We purpose a system that can semi-automatically generate ontology-based annotations for a social network by leveraging the annotations provided by the most active user (also known as the central actor). Social context of an image is of central importance in our approach towards semantic semi-automatic annotation. For the context of an image, we consider several factors like geo-reference, time and relationship among actors in social networks. Our system leverages the context, which is automatically available along with the image. We have also extended Social Network Analysis techniques by considering the granularity of relationships among actors under consideration. In this paper a semantic web framework is used to represent the social network and to deal with the diversity of relationships. OntoCAIM ontology is developed which not only encompasses Social Network Analysis functionality but also defines mechanism to annotate images with an underlying ontology. Copyright 2011 ACM.

Diffusion filtering techniques are mostly used to enhance the ridge structure of a noisy fingerprint image. In these filtering techniques the measurement of local orientation is needed. The diffusion tensor used in these techniques reflects the local image structure, as in a structure tensor same set of eigenvectors are used. To control the diffusion along the direction of high coherence special Eigenvalues are chosen. It works well in enhancing the ridges but, it takes orientation angles implicitly by using local image structure (derivatives). As we know that the derivatives have undesirable property of enhancing noise which makes the process of finding the correct orientation more difficult. This gives a further motivation for the improved orientation field calculated by some more reliable mean, which can overcome such difficulties. Therefore, in this work a Multi-Scale DDFB is used which adaptively change the local neighborhood size with the image local contrast and feature width. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is noise robust and is more suitable for feature localization as compare to other coherence enhancement diffusion algorithms. © 2011 IEEE.

We study the problem of throughput maximization in multi-hop wireless networks with end-to-end delay constraints for each session. This problem has received much attention starting with the work of Grossglauser and Tse (2002), and it has been shown that there is a significant tradeoff between the end-to-end delays and the total achievable rate. We develop algorithms to compute such tradeoffs with provable performance guarantees for arbitrary instances, with general interference models. Given a target delay-bound δ(c) for each session c, our algorithm gives a stable flow vector with a total throughput within a factor of O (log δm/log log δm) of the maximum, so that the per-session (end-to-end) delay is O (log δm/log log δmδ(c)) 2), where δm = maxc{δ(c)};note that these bounds depend only on the delays, and not on the network size, and this is the first such result, to our knowledge. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper proposes a new model for Technology & Automation Evaluation of an industry. The method involves measuring the effect of different technology elements on various dimensions of an industry. As proof-of-concept, the Technology Ratio of a sample (Tesla Industries) has been calculated using this method. It has been found that this technique may be applied to analyze the Technology application of any industry, thus indicating the areas that may be automated to improve performance and efficiency. ©2010 IEEE.

Renewable energy is a cheap, clean and abundant source of energy that can be used to feed isolated loads as well as grid connected ones. Wind energy and tidal energy are two popular forms of renewable energy. The variation of output power with the continuous variation of tides or wind speed can cause significant power quality issues. This paper studies a network presenting a rural load, such as a small village, fed from a hybrid wind/tidal turbines that are connected to a weak grid. The effect of the variation in tides and wind speed on the power quality is illustrated via simulation. The introduction of the Modulated Power Filter Compensator (MPFC) to the network establishes a significant improvement to the power quality. The proposed MPFC is a cheap and robust FACTS based device. It is controlled via a tri-loop dynamic error-driven PI controller. This scheme proved its ability to introduce a significant improvement which is illustrated via comparing the simulation results of the studied network with and without the MPFC. ©2010 IEEE.

The presence of a FACTS device can introduce a significant improvement to the power quality of such networks. This paper studies a stand-alone network consisting of a rural load, such as a small village, fed from a tidal turbine. The introduction of the Dynamic Voltage Regulator (DVR) to the network establishes a significant improvement to the power quality. The proposed DVR is a cheap and robust FACTS based device. Usage of finger orient imaging for personal identification is one of the oldest and widely used techniques. One of the important steps in fingerprint matching procedure is to reliably extract the discriminating features called minutiae. However, some of the acquired images are of poor quality. Therefore, one must resort to the pre-processing the images. There are various pre-processing techniques has been identified like the Gabor filtering. However, one limiting factor in these e enhancement techniques is their dependence on the extraction of orientation estimates. These estimates remain no longer reliable under some noisy conditions. In this paper we avoided the explicit estimate of the orientation information and relied on the Fourier sinusoidal pattern. We have used Fourier cleaning in the form of notch filter, highpass filter and binarization along with Gabor filter to enhance the fingerprint images. The conducted experiments do suggest a modest raise of around 20-25% in true minutiae matching rate in these poorly visible fingerprint regions.

This paper aims to provide the quality function deployment of the cement industry of Pakistan. The data was primarily collected from the customers, competitors and company's higher authorities through a questionnaire. For this purpose, different industrial sites all across Pakistan were visited. The result showed that Fauji Cement Company Limited (FCCL) has an esteemed place in the cement industry of Pakistan with some room for improvement in the private sector. The data collected showed that customers require good quality and strength with nominal prices. This analysis signifies what different customers want and also what they look for in any cement industry.
