The aim of the study was to validate a methodology for professional pilots’ neurophysiological assessment to improve training program tailoring and management. In particular, the assessment focused on quantifying (i) mental workload, (ii) stress level (iii) and the cooperation degree between the two members of the crews. Two groups of pilots were involved in the experiments: Experienced and Unexperienced. Additionally, the Instructor was responsible to provide subjective evaluation about the pilots’ mental states and cooperation. During the entire flight simulations, the pilots’ brain activity was acquired through the Electroencephalography (EEG). The results demonstrated that it is possible to quantify operators’ mental states and degree of cooperation while dealing with flight simulations under realistic settings. Pilots’ mental workload and stress behavioral levels resulted to be positively and significantly correlated with the corresponding neurophysiological measurements (all R > 0.6, all p < 0.05), while cooperation was observed to be higher (p < 0.05) for the Experienced than the Unexperienced. Although the results are preliminary, they show how the capability of quantifying pilots’ mental states and cooperation while dealing with tasks will provide the instructors with additional and objective information. In particular, this information would allow for tailoring the training sessions based on crew’s behavior.

In classical works on a planar differential pursuit-evasion game with a faster pursuer, the intercept point resulting from the equilibrium strategies lies on the Apollonius circle. This property was exploited for the construction of the equilibrium strategies for two faster pursuers against one evader. Extensions for planar multiple-pursuer single-evader scenarios have been considered. We study a pursuit-evasion game on a sphere and the relation of the equilibrium intercept point to the Apollonius domain on the sphere. The domain is a generalization of the planar Apollonius circle set. We find a condition resulting in the intercept point belonging to the Apollonius domain, which is the characteristic of the planar game solution. Behavioural Cloning is a Machine Learning method concerning how a machine attempts to autonomously mimic the actions of a human, or in general a complex controller, performing a given task. This work innovatively exploits Behavioural Cloning in support of Pediatric Neurorehabilitation. In particular, an Artificial Neural Network Classifier has been implemented to autonomously adapt the difficulty, through a set of tunable parameters, of a Serious Game that was specifically developed to stimulate some relevant cognitive capabilities of the patient. Data augmentation via Behavioural Cloning allows such autonomous difficulty adaptation system to improve its classification performances and, thus, to enforce a control logic that, in turn, improves the effectiveness of the cognitive training. The system is validated through an experimental assessment on a Serious Game that trains motor coordination: experimental results of children gameplay are analyzed and discussed.

the paper demonstrates the process of developing mathematical models for identifying breakdowns of electric motors using machine learning methods. The authors have developed three mathematical models for identifying breakdowns of electric drives with a power of 55 kW, 1500 rpm on the example of sugar production: model for quadratic discriminant analysis; binary classification decision tree; feed-forward neural network model. The best structures and parameters of the models were determined by machine learning methods. The performance of the models on the training and test sets was more than 96% by F-score. It was proposed to use all three models independently for diagnosing breakdowns of electric drives, while the decision maker makes the final decision on the replacement or repair of electrical equipment. This approach is justified and effective because of the diversity of models. The developed models, except for assessing the state of the engine, can also be used for simulation modelling, forecasting, and serve as information support for process operators in organizing equipment maintenance. The availability of real-time information about the state of equipment in production will allow timely repair or replacement of equipment, thereby reducing the risks of stopping production and increasing the resource efficiency of technological processes.

IICPilot: An Intelligent Integrated Circuit Backend Design Framework Using Open EDA

Open-source EDA tools are rapidly advancing, fostering collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing within the EDA community. However, the growing complexity of these tools, characterized by numerous design parameters and heuristics, poses a significant barrier to their widespread adoption. This complexity is particularly pronounced in integrated circuit (IC) backend designs, which place substantial demands on engineers’ expertise in EDA tools. To tackle this challenge, we introduce IICPilot, an intelligent IC backend design system based on LLM technology. IICPilot automates various backend design procedures, including script generation, EDA tool invocation, design space exploration of EDA parameters, container-based computing resource allocation, and exception management. By automating these tasks, IICPilot significantly lowers the barrier to entry for open-source EDA tools. Specifically, IICPilot utilizes LangChain’s multi-agent framework to efficiently handle distinct design tasks, enabling flexible enhancements independently. Moreover, IICPilot separates the backend design workflow from specific open-source EDA tools through a unified EDA calling interface. This approach allows seamless integration with different open-source EDA tools like OpenROAD and iEDA, streamlining the backend design and optimization across the EDA tools. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

