This paper proposes a new model for Technology & Automation Evaluation of an industry. The method involves measuring the effect of different technology elements on various dimensions of an industry. As proof-of-concept, the Technology Ratio of a sample (Tesla Industries) has been calculated using this method. It has been found that this technique may be applied to analyze the Technology application of any industry, thus indicating the areas that may be automated to improve performance and efficiency.

This paper aims to perform SWOT analysis of the mobile telecom sector in Pakistan. Detailed study has been carried out by conducting surveys with subjects having different backgrounds and belonging to different professions, regions and age groups. A comparative study of the mobile networks presently operating in Pakistan has been performed. It is found that telecom sector has significant potential to further expand and establish itself in far flung regions of Pakistan. With the emergence of new technologies worldwide, telecom industry in Pakistan has a lot to benefit from and offer high quality services to mobile phone users. By adopting the proposed strategies, telecom industry can significantly increase its market share and establish itself as the primary means of communication.

In today's world of increasing competition, it is very necessary to keep up with the pace of ever changing customer demands. A method to measure the competitiveness of a firm in the industry is through the analysis of competitive framework. This paper measures the competitiveness of Palmchip Corporation, which is operating in Digital Electronics Industry with its competitor Nextek. In order to perform the competitive analysis data was collected through survey by making questionnaire. It was found that Palmchip Corporation has an edge over its competitor Nextek in the Digital Electronics Industry. This paper can help the Palmchip Corporation in further looking at its high points and low points with respect to its competitor Nextek and hence further cement its chances of increasing its market share in the industry.

This paper presents a novel technique for reducing time delay and improving the performance of Automatic Link Establishment (ALE) in High Frequency (HF) radios. The techniques proposed for Listen Before Transmit (LBT) based on cognitive radio sensing techniques such as energy detection, matched filter detection and cyclostationary feature detection. ALE is a de facto standard for HF radios through which communication is to be carried out by automatically selecting the channel. Current LBT techniques for ALE work fine for good quality channels but it performs pitiable when the channel quality becomes worst.

Sit-to-stand (STS) movement is a common human task which involves combination of a musculoskeletal structure integrated with neural control. We present a conceptual 3D bipedal nonlinear model for STS task with optimal controller design for exoskeleton torques. This model has 7 sagittal plane angles, 3 frontal plane angles, and 3 foot translational variables with 3 position based holonomic constraints. We regulate the model with optimal controller design by coupled torque optimization due to muscular interaction between ankle, knee and hip joints. Our simulation results show the improvement in the results from previous controller design schemes. We further obtain experimental data for STS task on a force plate to compare the ground reaction forces of experimental data with our mathematical framework. This proves the validity of the model to extend this mathematical framework for further analysis of healthy and neuro-deficient subjects and accordingly designs of ergonomics and rehabilitation robotics.

Tidal energy is a cheap, clean and abundant source of energy that can be used to feed isolated loads as well as grid connected ones. The variation of output power with the continuous variation of tides can cause significant power quality issues. This paper studies a network presenting a rural load, such as a small village, fed from a tidal turbine that is connected to a weak grid. The effect of the variation in tides on the power quality is illustrated via simulation. The introduction of the Modulated Power Filter Compensator (MPFC) to the network establishes a significant improvement to the power quality. The proposed MPFC is a cheap and robust FACTS based device. It is controlled via a tri-loop dynamic error-driven PI controller. This scheme proved its ability to introduce a significant improvement which is illustrated via comparing the simulation results of the studied network with and without the MPFC. ©2009 IEEE.

Renewable energy can act as a sufficient and economic source of electrical energy in rural villages. In spite of being cheap, clean and abundant, the continuous fluctuations in the renewable energy sources causes significant power quality issues. Although the presence of a weak grid improves the rural village power quality, the presence of a FACTS device can introduce a significant improvement to the power quality of such a network. This paper studies a network presenting a rural load, such as a small village, fed from a wind turbine and a tidal turbine connected to a weak grid. The effect of the variation in wind speed and tides on the power quality is illustrated via simulation. The introduction of the Dynamic Voltage Regulator (DVR) to the network establishes a significant improvement to the power quality. The proposed DVR is a cheap and robust FACTS based device. It is controlled via a tri-loop dynamic error-driven PI controller. This scheme proved its ability to introduce a significant improvement which is illustrated via comparing the simulation results of the studied network with and without the DVR. ©2009 IEEE.

First of all, mathematically detailed non-linear and linear relative dynamic models for satellites in formation flying in low earth orbit (LEO) are derived and next state estimation based on Kalman filter is emphasized. The Extended Kalman filter (EKF) and linear Kalman filter (LKF) for nonlinear and linear relative models respectively are compared in this paper. By increasing relative distance between satellites in formation, EKF based on nonlinear model outperforms the LKF which is based on linear model. A comparison of the centralized EKF and the centralized LKF has been made to show that centralized EKF exhibits better performance for large formations in terms of absolute estimation error.

A corneal endothelial cell image provides vast amount of information about a human eye. The cell density and cell shape parameters of a given endothelial cell image help ophthalmologists in making many vital clinical decisions. The acquired endothelial image is poor in contrast where cell boundaries are masked in the background. Previously, most of the work was based on morphological operations in spatial domain. However, if we think of cell structure as texture hidden in noisy background, we can get help from wavelet-texture segmentation, a well studied area. In this study, we propose a non-subsampled Wavelet pyramid decomposition of lowpass region. At certain level of the pyramid, we start observing cleaner cell boundary structure which greatly facilitates its segmentation. Once segmented automatic cell counting can be used and simulation results have shown improvement in cell density count. © 2007 Asian Network for Scientific Information.
