An adaptive on-line scheme is designed to identify the uncertain and time-varying resonance modes in hard disk drive servo systems. Based on the identified results, the uncertain resonance mode is extracted and a peak filter is designed accordingly to provide stronger capability of disturbance suppression. The scheme does not require any extra excitation signal nor additional signal processing for the parameter identification. Compared to conventional method, the rates of learning and error convergence are greatly increased. The scheme can provide good stability margin at high frequency subject to the variation of the resonance frequency and the peak gain. Simulation results show the validity and effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

In this study, we propose an illogical discourse judgment technique using a concept association system with the aim of enabling computer-generated logical discourse. We focused on a relation of nouns and adjective phrases and arranged the relation between noun and adjective phrase on the viewpoint of the sense of illogical and considered what kind of phrase is a phrase not having sense of illogical. Then the knowledge structure of how to use nouns and adjective phrases is modeled by arranging the relation in a point of feeling of wrongness. Also, this paper proposes a technique for detection relation of nouns and adjective phrases by creating a knowledge model from generation of response sentences. This paper discusses detecting method illogical combinations of words. Using the method described in this report, we showed that this technique was able to very accurately judge illogical usages with 87% accuracy, thus demonstrating the effectiveness of the technique.

Greeting conversation plays an important part in smoothing oral communications. In the present paper, we describe a method of increase the number of appropriate greeting sentences for conversation and selecting sentences based on the situation by machine. We herein propose an intelligent greeting processing by which a machine generates various reply sentences automatically by obtaining information about the surrounding state and then generating the best conversation response based on the situation. Using the method described herein, we show that the proposed method increased the accuracy of greeting sentences to 84% and increased the number of greeting sentences to 23,891 sentences from 803 model sentences. Moreover, the technique used to select an appropriate sentence based on the situation was able to achieve an accuracy of 80.6%. When the situation was not considered, the accuracy was 10%. Thus, the proposed method is shown to be effective.

Our research aims to develop a robot which can make smooth conversation with human beings. Such robot needs to have abilities to understand and interpret words. Currently, a technique based on a large-scale language dictionary or a corpus is predominantly mostly used in the field of the language processing. As quite a lot of costs, resources and time are necessary to create such linguistic capital, automatic construction technique is also being researched. However, the knowledge in a category of common sense is inherent to human and difficult to construct automatically although it is indispensable knowledge for robot to realize conversation with human beings without sense of unease. In this paper, we propose a technique which contributes to semiautomatic construction of a large-scale language dictionary and a corpus. Concretely, a system using the proposed technique indicates a position of an unknown word to be registered in an existing thesaurus dictionary. The proposed technique was able to improve approximately 20% in accuracy compared with the traditional techniques.

This paper presents an algorithm that permits the identification of apneas - cessations in the sleeping patient's respiratory flow - in the respiratory airflow signal and relates them to the drops in blood oxyhemoglobin saturation that they produce. The structural nature of the algorithm allows us to perform a detailed characterization of the identified events and to easily modify the morphological detection criteria. This proposal is based on the fuzzy set theory for the representation and manipulation of the vagueness of the medical knowledge on which it is based, and on the constraint satisfaction problem formalism to provide a computable support to medical knowledge.
