Water quality prediction methods forecast the future short or long-term trends of its changes, providing proactive advice for water pollution prevention and control. Existing water quality prediction methods only consider the historical data of single-type or multi-type water quality. However, meteorology and other factors also have a significant impact on water quality indicators. Therefore, only considering the historical data of water quality is not feasible. Unlike existing studies, this work proposes a hybrid water quality prediction model called CMI to solve the above problem. Before prediction, CMI incorporates a multimodal fusion mechanism of water quality time series and remote sensing images of meteorological rainfall. Moreover, CMI integrates the model of ConvNeXt V2 and a multimodal bottleneck transformer to extract image features for fusing the time series and images. Furthermore, it utilizes an emerging model of iTransformer to realize prediction with the fused features. Experimental results with real-life water quality time series and remotely sensed rainfall images demonstrate that CMI outperforms other state-of-the-art fusion algorithms, and the water quality prediction accuracy with fused meteorological data is 13% higher on average than that with only water quality time series. © 2024 IEEE.

The aim of this study is to develop an automatic system that uses deep learning techniques to detect cervical spine fractures from medical images. Using a DICOM (Digital imaging and communications in medicine) images of cervical spine, the system can identify a fracture and specify which vertebrae has a fracture. This process involves first processing provided DICOM images, then applying data augmentation techniques including metadata information, finally designing neural network architecture for feature extraction. We use a method called transfer learning, utilizing a pre-trained model like EfficientNet, which is used for feature extraction, while optimizing network parameters using AdanW optimizer and CosineAnnealingWarmup learning rate scheduler. The results demonstrate the successful training of neural network models to identify fracture and that fractured vertebrae, with commendable performance and accuracy level noted during evaluation on validation data. This study has important implications for medical imaging and healthcare industries, since automated fracture detection can increase diagnostic efficiency and accuracy. Moreover, such a system would provide good support to healthcare professionals, specifically radiologists, to identify cervical spine fracture easily. © 2024 IEEE.

It all begun by the early 1970s through, the work of Stephen Wiesner and Gilles Brassard, who introduced the concept of quantum conjugate coding, and it has now stretched to a level where today's agile communication systems constitute a substantial challenge for data security and safety. A number of research has been performed to achieve secure communication among legitimate parties in which QKD (Quantum Key Distribution) is prominent. Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), also called Quantum Cryptography, enables two communicating parties to share secret cryptographic keys with security that is theoretically guaranteed by the laws of quantum mechanics, assuming ideal conditions. However, practical implementations may be vulnerable to certain attacks, and the security of QKD can be compromised by imperfections in hardware, side-channel attacks, or limitations in real-world setups. In a practical QKD setup, two stations send and receive encoded quantum particles and some classical information. The most rudimentary and well-known QKD protocol is BB84, developed by Bennet and Brassard in 1984. We have developed the simulation and achieved the secret shared key with and without an intruder. © 2024 IEEE.

Large aperture arrays improve communication performance with higher gain, but are susceptible to limited spatial coherence of signals, especially in shallow water acoustic environments. An acoustic communication receiver's ability to combine the signal wavefront coherently degrades when there are losses across the array in either phase coherence or the ability to track phase variation. To mitigate such coherence issues, the array can be separated into smaller segments of sensors known as subapertures. The phase variations can be tracked and mitigated on each subaperture. Subsequently, each subaperture can be coherently combined to realize the full array gain, through this two-stage process. However, subaperture size selection remains an open problem, especially in dynamic, uncertain environments like those experienced in underwater acoustic communications. In this paper, a universal algorithm is proposed for realizing the performance of the best possible partitioning among a collection of partitions of the receiver into subapertures, such that the overall receiver performance is as good as if the best partitioning were known a priori. This work builds on previous work in universal adaptive filtering and beamforming. © 2024 IEEE.

This research is primarily focused on addressing the increasing worldwide demands for energy while minimizing environmental impact by developing renewable and efficient energy alternatives. The objective of this research is to examine and enhance the progress of a tandem solar cell that possesses thermal stability, cost-effectiveness, and exceptional efficiency in power generation. Chalcogenide materials are highly regarded as promising choices for the sub cells in tandem configurations. Copper Indium Disulfide (CuInS 2) is regarded as the upper sub cell, whereas Copper Manganese Tin Sulfide (CMTS) is chosen as the lower sub cell, ensuring appropriate alignment of their bandgaps. The work utilizes comprehensive modelling and optimization approaches through SCAPS-1D software to identify a highly promising combination, namely CuInS I N O2 CMTS, which achieves remarkable power conversion efficiency of 38.03%, excellent thermal stability of - 0. 0 6 7 % °C, a short circuit current of 20.94 mA/cm2, an open circuit voltage of 2. 2 0 8 V, and a fill factor of 8 2. 2 3 %. During single cell simulation, for top and bottom cell, PCE was 18.34% and 2 6. 2 % respectively. Short circuit current in top, bottom and tandem cells was 20.91 mA/cm2, 20.93 mA/cm2, 20.94 mA/cm2 respectively, which ensures current matching of these cells. During the designing, working temperature was maintained at 300K. Tandem solar cells, which exceed single-junction performances in both stability and efficiency, are widely acknowledged to be essential in determining the development of solar energy in the future. This research significantly contributes to the current attempts to pioneer novel and economically feasible solar technology using a paradigmatic approach. It has enormous implications for global energy sustainability projects. © 2024 IEEE.

