Demand side management (DSM) applications rely on the exchange of load profiles to effectively manage the operation of energy systems. However, sharing detailed energy profile data raises substantial privacy concerns, such as potential misuse of personal information. To mitigate these concerns, we investigate the potential of time aggregation (TA), which involves merging multiple samples of a profile into a single value representing multiple intervals. TA reduces data exchange and computational requirements in energy management and helps preserve user privacy by reducing granularity of user data. We show that, for an effective implementation of TA in energy management, it is important to make the right choice of TA method. We compare and evaluate seven different TA methods. Furthermore, we perform TA across various time frames using an optimization based DSM approach. Our findings reveal that if we aggregate load profiles from 15 minutes to 4 hours, we obtain both enhanced privacy and a 21% decrease in the required number of iterations with the investigated DSM method, albeit at the cost of a 15% decrease in objective value performance. Based on this, we conclude that depending on the application needs, TA with a carefully selected aggregation method has the potential to bring value to energy management, even when aggregating to a considerable extent. ©2024 IEEE.

The use of inverter-based motor controllers that can generate fast voltage level transitions is increasing in the field of electric drive systems because of their ability to achieve higher efficiency. However, the fast voltage transitions, dv/dt's, are prone to generate bearing currents and cause overvoltages that may harm the electric motor. An LC filter applied between the inverter and the motor terminals can reduce the dv/dt's. However, the LC filter will cause overvoltage due to resonance but this can be overcome by introducing an extra pulse at each pulse-width modulation (PWM) transition. The timing of this extra pulse is crucial for suppressing the resonance, but due to nonlinearities in a real system, the time instants may vary over time and are thus in need of control. In this study, an analytical expression for the optimal pulse location and duration is derived and we propose a control algorithm that continuously calculates the optimal pulse switch time instants based on the measured output voltage. The control algorithm can handle sudden system disturbances and a Monte Carlo simulation is performed to evaluate the performance of the algorithm. This hybrid filter successfully reduces dv/dt's at the motor terminals while simultaneously eliminating overvoltages due to the filter resonance. © 2024 IEEE.

The widespread increase of photovoltaic panels in the distribution grid often leads to overvoltage. Traditional voltage regulation techniques are unfair for prosumers at the sensitive part of the grid due to larger power curtailment. Consequently, there has been considerable research on implementing fair curtailment strategies for congestion management. However, existing fairness-incorporated curtailment approaches yield varying results based on changes in the grid topology and integration of renewable energy sources. Therefore, this paper introduces proportional voltage fairness that is independent of the above-mentioned network properties and inherently distinguishes regions for fair curtailment. Additionally, there is a need to consider the underutilisation of the grid while adhering to a fair curtailment scheme. Thus this paper proposes a control algorithm incorporating proportional voltage fairness and gives the opportunity to specify the trade-off between fairness and the total power curtailed. Further, a comparative analysis with respect to state-of-the-art notions of fairness is performed. ©2024 IEEE.

Considering the advancements in autonomous driving technologies, the necessity for an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) to incorporate a multitude of sensors for enhanced precision has become paramount. Consequently, the increase of sensors correlates directly with the escalation of autonomous driving capabilities. However, this escalation causes a larger volume of data traffic and an increase in the latency within the in-vehicle network (IVN). As the IVN latency increases, the overall latency of ADAS from the sensor to the actuator increases. This increased latency can affect the safety of ADAS. Hence, latency analysis for various sensors is required. In this paper, we struct Ethernet-based zonal architecture considered for future automotive architecture and analyze the factor of end-to-end latency for the safety-related ADAS with multi-type sensors, including IVN latency. © 2024 IEEE.

Consider learning the shared representations from multiple unlabeled views. Previous work either projects different views to the same space while enforcing the agreement among the projected views such as multiview canonical correlation analysis (MCCA), or factorizes different views while ensuring the common latent components across the views such as PARAFAC2, a tensor decomposition method. In this paper we first investigate a fundamental question: 'Do these two approaches learn different representations?' Preliminary numerical results suggest that in practice they do, which, in turn, begs the question of how we can leverage this observation in order to compute a superior representation. In this paper, we present a simple proof-of-concept scheme which augments MCCA with PARAFAC2 representations and vice-versa, and we demonstrate on multiple real datasets that such scheme can improve upon the baseline representation, paving the way for future research on optimally combining the strengths of projection and factorization methods for multiview representation learning. © 2024 IEEE.

