In order to cope with the current climate crisis, reducing greenhouse gas emissions is an important issue, and it is necessary to increase the amount of renewable energy generation. However, there is a problem of economics in renewable energy, and in the case of the Republic of Korea, there is a problem of geographical mismatch between the supply and demand of renewable energy. This study proposes building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) as a way to solve the problems associated with renewable energy. In this study, a model for charging an electric bus by the power generated by building integrated photovoltaics was proposed, evaluated and analyzed. The results show that BIPV can generate revenue of KRW 39.9 billion over 30 years and can contribute to increasing the amount of renewable energy generation in Seoul by accounting for 1.85% of the annual solar power generation in Seoul. © 2024 Korean Institute of electrical Engineers. Short-term renewable energy uncertainties and inertia consideration in power system generation expansion planning

In modern power systems, renewable energy (RE) sources are increasingly integrated to reduce reliance on fossil-fuel-based generation. However, the uncertainties and lack of rotational inertia associated with renewable energy generators (REGs) pose challenges to grid stability. This paper proposes a novel mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model that optimizes energy costs while enhancing system inertia in the presence of RE uncertainties. The model incorporates both REG uncertainties and inertia requirements into the planning process. To validate its effectiveness, RE uncertainty data from Mangaung Municipality, Free State Province, South Africa, is used for analysis, and the model is tested on the IEEE 6-bus test system. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach improves system inertia from 5.875 s to 6.304 s while reducing energy costs from $1752.88/MWh to $1614.50/MWh in Case 3, where both RE uncertainties and system inertia are considered. These results show a clear advantage over Case 1 (cost minimization only) and Case 2 (inertia maximization only), highlighting the model's ability to balance economic and stability objectives in renewable-integrated power grids. © 2025 The Authors

Considering the advancements in autonomous driving technologies, the necessity for an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) to incorporate a multitude of sensors for enhanced precision has become paramount. Consequently, the increase of sensors correlates directly with the escalation of autonomous driving capabilities. However, this escalation causes a larger volume of data traffic and an increase in the latency within the in-vehicle network (IVN). As the IVN latency increases, the overall latency of ADAS from the sensor to the actuator increases. This increased latency can affect the safety of ADAS. Hence, latency analysis for various sensors is required. In this paper, we struct Ethernet-based zonal architecture considered for future automotive architecture and analyze the factor of end-to-end latency for the safety-related ADAS with multi-type sensors, including IVN latency. © 2024 IEEE.

With the development of the smart shipping industry, unmanned vessel technology is rapidly evolving, accompanied by a demand for robust Internet of Things (IoT) communication security practices. Key communication technologies for the operation of unmanned vessels include external vessel communication. One crucial aspect is the verification of the identities of the parties involved in these communication systems, as this ensures secure and trusted interactions between unmanned vessels and port management authorities. Identity authentication plays a vital role in ensuring the secure communication of unmanned vessels. This paper aims to analyze potential risks related to identity authentication technology in unmanned vessel communication systems. To effectively address these risks, we propose leveraging digital certificates and blockchain technology to achieve device non-repudiation and substitution. Based on this technology, we organize and implement defense strategies using the MITRE ATT&CK framework. This framework provides a comprehensive and systematic approach to understanding potential threats and designing appropriate defense measures. By utilizing this framework, security teams can better comprehend vulnerabilities and formulate effective countermeasures. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed defense framework, we conducted simulation experiments. These experiments helped us evaluate the efficiency and reliability of the strategies in real-world scenarios. Through these experiments, we could ascertain whether the countermeasures effectively mitigated the identified risks and ensured the secure communication of unmanned vessels. © 2024 National Taiwan Ocean University

This study presents the development of a lead zirconate titanate (PZT)-based Febry-Perrot Interferometer (FPI) tailored for the selective transmission of specific wavelengths. Our FPI integrates two mirrors, 3-channel PZT actuators, and interfacing electronics, enabling dynamic adjustments in PZT actuator lengths through voltage application. The interface electronics facilitate precise voltage control over the multi-channel PZT actuators, regulating the air gap between mirrors. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed interfacing electronics in modulating the transmission peak of light, resulting in a narrowed full width at half maximum (FWHM) and a heightened transmittance rate at targeted wavelengths. Additionally, the interface adept.y manages multi-channel PZT voltages, mitigating potential mirror alignment discrepancies during FPI assembly. By optimizing the air gap between the mirrors, significant enhancements in the center wavelength of the transmitted beam are achieved. Copyright © The Korean Institute of electrical Engineers.