The advent of smart manufacturing in Industry 4.0 signifies the arrival of the era of connections. As an excellent communication protocol, Object linking and embedding for Process Control Unified Architecture (OPC UA) can address most semantic heterogeneity issues. However, its semantics are not formally defined at the application layer. To address the information silo problem caused by semantic heterogeneity, a method named Querying of Ontology Mapping-based OPC UA (QOMOU) is proposed. It extracts the information models of OPC UA servers into resource description framework triples, utilizes web ontology language for semantic enrichment and inference, and employs a semantic similarity model for event ontology mapping to improve query efficiency. The method's effectiveness is validated through functional queries using the SPARQL protocol in Apache Jena. The query efficiency is 5% higher on average compared to both structured query and extensible markup languages. Moreover, by employing a keyword-matching algorithm, the query accuracy of the existing heterogeneous data integration scheme is improved by 4% on average. This enhancement can boost the operational efficiency of Internet of Things systems based on the OPC UA architecture. © 2024 IEEE.

5G brings many improvements to cellular networks in terms of performance, such as lower latency, improved network efficiency, and higher throughput, making it an attractive candidate for many applications. One such domain is industrial applications that may require real-time guarantees to transmit time-critical control messages. Assuming the immense number of devices exchanging data in support of Massive Machine-Type Communications (mMTC) applications, the capability of the cellular infrastructure to handle a large number of real-time transmissions may be inadequate. For such cases, there exists an acute desire to reduce any overheads as much as possible in order to guarantee certain deadlines. One such target is the Domain Name System (DNS) service, for which queries precede almost every new network request. This incorporates additional communication delays based on the response time, which in turn is affected by the proximity of the DNS server. While bringing DNS service to the edge has been touted as a logical solution, its integration with 5G systems is still challenging. This is due to the inability to access the DNS query information at the application layer since the User Equipment (UE) traffic is tunneled through to the core network. To this end, we propose a novel approach that can identify DNS queries at the base stations through Software-Defined Networking (SDN) capabilities. Specifically, we develop an SDN controller which is used to identify and extract DNS queries at the base station and handle the query at the edge without going through the 5G core network. This approach was implemented in a virtualized 5G network, in which we demonstrate that it is feasible and can potentially bring significant performance gains, especially in the case of mMTC applications. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper project an system for reclamation of medical images in an effective way for the extraction and retrieving of data from large archives is critical. This study aims to improve haematological image reclamation by combining visual-based image reclamation (VBIR) approaches with the GLCM algorithm, specifically for characteristics related to the prostate gland. While previous research has focused on computer-aided methods for Gleason grading, our technique focuses on early-stage feature reclamation across 14 paired glands. The experimental findings, including Bicubic Interpolation The resolution Enrichment with a standard deviation of 12.37, kurtosis of 122.83, and skewness of 2.92, demonstrate improved reclamation performance. Our suggested methodology uses a handmade learning approach that includes critical components such as GLCM contrast and correlation. This extensive feature extraction step includes descriptors for morphology, texture, fractals, and contextual information, which are then subjected to in-dept. statistical analysis to identify significant features. Using an RNN, our technique improves performance somewhat but significantly when compared to alternatives, with time required for execution offering insights into the intricate interaction of stages and the effect of sample variability. These findings not only encourage more research, but also help to advance standard reviews in haematological analysis of images. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Power quality disturbances, such as voltage flicker and harmonic distortions, are introduced to the utility power system due to the stochastic and nonlinear operation of an electric arc furnace. In order to analyze the voltage flicker and harmonic distortions produced by furnace operation, precise models of electric arc furnaces are necessary. In this paper, the PQ issues in utility power systems that supply an arc furnace load are examined using a variety of arc furnace models, limit curves, and manual calculation techniques. Classification of models typically relies on the time domain and frequency domain methods. For the purpose of analyzing flicker and harmonic content, ten models of an arc furnace selected using the time domain method are analyzed. Simulations are conducted, and the results obtained are utilized to compare the various arc furnace models in terms of voltage flicker and harmonic content. Recommendations pertaining to the practical implementation of these models are also provided. © 2024 IEEE.

Gate bias stress can change the threshold voltage of amorphous indium gallium zinc oxide (a-IGZO) thin-film transistor (TFT). Especially, short-term degradation of threshold voltage should be compensated since it causes motion artifacts in the display. Therefore, a new short-term degradation model was proposed based on the stretched-exponential model. Moreover, the accuracy of the proposed model was confirmed by calculating the coefficient of determination between the measured data and the fitted data.