With the advancements in graph neural network (GNN), there has been increasing interest in applying GNN to electrocardiogram (ECG) analysis. In this study, we generated an adjacency matrix using correlation matrix of extracted ECG features and applied a GNN to classify arrhythmias. Our work was compared with existing approaches from the literature. The results demonstrated that precision and recall for all arrhythmia classes exceeded 50%, suggesting that proposed method can be considered an approach for arrhythmia classification. © 2024 IEEE.

Lithium-ion batteries are being utilized as energy sources for electric vehicles due to their advantages such as high energy density, long life, and high efficiency. In order to ensure the safe condition of lithium-ion batteries under various driving conditions of electric vehicles, it is necessary to analyze the degradation status and causes of lithium-ion batteries and accurately estimate their state of health (SOH). Therefore, this paper proposes a method for estimating the SOH of lithium-ion batteries using incremental capacity analysis and deep learning. Incremental capacity analysis is a technique that analyzes the electrochemical state inside a lithium-ion battery and can identify the degradation state of the battery. Through this method, parameters related to degradation were extracted, and their usefulness as characteristic parameters for SOH estimation was verified by correlation analysis. The characteristic parameters validated through correlation analysis were used as inputs to deep learning algorithms for SOH estimation to compare the accuracy of SOH estimation by different estimation algorithms. © 2024 Korean Institute of electrical Engineers. Kidney stones represent a significant global health concern, frequently causing individuals to seek immediate medical care due to intense pain. Radiological imaging modalities are one of the most common modes of diagnosis, but specialist interpretation is always important for accuracy. In this paper, we present computer vision in an automated kidney stone detection system that involves five stages: loading the dataset, preprocessing data, loading the InceptionV3 model, predicting, and evaluating performance. Various methods of preprocessing and data augmentation were utilized to make the model less biased and more robust. This study uses the InceptionV3 architecture to classify kidney stones in CT scan images of KUB (Kidney, Ureter, and Bladder). We utilize a total dataset of 433 participants, either diagnosed with kidney stones or in a normal state. 278 cases are diagnosed with kidney stones, and 165 are normal cases. The proposed approach achieved an impressive 98.55% accuracy across performance metrics when evaluated on an independent test dataset. © 2024 IEEE.

Optical Head-Mounted Displays (OHMDs) allow users to read digital content while walking. A better understanding of how users allocate attention between these two tasks is crucial for improving OHMD interfaces. This paper introduces a computational model for simulating users' attention switches between reading and walking. We model users' decision to deploy visual attention as a hierarchical reinforcement learning problem, wherein a supervisory controller optimizes attention allocation while considering both reading activity and walking safety. Our model simulates the control of eye movements and locomotion as an adaptation to the given task priority, design of digital content, and walking speed. The model replicates key multitasking behaviors during OHMD reading while walking, including attention switches, changes in reading and walking speeds, and reading resumptions. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s)

For carbon neutrality, many countries are increasing the rate of renewable energy-based distributed generators (DGs). The DG has advantages such as voltage drop compensation and power loss reduction. However, reverse current flows and overvoltage phenomenons occur due to the penetration of DGs. DGs have different output characteristics from synchronous generators, so when DGs penetrate the grid, DGs inevitably affect the power flow and power quality of the grid. Therefore, it is necessary to check transient stability when DGs penetrate the power system. In this study, the IEEE 9-bus system, a looped system, was set as a testbed. In addition, inverter-based photovoltaic (PV) systems were used as an example of DGs. And the critical frequency limitation time was determined according to the penetration level of DGs. This study also checked the effect of reducing frequency variations through specific methodology of the PV system. Events such as fault occurrence, switch opening, fault clearing, and switch closing were set. And all the simulations for the transient analysis were conducted through DIgSILENT Power Factory.
