Using induced L 2 -norm minimization, a robust controller was developed for insulin delivery in Type I diabetic patients. The high-complexity nonlinear diabetic patient Sorensen-model was considered and Linear Parameter Varying methodology was used to develop open loop model and robust controller. Considering the normoglycemic set point (81.1 mg/dL), a polytopic set was created over the physiologic boundaries of the glucose-insulin interaction of the Sorensen-model. In this way, Linear Parameter Varying model formalism was defined. The robust control was developed considering input and output multiplicative uncertainties with two additional uncertainties from those used in the literature: sensor noise and worst case design for meal disturbance (60 g carbohydrate).

The major efforts regarding this analysis, on algorithmic development, and on computations deal with the flow and temperature control and their optimization. This study treats the steady state in order to avoid the unsteady problems. The paper's analyses, i.e. the numerical analyses, and computations have addressed two important types of controls which are the air flow and the temperature. The principal object of this paper is to control several important characteristics of a chemical process by using an automatic device for optimization and system identification;in each case one intends to control the temperature degrees and the air pressure values in the same time, starting from a mechanical apparatus connected at a computer where there are installed the respective control software;this apparatus gives the possibility to set the temperature values at a specified pressure which can produce cold air.

This paper deals with liquid tanks management faced from an automatic control point of view;the motivation for the study is the need for an automated management strategy for two liquid tanks. The problem that is addressed in this paper is the control of liquid level on each tank by using the PD controller [2]. We encountered with an important problem that is the resulting disturbance from the intersection between these two tanks and the second tank drain, this disturbance has a negative effect in our system. We use in both tanks two valves that are controlled by two DC motors for adjusting the inflow of the liquid for each tank. As far as we know, such performance specifications are unattainable with the old existing methods [1].

The influence of random short time-delay to networked controlsystems (NCS) is changed into an unknown bounded uncertain part. Without changing the structure of the system, an H∞ states observer is designed for NCS with short time-delay. Based on the designed states observer, a robust fault detection approach is proposed for NCS. In addition, an optimization method for the selection of the detection threshold is introduced for better tradeoff between the robustness and the sensitivity. Finally, some simulation results demonstrate that the presented states observer is robust and the fault detection for NCS is effective.

The effects of thermo-cycling and vacuum ultraviolet radiation in low earth orbit on performance damage of Al/Kapton films were investigated using space environment ground-based simulation facility. An atomic force microscope (AFM) and a spectrophotometer were used to characterize the morphology of the surface layer of Al/Kapton films and their reflectivity. The results suggest that thermo-cycling and VUV radiation make the mass loss of Al/Kapton film samples, with the changes of surface morphology to some extent and significant decrease of reflectivity in the ultraviolet visible wave band.

In a measurement system, new representation methods are necessary to maintain the uncertainty and to supply more powerful ability for reasoning and transformation between numerical system and symbolic system. A grey measurement system is discussed from the point of view of intelligent sensors and incomplete information processing compared with a numerical and symbolized measurement system. The methods of grey representation and information processing are proposed for data collection and reasoning. As a case study, multi-ultrasonic sensor systems are demonstrated to verify the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

In this paper a method for coverage control for a convex region D ⊂ ℝ 2 in a dynamic environment is studied. An information map is introduced in which the information about each point is decaying with respect to time s.t. the robots must revisit them periodically. Also a time-varying density function is used for modeling moving points of interest. The considered gradient based control approach causes the cost function to stay within the desired bounds. But due to the non-stationary problem setup caused by the information decay it does not converge to a single point but to a bounded set, such that the robots keep gathering information continuously. With this method it is possible to gather information about several points of interest within the region D with only a few robots. In the end simulation results are presented to outline the effectiveness of the proposed control law.

This paper presents a speed control of an induction motor. The design uses an feedforward Artificial Neural Network (ANN) to implement a rotor speed estimator, and a robust control strategy based on the sliding-mode. The proposed control scheme also make use of the field oriented control theory to simplify the proposed control design. The stability analysis of the presented control scheme is provided using the Lyapunov stability theory. Finally simulated results show that the presented controller with the proposed observer provides high-performance dynamic characteristics and that this scheme is robust with respect to plant parameter variations and external load disturbances.
