Tumor-educated platelets (TEPs) are circulating blood cells with a distinct tumor-driven phenotype and act as carriers and protectors of metastases. To date, some studies have shown that the TEPs transcriptome can be used for cancer diagnostics. The objective of this study is to propose a procedure based on differential gene expression and differential gene co-expression analyses to identify a set of key genes for multi-class cancer diagnostics. To reach this aim, we analyzed RNA-seq data (57736 genes) of 130 subjects, of whom 40 patients with glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), 35 patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PAAD), and 55 healthy donors (HC). We focused our analysis on the subset of differentially expressed genes (DEGs), and we used these genes to build and analyze the differential co-expression networks, identifying the hub genes. With this procedure, we obtained a restricted set of DEGs that maximize the accuracy in classifying patients according to their conditions (GBM, PAAD, or HC). Indeed, we validated our results by comparing the achieved classification accuracy with that resulting from random selections of DEGs and we obtained that genes selected by differential co-expression (DCE) network analysis have greater predictive power than any other set of differentially expressed genes, including using all of them.

The eBPF technology enables the creation of custom and highly efficient network services, running in the Linux kernel, tailored to the precise use case under consideration. However, the most prominent examples of such network services in eBPF follow a monolithic approach, in which all required code is created within the same program block. This makes the code hard to maintain, to extend, and difficult to reuse in other use cases. This paper leverages the Polycube framework to demonstrate that a disaggregated approach is feasible also with eBPF, with minimal overhead, introducing a larger degree of code reusability. This paper considers a complex network scenario, such as a complete network provider for Kubernetes, presenting the resulting architecture and a preliminary performance evaluation.

The work demonstrates the process of developing a machine learning model for a system for monitoring and controlling the quality of predough at a bakery. This system will provide continuous analysis of the predough parameters, such as temperature, humidity, lifting force and titranic acidity, which will ensure timely detection of deviations in the quality of the predough and avoid production problems. In addition, it will help automate the quality control process and ensure the stability of production processes. Analysis and forecasting of dough parameters will improve the quality of produced bread or other bakery products. Management based also on the predicted values of technological indicators of the predough will allow the enterprise to avoid unnecessary costs of materials and energy and increase economic efficiency. As part of the study, seven machine learning models were created and reviewed, including three linear and four varieties of binary decision trees. An analysis of the best model - a regression decision tree - was carried out, confirming its effectiveness and the validity of the resulting hierarchical structure, in particular, the prediction of important indicators of predough with a high degree of reliability, which indicates its importance in practical applications in production. The created model can be used to monitor and control product quality in real time, allowing operators to quickly identify and correct any deviations in process performance. Also, by analyzing changes in the variables of the predough production process, it is possible to identify precursors of possible production accidents or deviations in product quality, which will allow timely measures to be taken to avoid them.

In the last decades the exponential growth of available information, together with the availability of systems able to learn the knowledge that is present in the data, has pushed towards the complete automation of many decision-making processes in public and private organizations. This circumstance is posing impelling ethical and legal issues since a large number of studies and journalistic investigations showed that software-based decisions, when based on historical data, perpetuate the same prejudices and bias existing in society, resulting in a systematic and inescapable negative impact for individuals from minorities and disadvantaged groups. The problem is so relevant that the terms data bias and algorithm ethics have become familiar not only to researchers, but also to industry leaders and policy makers. In this context, we believe that the ISO SQuaRE standard, if appropriately integrated with risk management concepts and procedures from ISO 31000, can play an important role in democratizing the innovation of software-generated decisions, by making the development of this type of software systems more socially sustainable and in line with the shared values of our societies. More in details, we identified two additional measure for a quality characteristic already present in the standard (completeness) and another that extends it (balance) with the aim of highlighting information gaps or presence of bias in the training data. Those measures serve as risk level indicators to be checked with common fairness measures that indicate the level of polarization of the software classifications/predictions. The adoption of additional features with respect to the standard broadens its scope of application, while maintaining consistency and conformity. The proposed methodology aims to find correlations between quality deficiencies and algorithm decisions, thus allowing to verify and mitigate their impact. © 2021 for this paper by its authors

An overview of the ancillary services in the Nigerian power sector is provided in this work. These services are essential in the power system because they are additional services required by the grid during critical times to enable the power grid to operate in a stable, safe, and reliable manner. The ancillary services provided as stipulated in the Grid Code are black start, frequency control, operating reserves, and voltage control. The System Operator procures the relevant ancillary service depending on the requirement of the grid at a particular time. The paper further presents some ways of improving the viability of ancillary services for the energy grid of Nigeria. These include making incentives more attractive for suppliers of ancillary services, utilizing more hydroelectric power plants for generation and load balancing, integrating distributed generation to provide support to the reactive power, and making necessary investments in the grid. © 2023 IEEE.

