Direct method and Time-domain method are two main methods of power system transient stability analysis. They have complementary superiorities and drawbacks . This paper presents a hybrid method for transient stability analysis, which combines the desirable features of the two methods. Based on correct identifying Critical Clusters (CC), it can find Critical Clearing Time(CCT) and give stability index quickly and precisely. Furthennore, detail models of power system can be considered in it . This method is successfully tested on the reduced system of 28 generators and 143 buses. It is shown to be a potential tool for on-line transient stability analysis.

An integrated controlsystem of active rear wheel steering (4WS) and direct yaw moment control (DYC) is presented in this paper. Because of the tire nonlinearity that is mainly due to the saturation of cornering forces, vehicle handling performance is improved but limited to a certain extent only by steering control. Direct yaw moment control using braking and/or driving forces is effective not only in linear but also nonlinear ranges of tire friction circle. The proposed controlsystem is a model matching controller which makes the vehicle follow the desired dynamic model by the state feedback of both yaw rate and side slip angle. Various computer simulations are carried out and show that vehicle handling performance is much improved by the integrated controlsystem.

An adaptive genetic algorithm (AGA) coded in a float number vector which can be potentially used to solve the problem of estimation of the interconnection weights in the large scale neural networks is easily implemented in MATLAB, and a framework of FFN based dynamic system identification using this algorithm is proposed in this paper. In the algorithm, a float number vector representation is used to naturally treat with the multiple parameters in real value and a mechanism of adapting the probability of mutation is introduced in order to avoid the premature convergence. The simulation experiments show that this algorithm outperforms the standard genetic algorithm coded in a binary string (SGA) both in convergent speed and in accuracy. Finally, a FFN-based model of a nonlinear dynamic system is trained by both the SGAs and the AGAs. and the comparative results are given to demonstrate the AGAs’ good performance and efficiency’.

Identification and control for nonlinear dynamic systems still remains a challenging issue. Neural networks based models and controllers have often been effective in representing fields. In this paper, identification capability of radial basis function neural networks (RBFNN) is integrated into nonlinear internal model control to obtain a new control strategy. The model of inverse of the process is identified by training RBFNN. The NIMC controller consists of a model inverse controller and a robustness filter. At last, the simulation results for a continuous stirred tank reactor process demonstrate the advantage of the performance of the new strategy over that of a conventional PID controller.

The application of fuzzy logic controllers to improve power-system damping behaviour has received some attention in the literature during the last few years. The paper presents an approach in which besides speed and its first derivative, the second derivative is applied to the Fuzzy-set based power-system stabilizer (PSS), so that a three-dimensional space with improved behaviour is formed. The parameters are then optimized by the new searching technique, the genetic algorithm. Excellent digital simulation results are demonstrated for a single machine infinite bus-bar systems.

A survey on applications of control technologies in Japanese industries is made based on the inquiry investigation conducted in 1995 by SICE. To the inquiry investigation, 148 engineers from 110 factories responded and gave 148 examples of applications. The survey also makes use of the data of the similar investigation conducted in 1989 by JEMIMA for comparison purpose. Several statistics about characteristics of plants, areas of applications, advantage and disadvantage of each technology, expectations of engineers, etc. are given, which clarifies several features of the future needs for control theory.

The work deals with the synthesis of possible structures of quasi-resonant buck converters on the basis of their topological definitions. Cases of applying soft switching zero voltage or zero current switches, current or voltage bi-directional were discussed. Next, the results of analysis and computer simulation-current or voltage transients in particular circuits was presented. Identical and differing transients were found. Characteristic properties or current and voltage value for particular circuits were compared, which gives indications for designing them.
