This work presents a high-performance AC-DC quasi single-stage current-fed resonant converter based elec.ric vehicles (EVs) charger. A non-linear control technique is applied which has two main objectives i.e; Power factor correction (PFC) and regulation of DC output voltage. For this purpose, super twisting sliding mode control (ST-SMC) is suggested in this study for 400V batteries of EVs. To reduce switching losses and improve efficiency, the secondary side switch shows turn OFF with zero voltage switching (ZVS) while the primary ones exhibit ZVS at turn ON instant. Hardware-in-loop (HIL) experimental validation based on the Delfino F28369D dual-core microcontroller is used to verify the performance of the controller and converter simulated on PSIM and MATLAB/Simulink.

We consider the minimum span channel allocation problem encountered in cellular systems. Our solution approach is based on a set of sequential heuristics, and incorporates concepts borrowed from graph coloring schemes. The performance of the new heuristics has been tested on known benchmark problems, whose optimal solutions have been recently quoted in the literature. The new heuristics are quite effective in terms of speed, as well as in terms of spans produced. The results obtained are near-optimal in almost all cases, and certainly comparable to those produced by slower optimization procedures, indicating that these new variations can be treated either as an efficient alternative to this type of problems or as a very good starting point to more complicated procedures.

In this paper, we proposed a novel scheme for error robust and energy efficient image transmission over wireless sensor networks. The innovations of proposed scheme are two folds: multiple bitstream image encoding to achieve error robust transmission and small fragment burst transmission to achieve efficient transmission. In the case of image encoding, a multiple bitstream image encoding is developed based on the decomposition of images in the wavelet domain. We first group wavelet coefficients into multiple trees according to parent-child relationship and then code them separately by SPIHT algorithm to form multiple bitstreams. We show that such decomposition is able to reduce error propagation in transmission. To further enhance the error robustness, unequal error protection strategy with RCPC/CRC is implemented The coding rate is designed based on the bit error sensitivity of different bit planes. In the stage of image transmission, we divide the multiple bit streams into small fragments and transmit them in burst. We demonstrate that such transmission strategy matches well with the media access control layer protocol as well as the link layer protocol currently employed in wireless sensor networks. We achieve energy efficient transmission by saving energy consumed on control overhead and device switching from sleep to active. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme has not only high energy efficiency in transmission but also graceful degradation in PSNR performance over high BERs channels in terms of image reconstruction quality at the base station.

The throughput performance (spectral efficiency) versus SNR of packet transmission using uncoded signalling is compared to channel capacity. It is shown that the uncoded M-QAM signalling is 8.25 ± 0.5 dB away from capacity over a wide range of block lengths L. For m-chip spread spectrum, the corresponding value is 10.5 dB. This result may be useful for evaluating the benefit of adaptive signalling in various system contexts without the need to refer to a specific air interface.

The complexity of nanometer SoC design requires the co-design and development of circuit design and packaging technology to enable a successful 'total integrated solution'. In this paper we introduce a new area I/O algorithm for the recent flip-chip packaging technology. The algorithm combines a clustering technique with area I/O planning algorithm to avoid iterations during "placement and area I/O pad assignment". Experiment results show that the total interconnect length (including both on-chip and off-chip parts) and delay are reduced by 10-15% comparing with traditional algorithms.

In this paper, a speech based emotion classification method is presented. Six basic human emotions including anger, dislike, fear, happiness, sadness and surprise are investigated. The recognizer presented in this paper is based on the Discrete Hidden Markov Model and a novel feature vector based on Mel frequency short time speech power coefficients is proposed. A universal codebook is constructed based on emotions under observation for each experiment. The databases consist of 90 emotional utterances each from two speakers. Several experiments including ungrouped emotion classification and grouped emotion classification are conducted. For the ungrouped emotion classification, an average accuracy of 72.22% and 60% are obtained respectively for utterances of the two speakers. For grouped emotion classification, higher accuracy of 94.44% and 70% are achieved.