A Study on Learning of Ensemble Classification Model Based on Radial Basis Function Neural Networks

In this study, we introduce an ensemble model that leverages a radial basis function neural network as the base model to enhance the classification performance of a pattern classifier. While existing ensemble models use the majority vote technique for aggregation, we proposes a new aggregation method that combines a simple linear function and a softmax function, using the outputs of the base model as input variables. This aggregation approach linearly combines the class prediction probabilities from each base model to calculate the class-specific probability for the ensemble model. To evaluate the performance of the proposed pattern classifier, we used 14 datasets to optimize the parameters of the linear function and compared the performance with existing pattern classifiers. Our method achieved better results on 10 out of the 14 datasets compared to other pattern classifiers. Additionally, when compared with a recently reported ensemble model, our method also demonstrated superior performance. Copyright © The Korean Institute of electrical Engineers.

The new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which triggered the COVID-19 pandemic, has had an unparalleled effect on economies, cultures, and world health. In response to the critical need for strict COVID-19 screening systems in public areas, this study presents a creative Secured Entry Control system. Detecting and controlling possible COVID-19 carriers attempting to enter the country is made possible by this system, which makes use of deep learning algorithms and IoT technology. The mask detection algorithm, MobileNetV2 model, has an exceptional validation accuracy of 98.96\%. The model's reliability is supported by performance evaluations using ROC curves, confusion matrix analysis, and an AUC value of 98.96\%, which is close to the optimal AUC score of 100\%. Because MobileNetV2 is well-suited for low-processing devices, it is easy to deploy it on Raspberry Pi, which helps to create an affordable system. Furthermore, by spotting increased body temperatures, a contactless temperature sensor improves the system's ability to identify possible COVID-19 carriers. The functioning of the system is confirmed by the working prototype that is presented in the Experimental Results section. The main goal of this research is to create an autonomous system that is affordable and selectively allows access to people who are less likely to transmit COVID-19 in public areas. To achieve the overall objective of reducing the spread of COVID-19 in public spaces, this research highlights the successful integration of mask identification algorithms and IoT. © 2024 IEEE.

Direct Torque Control of IPMSMs for Fast Dynamic Response with Constant Switching Frequency

This paper proposes the direct torque control (DTC) of interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSMs) for fast dynamic response with constant switching frequency. The conventional DTC is constructed based on the hysteresis flux and torque controllers with the flux and torque errors as input. The switching frequency of DTC is not constant. In the DTC with constant switching frequency, a torque regulator with a constant switching frequency is applied to overcome this problem, instead of the hysteresis torque controller for the conventional DTC. The DTC with constant switching frequency uses a torque regulator with a proportional-integral (PI) torque controller and a triangular carrier to realize a constant switching frequency. Compared to the conventional DTC, the DTC with constant switching frequency has the poor dynamic response because both voltage vectors increasing and decreasing torque are selected in the transient state. In this paper, the bandwidth of PI torque controller is varied to improve the dynamic response of the DTC with constant switching frequency. In this article, the analysis of electromagnetic performances and loss according to the operating ranges are conducted through the comparative study with surfaced mounted permanent magnet synchronous machine(SPMSM) and vernier PM machine(VPMM), which is classified into flux modulation pole and no flux modulation pole types. We investigated SPMSM and VPMM show different flux weakening capability at high speed, VPMM can maintain high torque due to the flux modulation effect but SPMSM was not. We revealed that high torque and power factor are related with the gear ratio closely for VPMM and SPMSM. Furthermore, VPMM with high gear ratio model is subjected to the influence of eddy current which causes degradation of the output torque and the loss of rotor core tends to be increased depending on levels of flux modulation.
