The work demonstrates the possibilities of utilizing visualization of a digital model in the educational process of higher education in the training of engineers. As part of an educational design bureau, based on an assembly drawing, students need to develop an electronic model of a technical product, parameterize and visualize it, and prepare design documentation. The presentation of the project is carried out in a virtual reality system. Product design is carried out in T-FLEX CAD. This program is a professional design system for 2D and 3D modeling and is included in the package of the Russian PLM information system. Analysis of the content and effectiveness of educational activities on three-dimensional visualization of digital models, performed during group work, updates a number of traditional knowledge, skills and abilities for a qualified engineer. In the process of work, competencies of an advanced, innovative nature are also formed, related to both the professional and communicative spheres. © 2024 IEEE.

Semi-implicit methods for advection equations with explicit forms of numerical solution

We present a parametric family of semi-implicit second order accurate numerical methods for non-conservative and conservative advection equation for which the numerical solutions can be obtained in a fixed number of forward and backward alternating substitutions. The methods use a novel combination of implicit and explicit time discretizations for one-dimensional case and the Strang splitting method in several dimensional case. The methods are described for advection equations with a continuous variable velocity that can change its sign inside of computational domain. The methods are unconditionally stable in the non-conservative case for variable velocity and for variable numerical parameter. Several numerical experiments confirm the advantages of presented methods including an involvement of differential programming to find optimized values of the variable numerical parameter. © 2021, CC BY.

In this paper we propose a complete method for breath rate estimation using thermal video streams and computer vision algorithms. The system performs subject nose detection, interest point extraction and tracking, geometric transformation and minimum thermal region estimation. All algorithms are carefully designed in order to ensure real-time capability on a regular desktop computer. The experimental evaluation validates the proposed methodology, when compared with traditional breath rate extraction methods, returning high accuracy scores. © 2017 IEEE.

In this paper we propose a novel video retrieval approach based on relevant topics extraction from video subtitles using natural language processing strategies and movie temporal segmentation into scenes. The proposed method is able to identify various subjects existent in a subtitle document and deals with the polysemantic character of words. The approach has been tested on various movie genres, including documentaries, TV series, news, sports. The objective evaluation carried out on a video dataset selected from one week video archive of France Television proves the performance of our technique that returns a mean average precision score superior to 0.5.

For 3D stereoscopic videos the dept. perception represents an important factor that affects the human visual attention much more than any motion or texture contrast existent in a traditional 2D videos. In this context, the present paper addressed the issue of stereoscopic visual attention models designed to detect salient objects in 3D videos. We propose representing the image sequence as a 2D video stream and its associated dept. maps. The technique starts by combining a spatiotemporal attention model with a disparity map. The dept. map offers important information about the objects position in space and helps us estimating their relative distance to the video camera. The proposed method is evaluated on a set of ten 3D video streams and can be considered efficient and robust.

In this paper we introduce a comprehensive survey of wearable systems designed to assist the visual impaired users navigation in everyday life outdoor scenarios. We focus on presenting the main advantages and limitations of each technique in effort to inform the scientific community about the progress in the area of assistive devices and also offer users a review about the capabilities of each system. Various performance parameters are introduced in order to classify different systems by giving qualitative and quantitative measures for evaluation. At the end of the study conclusions are presented along with some perspectives for future work and development.

In this paper we tackle the issue of 3D mesh deformation when hard constraints of warping are imposed by user or application. First, we propose a review of the most salient methods existent in the technical literature. Then we retain for a more detailed analysis only some variants of Laplacian coordinates and Radial Basis Functions techniques that allow fine local movements of vertices and respect a set of constraints. We evaluate the selected techniques in terms of quality deformation, computational efficiency and displacement accuracy. The best results are obtained for the CTPS C 2 a continuous radial basis function closely followed by CP C 2 function.

In this paper we tackle the issue of video scene/DVD chapter segmentation. First, we introduce a review and analysis of the most salient methods existent in the technical literature. Then we propose a novel methodological framework for high level video temporal structuring and segmentation that extracts scenes/DVD chapters based on temporal constraints clustering, adaptive temporal lengths, neutralized shots and adaptive thresholding mechanism. The output of our method provides a structured video and facilitates the user access to different parts of the image sequence. In order to validate the proposed technique we have considered as low level visual features the interest points extracted using the SURF descriptor. The experimental evaluation validates the proposed approach returning an average score for the F1 norm of 82%.
