Ferroelectric materials have been gaining much interest over the last decades due to the unique operational characteristics they demonstrate, when a dc electric field is applied. This paper investigates the scattering analysis of electromagnetic waves from materials with high permittivity that follows a linear spatial variation along one axis. The Surface Integral Equation (SIE) and Volume Integral Equation (VIE) methods are invoked to compute the currents and the radar cross section (RCS). The number of unknowns for the VIE is, as expected, larger than for the SIE method. The RCS and the induced current are associated in such a way that one can approximate the linear variation with relatively few elements (unknowns).

The emergence of cloud computing technology has motivated a very high number of users in different organizations to access its services in running and delivering their various operations and services. However, this surge of cloud users has led to the problem of uneven load sharing among the cloud computing infrastructures. As a result, federated cloud infrastructure was initiated to provide more cloud computing resources to accommodate more cloud users' requests and also to provide equal requests mapping with the available cloud resources. Nevertheless, the issue of unequal allocation of requests within the datacenter(s) that makes up the federated cloud environment still persists. This research work presents an intra-datacenter load balancing algorithm in a federated cloud environment named;the intra-balancer adapted throttled algorithm to evenly distribute requests in each datacenter that formulate the federated cloud infrastructures. The simulation of the intra-balancer was carried out in CloudAnalyst, the results of the implementation showed that the intra-balancer outperformed the Round-Robin and ESCE with 98.93ms and 2.26ms for the response and processing time respectively. The results assert that the intra-balancer algorithm provides a better load balancing solution in a federated cloud environment. © 2024 IEEE.

A first-hand, low-profile, two-port planar inverted-F antenna is proposed for current 4G/5G sub-3 GHz hand-portable multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) applications. The design features a profile of about 5 mm and dual-coplanar feeds, which are isolated using only a modified top plate, while the shared ground plane is not perturbed as in previous designs. An open-edge slot on the top of the PIFA provides a 3λ/4 current path. The proposed antenna covers approximately a 15% impedance bandwidth fraction in the range of 2.45-2.85 GHz. The simulated results, including scattering parameters, far-field radiation patterns, and the envelope correlation coefficient, all exhibit excellent features.

This paper presents a modeling methodology devoted to the performance evaluation of parallel architectures. The methodology is based on the decomposition of the modeling process into seven stages. In each stage specific techniques, appropriate to parallel architectures, are applied, such as aggregation methods, a thorough distinction between the architecture model and the application program model, the constitution of program classes using data analysis techniques. The methodology is then illustrated through a case study, the loosely Coupled Array of Processors (lCAP) system, designed at IBM Kingston. Use of the lCAP model allows to predict the performance of the lCAP system, in terms of response time, resource utilization, waiting times, and to investigate many alternatives with regard to the system configuration (e. g. number of system components, component interconnection scheme, component characteristics), or to the parallel program structure (e. g. parallel task granularity, load imbalance).

Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) with power-domain user multiplexing has been considered as one of the potential candidates of the fifth-Generation (5G) systems. In this paper, a two-stage user selection algorithm is proposed based on proportional fairness for downlink NOMA with zero-forcing beamforming (PF-NOMA-ZFBF) in order to improve the throughput-fairness trade-off for NOMA system. We focus on short term fairness, where short term refers to the minimum time window in which a specified fairness is guaranteed and evaluated using Jain's index. A transmit power allocation then applied to enhance the throughput of NOMA system. Simulation results show that the proposed PF-NOMA-ZFBF significantly improves user fairness index with at least 38.96% over conventional NOMA-ZFBF while maintaining the total system sum-rate (near maximum).

The aviation community is currently working on the standardization of data communication systems for the future air traffic management. In this context, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has initiated a work on standardization of an IPv6-based aeronautical telecommunications network and on future radio access technologies, respectively. In this paper, we integrate L-Band Digital Aeronautical communications System Option 1 (L-DACS 1), which is one candidate for future radio access technologies, with realistic IPv6-based network layer functionality and analyze Deficit Round Robin (DRR) with fragmentation algorithm for the forward and return link in L-DACS 1. Our analysis mainly covers two application domains: file transfer and real-time services. We show that DRR with fragmentation scheduler provides good performance results in terms of throughput, delay, and bandwidth fairness.

Nowadays, wireless sensor networks (WSN) are widely used for various Internet of Things applications. The sensor nodes are usually deployed randomly in the field. Thus, searching for node coordinates is one of the requirements to construct the network structure. With knowing distances between nodes and the coordinates of anchor nodes in a certain network fragment, we propose a method based on the multidimensional scaling for searching for desired node coordinates.

Active self-paced learning for cost-effective and progressive face identification

This paper aims to develop a novel cost-effective framework for face identification, which progressively maintains a batch of classifiers with the increasing face images of different individuals. By naturally combining two recently rising techniques: active learning (AL) and self-paced learning (SPL), our framework is capable of automatically annotating new instances and incorporating them into training under weak expert recertification. We first initialize the classifier using a few annotated samples for each individual, and extract image features using the convolutional neural nets. Then, a number of candidates are selected from the unannotated samples for classifier updating, in which we apply the current classifiers ranking the samples by the prediction confidence. In particular, our approach utilizes the high-confidence and low-confidence samples in the self-paced and the active user-query way, respectively. The neural nets are later fine-tuned based on the updated classifiers. Such heuristic implementation is formulated as solving a concise active SPL optimization problem, which also advances the SPL development by supplementing a rational dynamic curriculum constraint. The new model finely accords with the "instructor-student-collaborative" learning mode in human education. The advantages of this proposed framework are two-folds: i) The required number of annotated samples is significantly decreased while the comparable performance is guaranteed. A dramatic reduction of user effort is also achieved over other state-of-the-art active learning techniques. ii) The mixture of SPL and AL effectively improves not only the classifier accuracy compared to existing AL/SPL methods but also the robustness against noisy data. We evaluate our framework on two challenging datasets, which include hundreds of persons under diverse conditions, and demonstrate very promising results.
