Disguised face identification is challenging since people cover their identities by wearing masks, hats, sunglasses, or other disguises. These disguises dramatically modify face features, making identifying individuals a difficult task. In this study, we introduce StealthFace, an ensemble model that utilizes transfer learning and skin-segmented images to improve the recognition of disguised faces. To improve the accuracy and resilience of disguised face recognition, StealthFace leverages the power of deep learning algorithms, transfer learning, and ensemble methods. The framework employs pre-trained convolutional neural network models, such as ResNet50 and DenseNet121 for feature extraction and to learn discriminative features that are important in identifying individuals despite the disguises. The ensemble approach combines models’ predictions, utilizing their collective expertise and capturing multiple perspectives on disguised faces. Our ensemble model outperforms other state-of-the-art methods with an overall accuracy of 99.24% and contributes to enhancing security measures and advancing the development of face recognition systems. © (2025), (International Association of Engineers). Digital pathology employing Whole Slide Images (WSIs) plays a pivotal role in cancer detection. Nevertheless, the manual examination of WSIs for the identification of various tissue regions presents formidable challenges due to its labor-intensive nature and subjective interpretation. Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) based semantic segmentation algorithms have emerged as valuable tools for assisting in this task by automating ROI delineation. The incorporation of attention modules and carefully designed loss functions has shown promise in further augmenting the performance of these algorithms. However, there exists a notable gap in research regarding the utilization of attention modules specifically for tissue segmentation, thereby constraining our comprehension and application of these modules in this context. This study introduces ETiSeg-Net (Edge-aware self attention to enhance Tissue Segmentation), a CNN-based semantic segmentation model that uses a novel edge-based attention module to achieve effective delineation of class boundaries. In addition, an innovative iterative training strategy is devised to efficiently optimize the model parameters. The study also conducts a comprehensive investigation into the impact of attention modules and loss functions on the efficacy of semantic segmentation models. Qualitative and quantitative evaluations of these semantic segmentation models are conducted using publicly available datasets. The findings underscore the potential of attention modules in enhancing the accuracy and effectiveness of tissue semantic segmentation. © The Author(s) 2024.

Lay summarization aims to generate summaries of technical articles for non-experts, enabling easy comprehension for a general audience. The technical language used in research often hinders effective communication of scientific knowledge, making it difficult for non-experts to understand. Automatic lay summarization can enhance access to scientific literature, promoting interdisciplinary knowledge sharing and public understanding. This has become especially important for biomedical articles, given the current global need for clear medical information. Large Language Models (LLMs) (Yao et al., 2024), with their remarkable language understanding capabilities, are ideal for abstractive summarization, helping to make complex information accessible to the public. This paper details our submissions to the BioLaySumm 2024 Shared Task: Lay Summarization of Biomedical Research Articles (Goldsack et al., 2024). We fine-tune and evaluate sequence-to-sequence models like T5 across various training dataset settings and optimization methods such as LoRA (Hu et al., 2021b) for lay summarization. The banking system is a key component of financial transactions and economic expansion in the modern world. The introduction of internet banking, however, has created some brand-new difficulties, particularly in providing safe user authentication. This study investigates the flaws in conventional authentication techniques, including passwords and SMS-based One-Time Passwords (OTP), and suggests a creative fix. By using Time-Based One-Time Password (TOTP) created by an authenticator app and encrypting the user credentials with this as key, the proposed solution improves security. By addressing problems including poor password habits, SMS theft, OTP delivery delays, phishing, and social engineering attacks, this method strengthens the security of online banking. The approach provides a thorough framework for building this secure authentication system by detailing TOTP generation and encryption. This system successfully defends against popular attacks such as replay attacks, brute force attacks, rainbow tables, packet sniffing, and random guessing. © 2024 IEEE.

With its vast population and extensive healthcare requirements, India is moving toward digitalizing its health records. Safeguarding Electronic Health Records (EHRs) is crucial given the increase in security breaches and attacks, with India’s healthcare sector at the forefront. This study provides an overview of EHR security in India by exploring the EHR adoption rate in India and the barriers to its use. It focuses on the significant security challenges they bring, and the initiatives currently being implemented in India, such as the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) and the recently released National Accreditation Board for Hospitals (NABH) Digital Health Standards. Integrating Blockchain in current EHR systems to resolve the observed challenges is then explored. The findings of this study show the urgency of integrating emerging technologies such as blockchain which have the potential for patient-controlled data sharing and data immutability possibly within the framework of the ABDM. This study aims to serve as a valuable resource for healthcare professionals, researchers and other regions seeking to understand and improve EHR security. © 2025 the Author(s).

