In India, near about 20% of the total population loses their lives due to interrupted health monitoring system i.e. in most of the hospitals, doctor visits patients either in morning shift or in evening shift or in both shifts. What happens if patient's health becomes critical in between that interval or when a doctor is not available with a patient. The answer is; a patient may lose her\his life. So to avoid this critical situation; we are proposing a smart embedded system device which monitors patients health continuously. This system monitors patients heart rate, body temperature and saline liquid level (if any). If any of the above parameters goes beyond the threshold value, this smart device informs doctors or care taker and ask for corrective actions to save patients life.

Electrical Impedance of biological tissues changes with the change in tissue anatomy and tissue physiology. Electrical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) has been studied to characterize the biological objects like fruits and vegetables for assessing their freshness. In this direction, the EIS studies have been conducted as a nondestructive investigation evaluation method to study the electrical impedance variations in banana ripening. The aim of the work is to correlate the impedance variation with the ripening process in banana. A small amount of alternating current is injected to the banana attached to impedance analyzer board AD 5933. The banana impedance and phase angles are measured from 100 Hz and 12 KHz. The results demonstrate that the electrical impedance of banana varies significantly during its ripening. From the experimental studies, it is observed that the impedance and imaginary part of the impedance are decreased and real part of the impedance was increased with the progresses in the banana ripening process.

In this paper, we perform the performance comparison of image fusion methods from infrared and visible images. Here, we first use intensity-based registration method that image is aligned based on the relative intensity patterns for image registration. We also compare the performances of Sparse Representation (SR)-based and Multiscale Transform (MST)-based image fusion algorithms from OSU color-thermal database. Finally, we evaluate performance index by mutual information and entropy from final fusion images. It was found from the results that the presented image registration and fusion methods showed good performances.

A case study problem of damping oscillations of a pendulum by moving a pivot in vertical direction is presented. The motivation for solving this task comes from a broader research on designing advanced control algorithms for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) carrying a suspended payload. First, a nonlinear model for vertical motion of a quadcopter carrying a payload is derived and simplified to a nonlinear pendulum-like model. The main result is in deriving a nonlinear time-delay control law allowing to predefine a damping factor of the oscillations. Note that the problem at hand cannot be solved by a linear controller, as the oscillatory mode is not controllable once the model is linearised. The control law is then extended from pendulum to the quadcopter model considering an outer loop to control the horizontal motion. The theoretical results are then validated by simulations.

Cadmium doped zinc oxide nanoparticles have been synthesized by chemical combustion of acetates of metals, nitric acid and di/triethanolamine. Thick film screen-printed sensors have been fabricated using the nano-powders. The sensor exhibits fastest response time for detection of methanol in comparison to reported metal oxide alcohol sensors when doped with 2 atomic percent Cadmium at 3000C. The Doped ZnO phases were characterized by XRD, FESEM and EDS. It was found to exist as a hexagonal system in a primitive lattice with average crystallite size of around 25 nm, bandgap of 2.7 eV and grain size less than 100 nm. The sensors were found to be selectively sensitive to 20-300ppm of methanol vapours with a response and recovery times of 4- 9 seconds and 5-10 seconds respectively.

An ACS-fed dual-polarized stubs-loaded frequency reconfigurable printed antenna for multiband operation is presented and designed on FR-4 substrate. The antenna is composed of an inverted U-shaped stub and two asymmetrical L-shaped stubs connected in branched manner with ACS-fed. The antenna provides circular polarization (CP) functionality in the 4.9 GHz public safety WLAN band. The predicated impedance bandwidths of 260 MHz (2.32-2.58 GHz), 640 MHz (3.51-4.15 GHz), 480 MHz (4.94-5.42 GHz) and axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW) of 320 MHz (4.95-5.27 GHz) is achieved for 2.4/5.2 GHz WLAN, 3.5/5.5 GHz WiMAX and 4.9 GHz public safety WLAN applications. By employing three diodes at different locations on stubs and changing states of diodes, frequency reconfiguration functionality is achieved while keeping antenna size 14.70×26.50 mm~2. Gain, axial ratio and radiation pattern for the antenna are analyzed and presented in the paper.

This paper describes an implementation of formal methods for safety verification of a railway interlocking system model based on model checking techniques. In the proposed method, a model for the interlocking system is constructed using timed-arc petri net and the safety specifications are expressed as computation tree logic formulas. These model and specification are then used in TAPAAL model checker to perform the model checking of safety verification task. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the advantages of the proposed verification method.
