Method of Classifying Motor Failure Conditions Using an Auto-Encoder-Based Ensemble Technique

In the field, unsupervised learning-based fault diagnosis is necessary due to the lack of fault data. However, conventional auto-encoder models face challenges in fault classification. To address this issue, this study proposes an unsupervised learning-based auto-encoder model enhanced with an ensemble approach. The proposed model performs fault classification using gear, bearing, and eccentricity fault data, and employs the Layer-wise Relevance Propagation (LRP) technique to improve fault classification. Through the LRP technique, the key frequency bands relevant to each fault are identified and incorporated into the learning process, allowing for frequency band-based training. As a result, the proposed auto-encoder model improves classification performance and effectively distinguishes between different types of faults. © The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers.

A hysteresis motor is a motor characterized by an increase in the efficiency of the output to input ratio during an over-excitation in which a higher voltage is applied at startup than when the rated voltage is applied, and the voltage is reduced over a period of time after entering synchronous speed. However, due to the specificity of the rotor material, finite element analysis of hysteresis motors is difficult, so the design was conducted by analyzing only the rated voltage application condition through an equivalent circuit. As a result, the improved efficiency and torque that can be achieved by over-excitation were not verified, which was confirmed by experiments after the design was completed. However, recently, finite element analysis simulation that can express the hysteresis loop behavior has become possible, so finite element analysis of hysteresis motors has become possible, and the improved efficiency and torque that can be obtained through over-excitation can be confirmed. Therefore, this paper compares the output and efficiency of hysteresis motors under over-excitation and rated voltage application, and confirms the necessity and feasibility of designing hysteresis motors considering over-excitation. As the number of electric vehicles grows, the development of fast chargers is advancing rapidly. A DC-DC converter that can deliver high output power, a fixed input voltage, and a wide output voltage range is critical for electric vehicle fast chargers. While the LLC resonant converter is commonly used in these converters, it requires a low magnetizing inductance, which increases the transformer air gap, causing additional AC losses in the windings due to the fringing effect. To mitigate these issues, this study explores design solutions in LLC resonant converters. By using two transformers per module, with the primary sides connected in series and the secondary sides in parallel, the number of primary turns can be reduced, minimizing the air gap. This reduction also allows for structural changes in the windings, improving heat dissipation. Magnetic field analysis and circuit simulations were conducted to validate the proposed DC-DC converter design. Copyright © The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers.

To simultaneously optimize multiple performances of the cooperative adaptive cruise control (CACC) system, a fuzzy MPC control strategy is proposed to achieve multi-objective cooperative control for electric vehicle platoons. The longitudinal kinematic analysis of the vehicle platoon is conducted to establish the platoon model. Based on the analysis of system performance, safety, comfort, and following performance are selected as the system's performance indexes, and a comprehensive performance function for the MPC is constructed. Fuzzy control theory is employed to optimize the weight parameters, enabling the CACC system to adapt to different conditions. The effectiveness and reliability of the fuzzy MPC control strategy are verified through co-simulation using Carsim and Simulink. © 2025 IEEE.

Fetal health involves monitoring the well-being of the unborn baby, identifying potential complications such as distress, congenital issues and ensuring timely interventions for a healthy pregnancy and successful delivery. This study presents a machine learning framework aimed at improving fetal health predictions with a focus on the need for early detection of complications like fetal distress. Traditional monitoring tools such as cardiotocography and ultrasound, often rely on subjective interpretation, leading to delays or inaccuracies in diagnoses. To tackle these issues, advanced machine learning techniques such as XGBoost, Blending, and Stacking are applied. These models are assessed for their ability to handle complex fetal health data and improve classification accuracy. While Random Forest and K-Nearest Neighbors show moderate success, XGBoost, Blending, and Stacking perform better, achieving 96% accuracy, reducing errors and enhancing clinical decision-making. For small datasets and generalization issues and using multiple fetal health indicators for stronger predictions. Automated machine learning models offer significant improvements in the speed and precision of fetal health assessments, helping reduce risks for both mother, child and advancing AI applications in prenatal care for improved outcomes. © 2025 IEEE.

The increasing use of information Technology (IT) in all areas of life, followed by increasing cybersecurity threats on the user side, makes cybersecurity awareness among users an obligation that must be met. Several solutions currently available (guides, discussion forums, workshops) have not been able to provide good results and are lacking in terms of user engagement, adaptability, and optimizing available resources, so technology-based learning is needed, especially AI. This paper introduces the design and prototype of an AI-based learning system, especially with the Naive Retrieval-Augmented Generation (Naive RAG) method with three steps, including Retrieval, Augmented, and Generation. The system combines contextual user questions and answers with internal and domain knowledge systems to explain cybersecurity awareness to users dynamically and personally. The prototype that has been developed is then tested using the Black Box Testing method to evaluate functionality and usability. The test results show that the functionality of the system built has run well with a percentage of success of 100%, so it can be used as a technologybased learning medium for education and learning of user security awareness. © 2025 IEEE.

Despite significant advancements in remote sensing multimodal learning, particularly in image-image feature fusion, the exploration of audio-image feature fusion remains insufficient. Given the complexity and redundancy of ground objects in remote sensing images, accurately aligning audio features with image features during the fusion process is a critical challenge. In this paper, we introduce an object-centric feature fusion method named SlotFusion. By employing a slot attention-based feature decoupling module and a slot-based audiovisual feature fusion module, we transform modality features with complex semantic information into a set of slot features corresponding to object units and use gated activation units to adaptively implement object-centric feature fusion. Experiments on the Audio Visual Aerial Scene Recognition dataset (ADVANCE) demonstrate that the proposed SlotFusion significantly improves remote sensing scene recognition performance, with a 7.04% increase in overall accuracy compared to previous methods, achieving state-of-the-art results. © 2025 IEEE.

Securing Mobile Robotic Networks Against Replacement Attack

The security of mobile robotic networks (MRNs) has been an active research topic in recent years. This paper aims to secure the ubiquitous formation control of MRNs against the replacement attack, where an external robot can replace a formation robot by compromising the communication and physically interfering with the victim simultaneously. To counter this advanced attack, the novel idea of this work is to leverage the physical proximity of the formation shape and the interaction topology among robots for defense design. First, from the physical proximity perspective, we propose the convex neighbor polygon (CNP) to capture the geometric characteristic of the formation robots, and design a CNP-based security mechanism for the robots during the replacement attack. Then, from the interaction perspective, we introduce the indirect controllability to characterize the possibility that the attacker leverages the interaction between robots to deactivate the CNP mechanism, and establish the conditions regarding the topology structure and the attack input to counter the replacement. Finally, based on the obtained conditions, we demonstrate how to design the initiatory topology among the formation robots to enhance the defense performance. Comparative simulations verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Distributed Identification With Input Design for Network systems

The distributed identification of network systems under local observation has recently become one of the research hot spots. Due to the unobservable influence of other subsystems and the noise, it is difficult for local subsystems to achieve convergent identification under local observations. This paper proposes a distributed identification algorithm for local subsystems to identify their parameter matrices under local observation with a guarantee of convergence. We obtain the necessary and sufficient conditions for the convergence of local identification. We prove that by injecting an independent random signal to the local subsystem, which is easy to implement, using a simple least-squares method to identify local systems can achieve convergent identification for a certain probability. Meanwhile, we give the minimal level of variance of the injected signal that can still guarantee the convergence of the identification. Next, we add the designed input as a vector of Gaussian noises with decreasing variance to a known controller, proving that it can converge to the original controller. Simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms. © 2025 IEEE.
