Advertising legal compliance reviews have always been time-consuming and labor-intensive, and existing Large Language Models(LLMs) are far worse performing than senior industry experts. In this paper, we propose a novel LLMs-based text-visual question answering method called Adchat-TVQA for advertising legal compliance review. After reading an advertising image and the corresponding review question, it will first understand the content on the image through multimodal learning, then optimize the question with Zero-Shot Chain-of-Thought (CoT) prompting method based on predefined industry expert experience, and finally input the augmented question into the large language model for inquiry. The feasibility of this method is verified through system prototype implementation and end-to-end functional tests. In addition, we summarized the characteristics of advertising images and added image segmentation and text box transpose to the data processing process for system performance improvement. Performance testing of the text visual cognitive question task on the AIWIN2021 dataset shows that the method scores higher than Microsoft's LayoutLM, with an increasement of the score from 51.52% to 52.74%. © 2024 IEEE.

Fuzzy-rule-decided small cell offloading for rate-adaptive SVC-DASH video streaming over the vehicle environment

This paper proposed an SVC-DASH video streaming method over the vehicular environment based on the Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) architecture. For the streaming concern, a control scheme using the Segment-Set-based buffer-aware bitrate adaptation with the backward quality's increment control was proposed;for the mobility concern, a Small Cell Video Streaming Offloading (SC–VSO) control scheme adopting the multiple attribute fuzzy-based decision for deciding whether it can offload the video streaming traffic from a macro cell to a small cell or not was proposed. To have the suitable bitrate adaptation and stable quality variation, three factors that the proposed streaming control scheme considers are (i) estimated bandwidth, (ii) buffer occupancy and (iii) quality variation. Since the vehicle is moving across many types of Base Stations (BSs), the proposed mobility control scheme can decide whether to have SC-VSO or not before vehicle X entering into the ahead small cell's signal coverage based on (i) the network situations of the corresponding macro and small cell and (ii) the reported context from vehicle X using the proposed fuzzy logic mechanism. The performance evaluation results shown that the proposed method has the higher video quality and better quality stability for video streaming over the vehicle environment. © 2023 Elsevier B.V.

Neural Style Transfer (NST) has emerged as a powerful technique for artistic image synthesis by fusing the base image with style source. In this study, we present a comparative analysis of NST using popular convolutional neural network (CNN) architectures, using pre-trained models such as VGG19, DenseNet121, ResNet50, and MobileNetV2. The methodology involves leveraging the deep features extracted by the models to balance content and style in synthesized images. We delve into the specifics of the model's layer utilization, loss function definition, and TensorFlow implementation details. Experimental results demonstrate the model's ability to produce visually compelling images that seamlessly merge content and style characteristics. Densenet121 has demonstrated superior performance compared to the other models in the evaluation. This work not only contributes to the field of NST but also offers a user-friendly TensorFlow framework, fostering further exploration and advancements in the realm of computer vision and image processing. © 2024 IEEE.

Cochlear implants (CIs) are neural prosthetics used to improve hearing performance in patients with severe-to-profound hearing loss. CIs contain an electrode array that is surgically implanted in the patient's cochlea. The position of the array in the cochlea has been shown to be associated with hearing outcomes. In the traditional surgical approach, the surgeon cannot directly visualize the final position of the array in the cochlea. Thus, due to wide variability in cochlear anatomy, the arrays are often poorly positioned. Our lab has previously proposed an augmented reality surgery system for assisting with CI insertion and improving intra-cochlear positioning. The approach relies on preoperative CT-based planning of the procedure as well as 3D to 2D registration of the plan to the monocular microscope video to facilitate augmented reality overlay. Herein, we hypothesize the epitympanum is an ideal anatomical structure to localize in CT and microscopy to facilitate the 3D to 2D registration. We propose and evaluate an atlas-based method of localizing the epitympanum in 3D CT images as the first step of this registration pipeline. This method builds upon our previously proposed DABS-MS framework, a 3D self-supervised U-Net-based network for accurate atlas-based segmentation. We propose a new tissue-based loss function for further improvement. The weakly supervised method achieved median 95th percentile Hausdorff distances of 0.3786 mm on 15 test cases with ground truth and showed significant improvement when compared to the self-supervised method. These results demonstrate the promise of the method for use in augmented reality-assisted cochlear implantation. © 2025 SPIE

