This paper presents an eXplainable Fault Detection and Diagnosis System (XFDDS) for incipient faults in PV panels. The XFDDS is a hybrid approach that combines the model-based and data-driven framework. Model-based FDD for PV panels lacks high fidelity models at low irradiance conditions for detecting incipient faults. To overcome this, a novel irradiance based three diode model (IB3DM) is proposed. It is a nine parameter model that provides higher accuracy even at low irradiance conditions, an important aspect for detecting incipient faults from noise. To exploit PV data, an extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) is used due to its ability to detecting incipient faults. Lack of explainability, feature variability for sample instances, and false alarms are challenges with data-driven FDD methods. These shortcomings are overcome by hybridization of XGBoost and IB3DM, and using eXplainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) techniques. To combine the XGBoost and IB3DM, a fault-signature metric is proposed that helps reducing false alarms and also trigger explanation on detecting incipient faults. To provide explainability, an eXplainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) application is developed. It uses the local interpretable model-agnostic explanations (LIME) framework and provides explanations on classifier outputs for data instance. These explanations help field engineers/technicians for performing troubleshooting and maintenance operations. Smart building integrated microgrid development shows attractive progress in research and application. Related structures of smart building and microgrid growth are more and more complex that requires sophisticated modeling methods. This situation may not simple, nonlinear, and distributed so difficult to obtain a related model analytically. This is an opportunity for researchers to develop a dynamic model from a data-driven modeling perspective. This paper aims to conduct a literature review and application study to map the potential and challenges of developing the Hammerstein and Wiener structure in complex and nonlinear systems modeling, as well as smart building integrated microgrid.

Picking garments with confused examples and hues is a testing assignment for outwardly disabled individuals. Programmed apparel design acknowledgment is additionally a yearning research issue because of pivot, scaling, enlightenment, and particularly extensive intraclass design varieties. This approach is to plan a model that will create an ongoing item advancement for outwardly disabled individuals. Such a system of recognizing clothing patterns automatically having different colors makes their life better and improve their life quality. The designed prototype will cover most of the clothing pattern such as plaid, striped, pattern-less, irregular and also recognize 8 type of colors. The system includes a speaker, a computer, MATLAB tool installed on computer. The output of this system is given by audio signal. The yield of this framework is given by sound flag. The attire designs are perceived to daze clients verbally. Such a framework would support to outwardly hindered individuals and more freedom in their day by day life. © 2018 IEEE.

This paper presents the design of robust tracking and model following (RTMF) controller based on multivariable super-twisting algorithm (MSTA) for a class of uncertain multi-input multi-output (MIMO) linear-time invariant (LTI) systems. The desired behavior of the uncertain plant is achieved by defining a model with ideal response characteristics, and a controller based on MSTA is designed so that the asymptotic convergence of error between the output of the plant and model can be guaranteed. To ensure the good transient response while tracking without overshoot, a model has been developed based on non-overshooting control technique. The robust super-twisting sliding mode controller helps to achieve the desired system performance by following this model response faithfully, rejecting the disturbance with a continuous control. Finally, this strategy has been validated through numerical simulation considering a MIMO quadruple tank process (QTP). The simulated results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed RTMF controller.

Electrocardiograms are generated by electrical signals, and therefore individual electrocardiogram signals can vary according to the measurement environment that is created by the subjects' behavioral characteristics. Generally, post-exercise electrocardiograms that are used as biometric identification data do not match pre-exercise electrocardiograms owing to temporarily occurring tachycardia, and this reduces user identification performance. Research is being conducted on normalization techniques that make the post-exercise electrocardiograms match the pre-exercise electrocardiograms, but there have been problems caused by the distortion of morphological features such as P waves, QRS complexes, and T waves. To address problem, this study looked at the measurements of electrocardiograms before and after exercise and performed linear interpolation normalization on the P and T waves of a post-exercise tachycardia electrocardiogram cycle to make it match the pre-exercise electrocardiogram cycle. This study also proposes a user recognition system based on this technique. To analyze the proposed system's performance, the lead-I electrocardiogram signals of 20 subjects were measured three times at 2- to 3-day intervals before and after exercise, and a database was constructed. The experiment results showed that the conventional algorithm's maximum recognition performance was 88.33%, and the proposed normalization method's performance was 91.67%. A combined method was found to be both excellent and similar to the proposed method, with a performance of 92.5%.