Cancer is a widespread global health problem, claiming millions of lives each year, and skin cancer represents a significant threat as it is one of the most common types. Early tumor detection via medical imaging is critical for effective treatment. Leveraging artificial intelligence, particularly novel models like Transformers, presents promising avenues for improved diagnosis. This paper explores the efficacy of a Collective Intelligence approach using AI in classifying cancerous and non-cancerous tumors, aiming to reduce classification errors and support clinical decision-making. We created five different configurations using various datasets to compare the results. The results show solid performance for the CI in the evaluated tasks, reaching up to 75.89% accuracy. The lack of images in certain classes significantly contributes to overfitting. It is suggested to explore data expansion strategies and improve consistency in image capture for future work.

DROPO: Sim-to-Real Transfer with Offline Domain Randomization

In recent years, domain randomization over dynamics parameters has gained a lot of traction as a method for sim-to-real transfer of reinforcement learning policies in robotic manipulation;however, finding optimal randomization distributions can be difficult. In this paper, we introduce DROPO, a novel method for estimating domain randomization distributions for safe sim-to-real transfer. Unlike prior work, DROPO only requires a limited, precollected offline dataset of trajectories, and explicitly models parameter uncertainty to match real data using a likelihood-based approach. We demonstrate that DROPO is capable of recovering dynamic parameter distributions in simulation and finding a distribution capable of compensating for an unmodeled phenomenon. We also evaluate the method in two zero-shot sim-to-real transfer scenarios, showing successful domain transfer and improved performance over prior methods. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. This paper presents a study for optimizing a hot rolling mill. The paper is devoted to the study of ways to reduce the effect of shock loads of synchronous electric drives of the roughing mill group on the relative lengthening of the metal strip in the inter-stand gap of the rolling stands of the finishing mill group. The elasticity of the metal strip in the inter-stand gap of the rolling mill has a significant impact on the movement of intercoupled multi-motor electric drives of the finishing mill group. Another crucial route of exposure that influences the motion of the electric drives within the finishing mill group involves the electromagnetic connection between the drives in the roughing and finishing mill groups. The impact of the electromagnetically connected circuits is evident through the effect of shock loads from synchronous electric drives on the angular velocity of the direct current electric drives within the finishing mill group. The characteristics of the electromagnetic communication circuit are established by the power grid arrangement and equipment specifications. To assess the quality of work of electric drives of the finishing mill group, it is proposed to use the relative lengthening of the metal strip in the inter-stand gap, which is an important indirect indicator of the quality of rolling. The mathematical model of a hot rolling mill that takes into account both the elasticity of the metal strip that connects the DC electric drives of the finishing group, and the electromagnetic coupling circuit that takes into account the impact loads of synchronous electric drives of the roughing group on the example of the mill 1700 of ArcelorMittal Temirtau JSC was proposed in this paper. There can be none. In this paper, we address the problem of a set of discrete-time networked agents reaching average consensus privately and resiliently in the presence of a subset of attacked agents. Existing approaches to the problem rely on trade-offs between accuracy, privacy, and resilience, sacrificing one for the others. We show that a separation-like principle for privacy-preserving and resilient discrete-time average consensus is possible. Specifically, we propose a scheme that combines strategies from resilient average consensus and private average consensus, which yields both desired properties. The proposed scheme has polynomial time-complexity on the number of agents and the maximum number of attacked agents. In other words, each agent that is not under attack is able to detect and discard the values of the attacked agents, reaching the average consensus of non-attacked agents while keeping each agent's initial state private. Finally, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method with numerical results.

The transition to vehicle electrification introduces new demands on chassis dynamics, paving the way for advances in driving dynamics, safety, and efficiency. A key consideration arises: how are driving torque impulses converted in electric vehicles with multiple power sources? This study introduces a novel approach to address these demands through the integration of state-of-the-art yaw control, using concurrent front/rear axle and front right/front left torque distribution based on the wheel speed balance control concept. Our aim is not necessarily to demonstrate the supremacy of our approach, but rather to present a fresh philosophical perspective on the problem of yaw control in electric vehicles. Our method embodies dynamic load transfer and axle dynamics into the yaw control problem formulation, setting it apart from current methodologies. Through experimental results, we illustrate the effectiveness of our proposed approach regardless of road surface conditions.
