaluated by using Mean Opinion Score, and the score are 4 from esophageal speakers and 3.7 from normal speakers.

The rise of global competition and the demands for mass customization observed in recent years are the main shaping forces of the manufacturing domain. Current approaches to industrial production automation are not suitable to cope with the resulting increasing requirement in term of system agility and sustainability. While a quite large amount of innovative and sound technical solutions for automation address such an issue, it is not clear how the new generation of automatic production system will be economically connoted. This work proposes a first step towards an economical characterization of the Evolvable Paradigm: one among the most promising aforementioned innovative industrial automation technologies. A basic description of the state-of-the-art of the related Evolvable Assembly/Production system allows inferring a cost model able to account for such an installation. This, in turn, enable a quantitative description of how the focal innovative approach enables a more effective and rational use of industrial automation.

This paper focuses on the Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) synchronization problem for event-driven measurement applications. The objective is twofold: i) to provide high accuracy in the area where an event is detected, ii) to ensure a long network life time. These two objectives are conflicting. In fact, to increase the synchronization accuracy packets must be exchanged at higher rate, thus affecting the network lifetime. In several interesting applications a trade-off can be achieved based on the observation that, if the goal is to observe a localized event, only the portion of the network surrounding the detected event requires a higher accuracy. The proposed algorithm represents a formalization of this idea. Simulations are done to show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Besides, the process is subject to high temperatures, high pressures and much dust. Therefore, the systemcontrol technology that is applied in the steelmaking process must adapt to all those rigorous environmental conditions. The diagnostic system has dramatically improved the level of diagnosis of damage to oven walls that was formerly dependent on visual inspection from the oven opening. This paper reports the results from an evaluation by simulation of the effects of the "Green Wave Advisory (GWA)" system in simulated actual traffic environments in Japan. Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) has been involved with basic studies of this system as a V2I application coordinated with traffic lights. In particular, we examined the Deceleration Support system (DSS) which is designed to reduce wasteful fuel consumption by encouraging the driver to release the accelerator pedal earlier at red lights and to stop safely without hesitation at yellow lights. DSS is therefore a part of the GWA system which is useful not only for the reduction of CO2 emissions but also for promoting safe driving on roads in Japan, where the distance between intersections is often very short. Using the traffic simulation software VISSIM, we estimated the reduction in CO2 emissions and the effect on the traffic flow (travel times) for two different routes: one in the city of Tokyo and one in the suburbs. The results showed that the system could reduce CO2 emissions by more than 3% in the city and by more than 7% in the suburbs, and had almost zero effect on the travel times.