Aiming at the uncertainty of the degradation procedure of a complex multi-component system in a time-varying environment and the influence of the random dependence between different components, a remaining useful life prediction model for time-varying adaptive kernel density estimation based on the dependence between multiple components is established. First, the random dependence between multi-component systems is clustered. Considering that different components in the same cluster are affected by the random dependence, the components between different clusters do not affect each other. Judge the dependence characteristics between components, and use the dependence characteristics of different components to conduct clustering degradation modelling. Secondly, the parameters of the system change with time. Considering that monitoring data near the current time has a greater impact on the remaining useful life prediction compared with historical data, data in the vicinity of the current time is accorded a more significant weight, and a time-varying kernel density estimation prediction method is designed, in which the nearest-neighbour adaptive window-width selection method is used. Finally, give an example to demonstrate the effectiveness by the proposed method.

A conceptual ontological model of Digital Crime has been developed, consisting of five non-empty classes. Identification and classification were carried out according to the experience of domestic and foreign experts. The central place of the model is occupied by objects of the Digital Crime class, which have their own attributes and are connected by various links with other objects. Objects of some classes are filled in by users, others are formed by knowledge engineers. Based on the ontological analysis, SWRL-rules are constructed that automatically form links between objects of the custom classes Digital crime and Digital evidence with objects of the Type of crime and Criminal Liability classes. The last class contains articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine on criminal liability for digital crimes. The ontological model is developed taking into account possible requests to it. Such queries can be formed on the basis of direct relationships between human and automatic concepts. And also contain logical chains to concepts that do not contain an explicit link in the ontology. It is assumed that the model can be expanded and supplemented. The ontological model of Digital Crime can be used to share information, develop new systems and applications, improve information retrieval and ensure its accordance.

Advanced feedforward control methods enable mechatronic systems to perform varying motion tasks with extreme accuracy and throughput. The aim of this paper is to develop a data-driven feedforward controller that addresses input nonlinearities, which are common in typical applications such as semiconductor back-end equipment. The developed method consists of parametric inverse-model feedforward that is optimized for tracking error reduction by exploiting ideas from iterative learning control. Results on a simulated set-up indicate improved performance over existing identification methods for systems with nonlinearities at the input.

Currently, the quadcopter Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are playing a significant role in combating the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, which induced the researchers to design robust control techniques. In this paper, a fuzzy PID controller is designed to stabilize and/or track the desired trajectory of the quadcopter UAV. The mathematical model of the quadcopter UAV has been briefly presented, where it has been divided into two portions, the position dynamic and the attitude dynamic subsystems. Subsequently, a robust fuzzy PID controller has been designed for both the inner loop and outer loop to control and stabilize the position and the attitude of the quadcopter, which adaptively manipulate the system's input based on the tracking error. The proposed controller is benchmarked with the conventional PID controller to show the robustness of the fuzzy PID controller. Fuzzy PID controller has been verified through simulation work utilizing Matlab/Simulink, where better performance is achieved compared with the conventional PID controller. It is found that the errors in the quadcopter's attitude and position have been significantly reduced through using fuzzy PID controller by 70% and 87%, respectively. © 2021 IEEE.

The framework of feedback graphs is a generalization of sequential decisionmaking with bandit or full information feedback. In this work, we study an extension where the directed feedback graph is stochastic, following a distribution similar to the classical Erdős-Rényi model. Specifically, in each round every edge in the graph is either realized or not with a distinct probability for each edge. We prove nearly optimal regret bounds of order $\min\bigl\{\min_{\varepsilon} \sqrt{(\alpha_\varepsilon/\varepsilon) T},\, \min_{\varepsilon} (\delta_\varepsilon/\varepsilon)^{1/3} T^{2/3}\bigr\}$ (ignoring logarithmic factors), where αε and δε are graph-theoretic quantities measured on the support of the stochastic feedback graph G with edge probabilities thresh-olded at ε. Our result, which holds without any preliminary knowledge about G, requires the learner to observe only the realized out-neighborhood of the chosen action. When the learner is allowed to observe the realization of the entire graph (but only the losses in the out-neighborhood of the chosen action), we derive a more efficient algorithm featuring a dependence on weighted versions of the independence and weak domination numbers that exhibits improved bounds for some special cases.
