Power quality disturbances, such as voltage flicker and harmonic distortions, are introduced to the utility power system due to the stochastic and nonlinear operation of an electric arc furnace. In order to analyze the voltage flicker and harmonic distortions produced by furnace operation, precise models of electric arc furnaces are necessary. In this paper, the PQ issues in utility power systems that supply an arc furnace load are examined using a variety of arc furnace models, limit curves, and manual calculation techniques. Classification of models typically relies on the time domain and frequency domain methods. For the purpose of analyzing flicker and harmonic content, ten models of an arc furnace selected using the time domain method are analyzed. Simulations are conducted, and the results obtained are utilized to compare the various arc furnace models in terms of voltage flicker and harmonic content. Recommendations pertaining to the practical implementation of these models are also provided. © 2024 IEEE.

Gate bias stress can change the threshold voltage of amorphous indium gallium zinc oxide (a-IGZO) thin-film transistor (TFT). Especially, short-term degradation of threshold voltage should be compensated since it causes motion artifacts in the display. Therefore, a new short-term degradation model was proposed based on the stretched-exponential model. Moreover, the accuracy of the proposed model was confirmed by calculating the coefficient of determination between the measured data and the fitted data. Modern web services must meet critical non-functional requirements such as availability, responsiveness, scalability, and reliability, which are formalized through Service Level Agreements (SLAs). These agreements specify Service Level Objectives (SLOs), which define performance targets like uptime, latency, and throughput, essential for ensuring consistent service quality. Failure to meet SLOs can result in penalties and reputational damage. Service providers also face the challenge of avoiding over-provisioning resources, as this leads to unnecessary costs and inefficient resource use. To address this, autoscaling mechanisms dynamically adjust the number of service replicas to match user demand. However, traditional autoscaling solutions typically rely on low-level metrics (e.g., CPU or memory usage), making it difficult for providers to optimize both SLOs and infrastructure costs. This paper proposes an enhanced autoscaling methodology for containerized workloads in Kubernetes clusters, integrating SLOs with a cost-driven autoscaling policy. This approach overcomes the limitations of conventional autoscaling by making more efficient decisions that balance service-level requirements with operational costs, offering a comprehensive solution for managing containerized applications and their infrastructure in Kubernetes environments. The results, obtained by evaluating a prototype of our system in a testbed environment, show significant advantages over the vanilla Kubernetes Horizontal Pod Autoscaler. In today's changing world incorporating Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, into maintenance strategies is seen as a crucial innovation to improve business operations. This study delves into the use of driven maintenance systems and their notable impact on enhancing business efficiency cutting costs and ensuring operational dependability. By making use of real time data from sensors and devices these systems can predict equipment failures in advance reducing downtime and prolonging the lifespan of vital assets. The study provides a look at how maintenance strategies have evolved over time the technology behind powered predictive maintenance and how it revolutionizes business processes. The insights gathered from case studies and analysis of current executions reveals how business have transformed and achieved enhancement in operations. The paper also reflects challenges with their related solutions and suggested strategies to solve them. The findings show that implementing IoT for maintenance is not a technology hop but a necessity for companies struggling to stay in today's competitive market. In addition to this it investigates developments and possible innovations in this area emphasizing the evolvement and rising significance of IoT, in the upkeep of business industry. In this paper, a Genetic Algorithm is used to solve the path planning problem for autonomous mobile robots in static environments. The goal of the path planning problem is to find a valid and practical path between two points while avoiding obstacles and optimizing a number of criteria including path length, safety, and distance from obstacles. A quality function is proposed to evaluate the optimization approach for different scenarios. Experimental results show that enhanced solutions can be achieved in less time using optimal values of the search algorithm parameters. © 2023 IEEE.

