This paper considers a closed-loop force tracking system for an active valve lag damper intended for vibration reduction applications in helicopters. The mathematical model of the damper is treated in a simplified form and is the basis for controller design. Due to the inherent nonlinearity of the damper, a controller is constructed using concepts from nonlinear control, namely, nonlinear dynamic inversion (NDI). Tuning methods according to several frequency-domain requirements are introduced and a realistic simulation example demonstrates the effectiveness of the controller.

To optimize the energy consumption during transmission in a secure remote fingerprint authentication system, most approaches have considered a fixed-rate compression of WSQ(Wavelet Scalar Quantization). To balance the energy consumption and the recognition accuracy, however, we need to consider the total energy consumption during compression/encryption/transmission and the quality of the given image. In this paper, we first develop an energy-accuracy prediction model. Then, from the given image, we can evaluate the quality of it. Finally, from the user's minimum requirement of the recognition accuracy, the energy-optimized compression rate under the requirement can be derived adaptively. Based on the experimental result, we show that total energy consumption of the fixed approach can be reduced by 29%.

This paper proposes an efficient PWM switching function for modified H-bridge based multilevel inverter. The prior H-bridge based multilevel inverter can increase the number of output voltage levels by adding switch components and dc input voltage sources. If it employs seven switches and three dc sources, the number of output voltage levels becomes seven. Although its THD characteristics are improved, it needs output filter to meet general output voltage THD requirement, i.e., 5% below. To mitigate this problem, we propose an efficient PWM switching method for the prior H-bridge based multilevel inverter. By adding PWM switching schemes to the operation of the prior H-bridge switches, it can synthesize more sinusoidal waveform. By this simple alteration in the switching scheme, it can improve the output voltage THD requirement. To verify the high performance of the proposed switching scheme, we implemented computer-aided simulations and experiment using a prototype.

This paper presents an LED BLU driving circuit with a local-dimming structure. The efficiency of the proposed LED driver has been improved by parallel driving 8 serial-connected LED arrays. It employed the soft-switching boost converter topology to reduce the switching power loss of the hard switching boost converter. The soft-switching converter reveals superior ripple and efficiency.
