The nonlinear electromagnetic characteristics of spherical reluctance motor (SPRM) make the torque analysis quite difficult. This paper proposes a method to estimate the error of torque direct superposition based on backpropagation neural network (BPNN) with pretreatment. The finite element analysis (FEA) is used to obtain the single coil torque and the synthesized torque data of adjacent coils on the same layer. The spin angle, pitch angle, excitation current and pretreated data are used as the inputs, and the error of the torque direct superposition is used as the output for BPNN model. The simulation results show that this method can accurately predict the error of the torque superposition of adjacent coils. © 2023 IEEE.

Integrating digital data and human sensory input in real-world settings offers new possibilities in device diagnostics and maintenance. In this study, we utilized the EcoStruxure Augmented Operator Advisor to develop an augmented reality application for a family house heating system. Our application was designed without access to the real heating system;instead, we simulated its operation with a programmable logic controller. Our final application includes three primary scenes: the heat pump, its indoor unit, and the engine room. Drawing on our practical experience, we discuss the benefits of our approach and the software tools used and summarize our subjective opinions. © 2024 IEEE.

This research looks into the impact of communication flaws, such as delays, on the power quality of an AC microgrid operating in islanded mode. To do this, simulation models of the microgrid and its secondary level control system are combined with stochastic delay models for industrial communication protocols. The results show how control strategies can affect the standalone operation when using communication protocols, as well as how the choice of communication technology can affect the transient response. A straightforward strategy is used to improve control performance using enhanced model predictive control, without changing the conventional secondary control structure. It has been demonstrated that the main advanced controller can be tuned to reduce oscillations caused by delays and, to some extent, improve power quality. The framework provided can be used to design and verify the integration of communication and control subsystems in microgrids. The design and verification of the integration of communication and control subsystems in microgrids were done using the MATLAB/SIMULINK environment. © 2023 IEEE.

Energy management system (EMS) is an important tool for energy efficiency and reliability of the power system. The optimal power dispatch of energy resources can be obtained using the nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC). It is formulated as an optimization problem subject to linear and nonlinear constraints. Although the existing system works well under the current conditions, power loss has not been considered. Power loss in transmission lines occurs due to their resistance and a high amount of power flow to loads connecting to the system. The power loss leads to decreased efficiency in the electrical system and reduces the lifespan of equipment because of the high temperature from loss. This paper aims to analyze the power loss in the Mae Hong Son (MHS) microgrid. To achieve the research objectives, we employ the EMS of MHS with NMPC and calculate power loss in transmission lines for a period of 7 days. EMS considers three objective functions, namely, total operating cost, total carbon dioxide emission, and combined economic and emission dispatch and take into account of three seasons consisting of rainy, winter, and summer. © 2024 IEEE.

The power transmission system is rapidly changing due to the integration of renewable sources such as wind and solar power. However, these additions are converter-based hence their behavior is different from traditional synchronous generator-based power systems. In addition, the majority of the converters are grid-following inverters and a high share of grid-following inverters can have adverse effects on the power system stability. To mitigate the adverse effects, a new concept called grid-forming inverters is emerging. This paper studies the ability of the grid-forming inverters to maintain the power system stability under high inverter-based resource scenarios up until 100% inverter-based resource share. The research identified that the two-area Kundur model is stable up to 50% grid following inverter share and with the use of a sufficient share of grid-forming inverters, the system can reach up to 100% inverter-based resource share. Furthermore, the location sensitivity of the grid-forming inverter and the effects of different power flow scenarios at high inverter-based resource share were studied. © 2024 IEEE.

Federated Reinforcement Learning (FRL) provides a promising way to speedup training in reinforcement learning using multiple edge devices that can operate in parallel. Recently, it has been shown that even when these edge devices have access to different dynamic models, an optimal convergence rate that has a linear speedup proportional to the number of devices is achievable. However, this result requires that the stepsize in the algorithm be chosen in a manner dependent on the unknown model parameters. Also, it applies only to a discounted setting, which has been argued to fit episodic tasks better than continuing control tasks. In this paper, we obtain finite-time bounds for heterogeneous FRL with average rewards. We show that the optimal convergence rate with a linear speedup is possible even with a universal stepsize choice, independent of the underlying dynamics. To achieve our result, we modify the existing one-timescale FRL method to a novel two-timescale variant that additionally incorporates iterate averaging. © 2024 IEEE.

Maintaining stability of grid-following VSC during severe grid faults remains an open problem, where phase locked loop (PLL) plays a critical role. Previous research on PLL and transient stability either introduces time delays which degrades the system dynamics, or is computationally expensive. In this paper, an improved SRF-PLL configuration with an anti-windup compensator is proposed to improve the transient stability of the grid-following VSC. Based on the linearized model of PLL, an optimization problem is formulated to determine the parameters of the anti-windup compensator. Simulation results illustrated that the proposed PLL can tremendously enhance the transient stability of grid-following VSC compared with the existing PLLs. © 2024 IEEE.

In a modern society, driven by both economic interests and a concern for personal privacy, indoor occupancy, either at workspace or in other type of accommodation, became a matter of stressed research interest. Though various methodologies have been developed so far, the proposed solutions of a technical problem of occupancy estimation still suffer from narrow perspectives and partial solutions, usually formulated as an optimization of a chosen mathematized problem. This paper considers the broader context of the problem, particularly its physical background, basic assumptions for the effective use of the environmental variables in occupancy estimations and the viable frameworks, either conventional or modern machine learning ones, that are to meet those assumptions. The approach is experimentally verified in a case study. © 2024 IEEE.

Autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV), also known as underwater drones, often play the important role of assisting humans to complete the tasks of ocean exploration, monitoring, and inspection of underwater infrastructure. However, the limited power supplied by batteries has restricted the navigation tasks of underwater vehicles. The development of a wireless power transfer (WPT) system for AUVs can be regarded as an important first step to realize a fully unmanned underwater vehicle. Therefore, this paper aims to develop a wireless power transfer system suitable for underwater vehicles to solve charging issues in an underwater environment. Considering the special environment with seawater as the medium, a 200W WPT charging system is implemented based on the full-bridge LLC resonant circuit combined with the loosely coupled coil and the step-down circuit. The experimental results have validated the system is able to operate in an underwater environment with the efficiency up to 90.17% in freshwater and 87.05% in seawater. © 2023 The Korean Institute of Power Electronics.

Filling perfume on a filling machine which is controlled based on a time limitation system, causes a difference between the set point and the filling results so that the operator must add or subtract to each perfume bottle that has been filled. Based on this, a perfume filling machine was designed with an effort to increase filling accuracy using a weight limitation system, where a load cell sensor is the instrumentation used. Based on error evaluation calculations using Mean Square Error (MSE), the research method using SMA has an average square error value of 0.195 grams. If expressed as a percentage, the error from noise reduction efforts is 0.20%. Meanwhile, WMA has an average square error value of 0.17 grams and an EMA of 0.62 grams. If expressed as a percentage, the error size of the WMA noise reduction effort is 0.20% and the EMA is 0.35%. The system reduced noise from load cell sensor readings using a simple moving average noise filter method, the Simple Moving Average (SMA) method. The application of the SMA method can increase the accuracy of sensor readings by an average of up to 0.13% in other words this method can reduce the average noise to 0.420 grams which is stable at around 1503 RPM - 1509 RPM, and has minimal vibration. © 2023 IEEE.
