In this paper, we propose a new approach to cover song identification using a CNN (convolutional neural network). Most previous studies extract the feature vectors that characterize the cover song relation from a pair of songs and used it to compute the (dis)similarity between the two songs. Based on the observation that there is a meaningful pattern between cover songs and that this can be learned, we have reformulated the cover song identification problem in a machine learning framework. To do this, we first build the CNN using as an input a cross-similarity matrix generated from a pair of songs. We then construct the data set composed of cover song pairs and non-cover song pairs, which are used as positive and negative training samples, respectively. The trained CNN outputs the probability of being in the cover song relation given a cross-similarity matrix generated from any two pieces of music and identifies the cover song by ranking on the probability. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm achieves performance better than or comparable to the state-of-the-art. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The quality of a model is determined by how closely it mimics the true plant. In this paper we have used the model of customized robotic arm, previously designed by the authors. This paper talks about the consequences of structured uncertainties on the robustness of a controller. We have incorporated structured uncertainties into a system of customized robotic gripper arm by using the method of μ-synthesis. Then we have designed H ∞ Compensator for the uncertain system. For the compensated and uncompensated responses of the system a comparative analysis is made. The results validate the significance of the controller and emphasize the robustness of the designed controller.

Background: Experimental and epidemiological studies indicate an association between exposure to particulate matter (PM) air pollution and increased risk of type 2 diabetes. In view of the high and increasing prevalence of diabetes, we aimed to quantify the burden of type 2 diabetes attributable to PM_2·5 originating from ambient and household air pollution. Methods: We systematically compiled all relevant cohort and case-control studies assessing the effect of exposure to household and ambient fine particulate matter (PM_2·5) air pollution on type 2 diabetes incidence and mortality. We derived an exposure–response curve from the extracted relative risk estimates using the MR-BRT (meta-regression—Bayesian, regularised, trimmed) tool. The estimated curve was linked to ambient and household PM_2·5 exposures from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2019, and estimates of the attributable burden (population attributable fractions and rates per 100 000 population of deaths and disability-adjusted life-years) for 204 countries from 1990 to 2019 were calculated. We also assessed the role of changes in exposure, population size, age, and type 2 diabetes incidence in the observed trend in PM_2·5-attributable type 2 diabetes burden. All estimates are presented with 95% uncertainty intervals. Findings: In 2019, approximately a fifth of the global burden of type 2 diabetes was attributable to PM_2·5 exposure, with an estimated 3·78 (95% uncertainty interval 2·68–4·83) deaths per 100 000 population and 167 (117–223) disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) per 100 000 population. Approximately 13·4% (9·49–17·5) of deaths and 13·6% (9·73–17·9) of DALYs due to type 2 diabetes were contributed by ambient PM2·5, and 6·50% (4·22–9·53) of deaths and 5·92% (3·81–8·64) of DALYs by household air pollution. This paper describes a modeling and control of Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) DC-DC converter. State space averaging technique is used to get the nominal model of the full bridge isolated DC-DC converter. Robust Control theory is then applied to modify this nominal model to standard format used for parametric uncertainties. H ∞ control technique is implemented to regulate the output voltage in the presence of parametric uncertainties. System is then simulated in MATLAB Simulink as standard feedback system and results are compared with the LQR and H 2 control.

Successful execution of biomechanical sit-to-stand （STS）task combines a forward thrust phase with an upward extension phase and stable movement termination. We have previously developed a fuzzy dynamic model to analyze the STS task by joining two local linear models, defined at the equilibrium positions, via Gaussian membership functions. The local linear models were obtained from a four-segment biomechanical representation of the human body dynamics in the sagittal plane. Our fuzzy controller model uses an observer to reconstruct velocity data from noisy observation of joint positions. In this study, we propose a reduced order observer with an optimal controller design for the STS task. The fuzzy optimal controller generates feedback and feedforward components of joint torques, whereby the latter are derived from a reference trajectory. Our movement control strategy employing fuzzy reduced order observer with fuzzy controller leads to physiologically tractable simulation of the STS movement with results that are superior to those previously obtained with full order compensators.

The Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) will be the next generation gamma-ray observatory and will be the major global instrument for very-high-energy astronomy over the next decade, offering 5 − 10 × better flux sensitivity than current generation gamma-ray telescopes. Each telescope will provide a snapshot of gamma-ray induced particle showers by capturing the induced Cherenkov emission at ground level. The simulation of such events provides images that can be used as training data for convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to determine the energy of the initial gamma rays. Compared to other state-of-the-art algorithms, analyses based on CNNs promise to further enhance the performance to be achieved by CTA. Pattern spectra are commonly used tools for image classification and provide the distributions of the shapes and sizes of various objects comprising an image. The use of relatively shallow CNNs on pattern spectra would automatically select relevant combinations of features within an image, taking advantage of the 2D nature of pattern spectra. In this work, we generate pattern spectra from simulated gamma-ray events instead of using the raw images themselves in order to train our CNN for energy reconstruction. This is different from other relevant learning and feature selection methods that have been tried in the past. MANET is a spontaneously deployed network of mobile devices working on the assumption of nodes cooperation in absence of a centralized controlling authority. The assumption of nodes cooperation is true only if nodes are trustworthy. However, sometime nodes behave maliciously and selfishly by not cooperating in routing and forwarding processes. The purpose of malicious node is to assault network while the motivation behind selfish node is to save its assets by not cooperating with other, so appropriate security measures must be provided for handling the asserted types of nodes. Trust management is one of the schemes that can be utilized for dealing with the affirmed nodes in MANET. However, trust management in MANET is a challenging task because of its unique characteristics. This paper investigates general issues related to each step of trust management in MANET and explores trust management schemes developed for routing security in MANET.

The advanced Persistent Threat (APT) attacks are special kind of slow moving attacks that are designed to defeat security controls using unique attack vectors and malware specifically developed for the target organization. Aim behind APT attacks is not to disrupt services but to steal valuable data and intellectual property. Therefore, timely detection of APT attack is very important. We believe that deception tools like honeypots can significantly increase the possibility of early detection of such sophisticated attacks. In this research effort, a framework is proposed in which Honeypot along with NIDS is used to actively alert the administrator and not leaving the detection of APT in the hands to administrator by correlating different network events. The proposed framework is also implemented to test effectiveness of the proposed technique. © 2015 ACM.

The Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) is the future observatory for ground-based imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes. Each telescope will provide a snapshot of gamma-ray induced particle showers by capturing the induced Cherenkov emission at ground level. The simulation of such events provides camera images that can be used as training data for convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to differentiate signals from background events and to determine the energy of the initial gamma-ray events. Pattern spectra are commonly used tools for image classification and provide the distributions of the sizes and shapes of features comprising an image. The application of pattern spectra on a CNN allows the selection of relevant combinations of features within an image. In this work, we generate pattern spectra from simulated gamma-ray images to train a CNN for signal-background separation and energy reconstruction for CTA. We compare our results to a CNN trained with CTA images and find that the pattern spectra-based analysis is computationally less expensive but not competitive with the purely CTA images-based analysis.