This research study intends to automate the manual pan evaporimeter system and scheduling irrigation by considering soil water content and crop evapotranspiration. Automating the pan evaporimeter means performing tasks without human intervention, such as measuring the daily water evaporation amount, calculating and storing data, and refilling the pan with water. A waterproof ultrasonic sensor was used to measure the water evaporation amount. The ultrasonic sensor was installed on an innovatively designed structure facing the pan's water surface. The sensor measured the distance between the water surface and the sensor. The surface level decreased as the water evaporated over time, which caused an increment in the distance between the ultrasonic and water surfaces. By this, the sensor calculated the daily evaporation amount. The pan needed to be refilled when all water evaporated;a submersible pump was used to refill the pan automatically. A relay switch controlled the pump, and a microcontroller turned on the switch based on sensor value. The entire setup was IoT-enabled to monitor and control the system remotely on a mobile device. The entire system was backed up by solar energy to run on clean energy. A solenoid valve was used to control the flow of irrigation water. Pan evaporation estimated the amount of water that could be lost owing to evaporation and transpiration. Soil moisture sensors provided a direct measurement of the amount of water present in the soil. The two combined generated a dynamic and responsive irrigation plan that maximized water use and promoted the healthy development of crops. That approach was used. The ultrasonic sensor accurately measured water evaporation, but the installation process was complex. So, a need arises to develop a simple system or scale-type sensors to overcome the complexity. © 2024 IEEE.

Single object tracking in satellite videos has recently gained a lot of attention in the field of computer vision. Although the satellite images are very informative, the small size of the objects and limited spatial and temporal resolution might make object tracking difficult and inaccurate. In this paper, we propose a method for accurately tracking small objects in satellite videos. In the initial phase, we applied the Fast Super-Resolution Convolutional Neural Network (FSRCNN), a deep learning-based super-resolution technique, to enhance the resolution of the frames. This procedure serves to sharpen the details and features of the objects, resulting in a clearer representation. The main contribution, however, lies in our incorporation of a robust motion detection technique into our framework, marking a significant step forward in this study. The motion detection approach combines various methods and operations with the primary goal of making moving objects distinctly visible and easily distinguishable from the complex image background. This enhancement significantly contributes to the precision and accuracy of the tracking system. We combined both approaches with Fully Convolutional Siamese Network (SiamFC) due to its robustness in tracking processes across frames in videos, capacity to handle changes in target appearance, and ability to deal with small datasets. The Satellite Video Single Object Tracking (SatSOT) and SV248A10-SOT (SV248S), two satellite video single object tracking datasets, were used to evaluate the proposed approach. When the techniques were applied, the SatSOT dataset showed an 11% precision score increase and a 10% success rate improvement. The SV248S dataset exhibited even more significant improvements, with precision scores increasing by 18% and success scores rising by 9%. © 2024 IEEE.

Securing the vast volumes of data exchanged over networks is crucial in IoT (Internet of Things) applications. This study introduces an innovative image encryption algorithm that combines the interactive properties of Cellular Automata (CA) and the Henon map to improve both security and performance. CA, renowned for its simplicity and parallelism, are utilized to produce intricate pseudorandom sequences. These sequences are then used as the keystream for encryption purposes. Whereas, the Henon map is employed to incorporate further levels of unpredictability and intricacy into the encryption procedure. The proposed method is thoroughly assessed through considerable experimentation and is compared with existing methodologies. The findings demonstrate substantial enhancements with respect to various standard metrics such as 'Mean Squared Error (MSE)'., 'Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR)'., 'Unified Average Changing Intensity (UACI)'., and 'Number of Pixels Change Rate (NPCR)' measurements., underscoring the resilience and efficacy of the proposed methodology. The results emphasize the capability of this hybrid method to offer a secure and robust performance for image encryption in IoT applications. This method guarantees the integrity and confidentiality of data while outperforming current encryption techniques in performance. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents a robust discrete nonlinear active disturbance rejection controller (NADRC) for precise actuator position control in a highly nonlinear and uncertain pneumatic system. The discrete NADRC features a nonlinear extended state observer (NESO) and a feedback controller, which together estimate and compensate for unknown system dynamics and external disturbances, ensuring robustness. The controller was implemented on a pneumatic actuator in Parker Hannifin’s motion control lab. Experimental tests confirmed its tracking performance and robustness. The stability of the positioning control systems is proved using a Lyapunov method. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper investigates the impact of different earthing methods on overvoltage within modular multilevel Voltage Source Converter (MMC VSC) based Direct Current (DC) transmission and distribution grids, particularly in meshed multi-terminal (MTDC) configurations. A bipolar MTDC grid is modelled and simulated in PSCAD/EMTDC to investigate the influence of earthing on midpoint overvoltages. The transient response of the grid under DC fault scenarios is analysed through various case-studies, including solid earthing placement, variations in earthing impedance, and the application of surge arresters. The findings show the critical role of earthing in mitigating overvoltage, with low-resistive earthing options proving to be the most effective trade-off. © 2024 IEEE.