Recent progresses in research and development of directed human protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks have opened a great opportunity for the uncovering of possible effects that a drug has during the drug therapeutic processes. Such PPI networks can be used to help researchers predict cell signaling pathways and gain better understanding about drug healing and targeting mechanisms. This paper aims at examining the use of network theory approach to study and analyze the dynamics and treatment of disease in samples of PPI networks. In this paper's analysis, the so-called disease nodes are defined as nodes that are responsible for the spreading of the considered disease. By combining the concept of network output controllability with an approach for network simplification, this paper shows that the number of controllable disease nodes for a particular disease can be predicted using a relatively simple computational method. Furthermore, the analysis reported in this paper indicates that a positive linear relationship between the number of controllable disease nodes and the relative efficacy of the used drug is statistically significant in term of drug targeting scheme. While the availability of directed human PPI networks is currently remains incomplete, the results reported in this paper can further corroborate the advantages of using concepts and techniques from control theory and network science in the study and research on drug discovery.

To guarantee high precision control and assure the reliability and safety of the railway systems operation, highly accurate measurement data from different onboard and wayside sensors are needed. This paper proposes a solution approach to obtain more accurate measurement data which are collected during train movement using an Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF)-based multi sensors data fusion. Several sensors that are used in the proposed approach include indoor positioning systems, radio frequency identification, and rotary encoder. Experimental results that were conducted on a train model show how the proposed method effectively able to provide more accurate measurement data about the train position.

In a cement plant, the most important and critical part is the rotary kiln which is a large cylinder with a length of about 60-65 meters and a diameter of around 4.5 meters. The kiln is rotated by a powerful electrical motor. The output of kiln is clinker which is in the form of mould like balls. If the output clinker is powdered or in liquid state, then it cannot be used in further processing and will be wasted. In the current scenario, the kiln output is visually observed and the Clinker quality is hourly measured in the Laboratory. In the kiln, raw materials undergo burning around a temperature range of 1200°C to 1400°C. The clinker has to be critically burnt to achieve a desired quality. Excess heating of the raw materials leads to the production of over burnt clinker which is not useful for cement production. Such a situation results in the inefficient operation of kiln by wasting the energy spent for heating the raw materials. This is to be avoided in the cement sintering process. Burning zone temperature directly determines the characteristics of the clinker. Presently, in most of the cement plants, burning zone temperature measurement is obtained using radiation pyrometers. This measurement indicates temperature information about a particular point in the burning zone which is inadequate for the optimized operation and control of the kiln. The work includes the design and development of Image processing-based Temperature estimation System for the burning zone of a Rotary kiln. © 2018 IEEE.

The control strategy used in this paper is multiple sliding surface controller and the disturbance observer is used for estimation of uncertainties and disturbances the advantage of disturbance observer is that it can estimate the state dependent uncertainties and also estimate mismatched disturbances the actuator dynamics considered are second order and this paper shows the effect of second order dynamics on performance of ABS with simulation results and this paper also shows how the second order actuator with slip delay helps to match the simulation results with hardware results.

This paper presents the structure of an auxiliary power unit for railway vehicles to reduce the amount of electrical energy conversion and increase efficiency. An auxiliary power unit is a key device for supplying the various control power for railway vehicles. Isolation is required as this provides the necessary power for the passenger car. Therefore, high-efficiency isolated LLC converter has been mainly applied. However, the LLC converter has poor control performance in response to voltage variation. To overcome this problem, the existing system has been implemented by two power conversion stages of the APU : (stages by installing a non-isolated DC / DC converter, such as buck or boost, at the LLC converter input. The heart of this white paper is the analysis of an LLC converter that accepts a wide range of input voltages by applying PWM control. This can achieve volume reduction. The proposed control strategy is verified by PSIM, which is power conversion simulation analysis programs.
