Conventional agricultural fields are sprayed uniformly to control weeds, insects, and diseases. To reduce cultivation expenses, to produce healthier food and to create more environmentally friendly farms, chemicals should only be applied to the right place at the right time and exactly with the right amount. In this article, a task and motion planning for a team of autonomous vehicles to reduce chemicals in farming is presented. Field data are collected by small unmanned helicopters equipped with a range of sensors, including multispectral and thermal cameras. Data collected are transmitted to a ground station to be analyzed and triggers aerial and ground-based vehicles to start close inspection and/or plant/weed treatment in specified areas. A complete trajectory is generated to enable ground-based vehicle to visit infested areas and start chemical/mechanical weed treatment.

The world is largely interested in the new regenerative energy development as the alternative of the high oil prices and especially, the wind generation is gaining a large fame as a newly developing power among the new regenerative energy sources. Currently, Korea is building onshore wind farms in many areas and the number is expected to increase. The designed lifespan of the wind generator is over 20 years as required by the international regulations, but Korea has very little information on the grades of the wind generators. This study performed the research on the safety levels of wind generators using the measured data in the West Coast of Korea. The targeted areas are 4 sites on the west coast and the Met mast is installed for the future offshore wind farms. The data were accumulated for a year and the safety level of the wind turbine was set based on the international regulation of IEC 61400-1. The turbulence intensity analysis was carried out based on the values and equations selected by IEC 61400-1 and the actual data while the extreme wind speeds were analyzed using the Gumbel distribution. As a result, the WangDeungYeo area was Class II-C, DaeNoNokDo area was Class III-C, BiGeumDo area was Class III-C, and Jukdo are was Class III-C. When the offshore wind farms are established in the future, this will be provided as the basic data for the wind turbine selection.

This paper analyzes the relationship between macro block (MB) modes and dept. values in multiview video plus dept. (MVD) format, and proposed a dept. based mode decision algorithm for 3D video coding. The dept. information was utilized to determine the final mode decision process. The experimental results show the proposed algorithm can reduce the complexity of the mode decision process remarkably while maintaining nearly the same rate distortion performance.

In this paper, the problem of forest fire is considered and a comprehensive system is proposed with the use of wireless sensor network for real-time forest fire detection. The wireless sensor network can give more accurate detection of forest fire danger rate over traditional monitoring approaches like lookout towers and satellite based monitoring. This proposed framework mainly describes the data collection from designed data acquisition system and then its classification. The wireless transmission of sensor node data is done using BTBee module. Also artificial neural networks (ANN) approach, i.e. support vector machine (SVM) is applied for classification of collected data. Classification accuracy is evaluated and compared for various Kernel functions including multilayer perceptron (MLP), polynomial, quadratic and radial basis function (RBF).

This paper presents a novel algorithm for the numerical computation of fractional-order derivatives, based on a suitable generalization of a sliding-mode based robust and exact first-order differentiator (see Levant (1998)). The method inherits the robustness properties against the measurement noise of the original scheme. The algorithm is first devised in the continuous time setting, leading to a block scheme where conventional and fractional order integrators are suitably combined in a closed loop configuration containing certain “stabilizing” static non-linearities as well. All integrators are discretized by an algorithm of the Adams-Bashforth-Moulton type (cfr. Diethelm et al, (2004)) yielding an overall discrete time form of the proposed fractional differentiator. The algorithm is then applied to derive a discretized implementation formula for the PI λ D μ controller. Simulation and experimental tests are carried out to verify the performance of the proposed algorithm and to compare it with other existing approaches.

Differential power processing (DPP) isolated-port architecture with submodule integrated converters (subMICs) enables improved energy capture in photovoltaic (PV) power systems. This paper describes a control scheme for flyback subMICs operating in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM). The duty-cycle is driven in proportion to a voltage error, with no further processing, thus eliminating the need to measure or to control the current explicitly. The approach is well suited for very simple, analog PWM controller implementation, but the resulting control loops become nonlinear. The system stability is demonstrated using the Lyapunov stability theorem. Experimentally measured module-level efficiency is greater than 95% for a 72-cell PV module having 3 substrings with solar irradiation of 80%, 60% and 40%, respectively.