This paper describes our approach to submissions made at Shared Task 2 at BLP Workshop - Sentiment Analysis of Bangla Social Media Posts(Hasan et al., 2023a;Islam et al., 2021;Hasan et al., 2023b). Sentiment Analysis is an action research area in the digital age. With the rapid and constant growth of online social media sites and services and the increasing amount of textual data, the application of automatic Sentiment Analysis is on the rise. However, most of the research in this domain is based on the English language. Despite being the world’s sixth most widely spoken language, little work has been done in Bangla. This task aims to promote work on Bangla Sentiment Analysis while identifying the polarity of social media content by determining whether the sentiment expressed in the text is Positive, Negative, or Neutral. Our approach consists of experimenting and finetuning various multilingual and pre-trained BERT-based models on our downstream tasks and using a Majority Voting and Weighted ensemble model that outperforms individual baseline model scores. Our system scored 0.711 for the multiclass classification task and scored 10th place among the participants on the leaderboard for the shared task. The research addresses the critical issue of detecting anomalies in autonomous in-vehicle network communication, focusing on the vulnerability of infotainment systems to denial-of-service attacks. The aim is to explore and compare traditional Machine Learning (ML) and advanced Deep Learning (DL) models for the detection of DoS attacks within Controller Area Network (CAN) communications. By evaluating the performance of various ML and DL algorithms, including Decision Tree, Logistic Regression, RandomForest, Feed Forward Neural Networks, and LSTM architectures, the study aims to enhance intrusion detection capabilities in vehicular communication systems. The significance of the research lies in identifying the advantages of DL methods in capturing complex patterns and temporal dependencies within the CAN network, thus contributing to fortifying the security of automotive networks against evolving threats. The results demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed models in detecting and mitigating DoS attacks, with DL methods showing promise in automatic learning and adaptability to intricate network structures. This study provides valuable insights for future research endeavors aimed at enhancing the cybersecurity of autonomous vehicles. © 2024 IEEE.

In recent years, photography-based photometry has gained popularity and is being implemented widely. Under this approach, a camera is used as a sensor to estimate photometric quantities like illuminance or luminance. The absolute distance between the target surface and the camera can be crucial for photometric analysis. The technique proposed in this article employs a fixed focal length lens mounted on a DSLR camera. The standardised classic ColorChecker chart is placed over the target surface, and the scene image with the chart is captured. The intuition is that the average pixel area of the swatches present on the chart decreases as the camera is moved away from the chart. OpenCV libraries are used to calculate the average pixel area of the chart color swatches. Distance is measured using an industry-standard laser-based distance measurement tool. Curve fitting is used to establish a mathematical relationship between camera-chart distance and the average pixel area of the swatches. Distance varies from 650 cm to 2 m during the data collection process. The influence of the tilt of the chart plane with respect to the camera sensor plane is also studied. During testing, the proposed power trendline-based mathematical model performed with an error percentage of less than 1. This approach for distance measurement enables finer tuning of the machine learning-based model and, as a result, more accurate illuminance estimation for the work plane. © 2024 IEEE.

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are highly implemented in harsh and dynamic environments. In such configurations, faults and anomalies easily occur, causing unwanted disruptions in data accuracy and network performance. In the context of reliability and stability in WSN operations, effective fault detection techniques are vital. This research work discusses how several machine learning models may be applied, including Logistic Regression, Decision Tree, Random Forest, and K-Nearest Neighbors in order to detect fault in WSNs. The performance evaluation was performed based on major criteria, which are accuracy, precision, recall, and Fl score. This, therefore, makes these approaches to machine learning effective in identifying faults efficiently, hence offering a well-balanced solution that is scalable and robust for integrity and operational effectiveness of WSN s. © 2024 IEEE.

In the modern era of smart applications, video data is critically important in various contexts. In most of these applications, cameras are frequently incorporated to facilitate authentication. As a result, face recognition is the biometric method most frequently employed to authenticate users in these applications. The vulnerability of face recognition systems to spoofing attacks grows in tandem with their increased usage. As a result, robust countermeasures are required. This paper presents an approach to face anti-spoofing through transfer learning and YOLOv8 optimization. Additionally, a custom dataset was constructed using images obtained from web cameras and an existing dataset to assess the proposed work’s real-time effectiveness. The proposed approach also adds a blurriness threshold during image capture to improve performance. With a mean Average Precision (mAP50) of 0.975, the experimental outcomes highlight the model’s effectiveness in detecting face spoofing. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.