This study explores the application of a Transformer based model to the 'MovieLens 1M' and 'MovieLens 10M' datasets provided by GroupLens, which includes one million and ten movie ratings. The Transformer model, known for its proficiency in handling sequence-to-sequence tasks, employs multi-head self-attention mechanisms and position-wise feed-forward networks. Our implementation, developed in PyTorch, benefits from its capacity for automatic differentiation and GPU acceleration, which significantly enhances the training efficiency. The model underwent rigorous hyperparameter tuning and optimization to adapt optimally to the characteristics of the dataset. Performance evaluation using the Normalized Discounted Cumulative Gain (NDCG) metric demonstrates that the Transformer model substantially outperforms a conventional popular recommendation system across various top-K rankings. Specifically, for the MovieLens 1M dataset, the Transformer model achieved NDCG scores of 0.0455, 0.0805, 0.0995, and 0.1273 at top 1, 3, 5, and 10, respectively. Comparatively, the popular recommendation system scored 0.0023, 0.0044, 0.0061, and 0.0091 at these same rankings. This trend of superior performance by the Transformer model is also consistent across the MovieLens 10M dataset, further confirming its effectiveness in ranking highly relevant items at the top of the list. Also, to address quality and utility of recommendations, MAP, Precision, Recall, F1 Score, Coverage and Serendipity metrics evaluated. These results underscore the effectiveness of Transformer models in extracting and leveraging complex patterns in sequence data, demonstrating a clear superiority over traditional methods in recommendation systems. This study highlights the potential of deep learning architectures to revolutionize fields reliant on understanding user preferences and sequential data interactions. © 2024 IEEE.

In recent years, deep neural networks have successfully solved artificial intelligence problems. However, large models need more memory and computational resources. Recent research has proved that the deep models are over-parameterized and have redundancy in their parameterization. The lottery ticket hypothesis paper by Frankle and Carbin offers that based on pruning, we can achieve subnetworks with initializations that are capable of training from scratch. Still, they have used unstructured pruning, and the resulting architectures are sparse that need special hardware/software for compression and speedup. On the other hand, structured pruning methods in the convolutional neural networks (CNNs) preserved the structure of the convolution layers. Therefore, we do not need special hardware/software (HW/SW) libraries. In this work, we examined the lottery ticket hypothesis with structured pruning techniques and used these methods with different architectures. © 2023 IEEE.

Electronic health records (EHRs) are the comprehensive digital records containing patient health information, which help in various domains like public health monitoring, predictive modeling, data-driven research, etc. However, there are strict regulations about data sharing due to the sensitivity of the EHR data. So, there is an increasing demand for generating high-quality synthetic EHR data that mitigates privacy concerns. Most of the existing approaches to EHR generation are limited as they predominantly generate binary decisions about affecting a disease or count-based summaries of disease occurrences for a patient, failing to capture the full patient trajectory contained in the real data and hence reducing the downstream applications. With the success of language models in generative approaches, we propose a language modeling approach using transformers to generate the complete health record of a patient for each admission. We propose to group the patient's EHRs as it enhances the model to capture temporal coherence and the medical history of the corresponding patient. The proposed model can generate high-fidelity privacy preserved EHR data with the statistical properties of the real data. © 2024 IEEE.

Advancements in human-computer interaction (HCI) and machine learning are seen as key avenues to help individuals living with upper limb disabilities in accomplishing their activities of daily living. Multi-channel myoelectric systems are a promising approach for HCI due to their intuitive and accurate capture of user intent through muscle activity. However, such systems are still bulky compared to widely accepted smartwatches-like devices and as such pose a challenge for seamless integration into daily life. Consequently, this work presents the first single-site EMG-IMU-PPG system for multi-gesture recognition from the wrist. Overall, when evaluated on eight able-bodied participant, the system achieves an average accuracy of 65.28%±10.45% on 17 finger and wrist gestures and 90.98%±5.65% on eight hand gestures. This study also introduces "Myo Hero", an online environment inspired by "Guitar Hero."Myo Hero provides a dynamic method for testing multi-gesture recognition systems, improving the evaluation process's appeal. Online evaluation of the multimodal system substantially outperformed random play, signifying EMG-IMU-PPG's potential for human-computer interaction. © 2024 IEEE.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) significantly impacts patient quality of life and is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. This paper introduces an innovative algorithm for diagnosing acid-base disorders in COPD patients, incorporating traditional and advanced methodologies like the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation and Bedside Stewart Method. The algorithm enhances the accuracy and speed of Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) analysis, crucial for COPD management. We present a comprehensive approach that includes a Gamblegram for visualizing acid-base balance and a sophisticated system architecture employing Optical Character Recognition (OCR) for efficient ABG report processing. Our findings demonstrate the algorithm's efficacy in providing rapid, detailed analysis, markedly reducing treatment initiation time. This advancement holds significant potential in revolutionizing COPD patient care by improving diagnostic accuracy and treatment strategies for acid-base disorders. © 2024 IEEE.
