Large-scale variable pitch wind turbine generator (WTG) system usually uses the PID controller to maintain the output power unchanged above the rated wind speed. Because WTG has the characteristic of inertia and delay and the wind speed varies randomly, the simple feedback control method such as PID controller can hardly achieve satisfactory performance. This paper firstly analyzes the shortcomings of PID controller, and then a new pitch control method combined with nonlinear feed forward controller and PID controller is proposed. At high wind speed range, there is nonlinear relationship between pitch angle and wind speed due to the aerodynamic characteristic of the rotor. This paper obtains this relationship with numerical calculation and least square polynomial fit method. Then the nonlinear model is used to design the feed forward controller. Its input is wind speed and the output is the increasing feed forward reference pitch angle. The feed forward controller has achieved the dynamic feed forward compensation and improved the rapidness of control system. With the simulation of a 300kW wind turbine generator at different wind speed, the new pitch control strategy can effectively reduce system's overshoot and regulation time, and has a satisfactory control performance. © 2010 IEEE.

To avoid falling into local optimum solution and improve global optimum efficiency and accuracy of particle swarm optimization, a novel particle swarm optimization model with centroid of population is proposed, which can enhance inter-particle cooperation and information sharing capabilities effectively, then the guidelines of parameter selection are obtained in the case of convergence of the new model. Simulation results of Benchmark functions are also analyzed in detail, and show the new algorithm is more feasible and efficient then standard particle swarm optimization method. © 2010 IEEE.

Proactive principle can be used not only in large distributed solution for medical centers, but it can be found usable in a many other solutions. One of them we found in an application to allow for people have a happy wake up. A mobile device application was developed to solve a problem of bad wake up at morning for all the people. Sleep is a complex process regulated with our brain and as such is driven by 24 hour biological rhythm. Our biological clocks are controlled by chemical substances that are mostly known to us. wakeNsmile application is developed to react on users declared request in form of happy wake up at predefined time (Fig. 1). The time defined for alarm is however the latest possible time to wake up of user. We are trying to detect a body state in which the user is most able to wake up with a smile. Time period for detection analysis of state phases is declared to 30 minutes. A Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT) and some other sophisticated methods are used for it. © 2010 IEEE.

In the application of PLC(Programmable Logic controller), ladder diagram is visual and easy to control by engineering staff, besides, instruction list is easily convert into assembly language program, so they are favored by technicians, so that the research of interconversion between ladder diagram and instruction list become a key technique in development of PLC. The conversion algorithm in present is maps ladder diagram to AOV graph, then it realizes the interconversion between ladder diagram and instruction list by sorting AOV graph, but efficient of the algorithm is lower. A new algorithm about interconversion between ladder diagram and instruction list based on forest and binary tree is presented in this paper by the research and analysis of ladder diagram's language and instruction list on PLC. At first it maps ladder diagram to forest, and then it establishes a binary tree to represent ladder diagram logical relationship with forest. At last it realizes the exchange of PLC ladder diagram and instruction list by traversing binary tree. The algorithm is simple and rapid, its correctness and feasibility are verified in programming software platform of PLC. ©2010 IEEE.

According to the intelligent behavior of social population, a novel particle swarm optimization algorithm based on predatory search strategy (PS-CPSO) is proposed by introducing the centroid of particle swarm in the standard particle swarm optimization model to improve global optimum efficiency and accuracy of algorithm. Results of Benchmark function simulation and material balance computation (MBC) in alumina production show that the new method not only improves the local searching efficiency and global searching performance greatly, but also has faster convergence speed and higher precision, and can avoid the premature convergence problem effectively. ©2010 IEEE.

Based on standard particle swarm optimization, the centroid of particle swarm is introduced in particle swarm optimization to enhance inter-particle cooperation and information sharing capabilities, then combining with ergodicity of the chaotic motion and fast convergence of the simplex algorithm, an improved hybrid particle swarm cooperative optimization algorithm is proposed to improve global optimum efficiency and accuracy of particle swarm optimization algorithm. Simulation results of Benchmark functions show the new algorithm improves the local searching efficiency and global searching performance effectively, and has faster convergence speed and higher precision. © 2010 IEEE.

Current on-line wave-net learning algorithm adapts the primary identified process model with the new changes in time varying processes without a consideration of abnormal situations in the process operation. Therefore, if a disturbance occurs and makes changes in the process, current on-line learning updates the primary model to an unsuitable model. This paper proposes a procedure that first determines normal variations of time-varying processes from abnormal variations incorporating an adaptive dynamic principal component analysis (Adaptive DPCA) and updates the model only based on normal variations. A double continuously stirred tank reactors (CSTR) case study is invoked to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The results show the effectiveness of the method. ©2010 IEEE.

Various wireless communication systems in a shared frequency band such as 2.4GHz ISM band are operating. This causes the mutual interference among the wireless communication systems, and makes worse the performance of each of them. They should use more energy to achieve the desired quality of service. Many studies have been carried out to solve the mutual interference problem, called the coexistence problem. In this paper, we quantitatively analyze the effect of the mutual interference between Wi-Fi and WiMAX systems, and propose a method to solve the problem and evaluate its performance by simulation. © 2010 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Recently, the use of security surveillance system including CCTV is increasing due to the increase of terrors and crimes. However as the data recorded through the video surveillance system is exposed, the invasion of privacy is raised. The research on the technology of protecting privacy from the surveillance system in addition to these organizations is actively carried out. At this time, to distinguish the human of privacy protection, the identification technique is necessary. For identification, the proposed system uses soft-biometrics such as color and height information based on smartcard. It can obtain reliable feature information using smartcard. In this paper, representative colors are extracted by applying octree-based color quantization technique to the clothing region and height is extracted from the geometrical information of the images. The identification is accomplished by comparing the similarities between two data based on Euclidean distance. Through identification by using multiple information rather than single information, the proposed system demonstrates the possibility of human identification under the surveillance camera environment. © 2010 IEEE.

Traffic congestion is ubiquitous in the modern city, and optimizing the behavior of traffic lights for efficient traffic flow is a critically important goal. In this paper, an urban road traffic area-wide coordination control algorithm based on Approximation Dynamic Programming is proposed. The agent model of traffic intersections is demonstrated. The algorithm substantially reduces average vehicular delay by using an approximation to the value function of the dynamic programming to update the approximation, and can cooperative control of multiple intersections to achieve a near optimal control policy. The computer simulation results show that the control algorithm can effectively reduce the average delay time and play a very good control effect with multi-intersections, so the coordination method used in this paper is effective. ©2010 IEEE.
