Minimum changes bandwidth allocation (MCBA) is an optimal video transmission scheme resulting in the minimum number of rate changes with the minimum peak rate, which can reduce renegotiation frequency in statistical multiplexing service. The existing MCBA algorithm with searching frontiers, however, has a high computational complexity, which depressed the applicability of MCBA. In this paper, we design a fast algorithm of MCBA that examines for the bounded point based on the convex envelopes of the overflow and underflow curve. As a result, our algorithm can work out an MCBA scheme in a shorter time because we can find the bounded point with a linear complexity, and calculate each transmission rate within several iterations. The simulation using real video traces confirmed the philosophy and efficiency of our algorithm.

Destination choice, especially shopping-destination choice always has a very large number of alternatives. Estimating such model from the entire population can be very expensive or impossible. By using the real survey data from Dallas-Forth Worth (DFW) area, this project estimates the same empirical shopping-destination choice using different sampling levels and examines the differences in parameter estimates, model fit, etc. A simple (only four explanatory variables) empirical specification with total travel time (TotTime=IVTT+OVTT) to location, retail employment at destination (RetEmp), origin destination adjacent indicator (Adjacent), destination zone high retail employment indicator (HighRet) is used to examine the effect of the sample size on model performance for an MNL model. The final results show a sample size of 50 always generate pretty good estimations for the continuous variables (TotTime and RetEmp), however for the binary variables (Adjacent and HighRet), there is no a fixed correctly sampling size existed. It is encouraging that trail and error process need to be applied to get satisfying results.

this paper is concerned with a method for designing Quantum-based Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy System with (QANFS) a TSK fuzzy type based on the fuzzy granulation. Here we develop a systematic approach to generating automatic fuzzy rules based on fuzzy subtractive quantum clustering that is an extension of ideas inherent to scale-space clustering and support-vector clustering. Moreover, we develop Linear Regression (LR)-QANFS as an incremental model to deal with localized nonlinearities of the system so that all modeling discrepancies can be compensated. After adopting the construction of the LR as the first global model, we refined it through a series of local fuzzy if-then rules in order to capture the remaining localized characteristics. The experimental results revealed that the proposed LR-QANFS showed a better performance in comparison with radial basis function networks and the linguistic model for a coagulant dosing process in a water purification plant.

We present an Enhanced Independent Component Analysis (EICA) and its application to three-dimensional (3D) object recognition. In general, Independent Component Analysis (ICA) involves unsupervised learning and high-order statistics. We develop an enhancement of the generic ICA by augmenting this method by the Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA). The EICA is systematically developed on its underlying two architectures and cosine similarity. We demonstrate that the presented approach leads to the formation of well-separated classes in low dimension subspace and is endowed with a great deal of insensitivity to large variation in direction of 3D object images. The comprehensive experiments are completed for the COIL 3D object database with 100 classes. The experimental results reveal that EICA comes with improved classification rates when compared with some other conventional approaches such as PCA and ICA.

An efficient distributed algorithm for mobile nodes of wireless sensor network (WSN) is proposed. A smart mobile robot is designed as the special node of WSN, and the nodes of WSN are deployed in the environment as signposts for the robot to follow. We use the RSSI value between the robot and other static nodes as the input of the navigation control system. The mobile robot state and navigation space are denoted by the RSSI potential field. Navigation directions are computed by using fuzzy logic method. To reduce the communication expense, each node within one hop communication range of robot is a distributed navigation unites. Then the fuzzy logic control centre will collect the control outputs from every beacon nodes and calculate the final outputs for mobile robot based on data fusion. The experimental results confirm that the navigation system based on WSN successfully achieved their assigned tasks.

A comprehensive approach to the input/output analysis of a class of second-order sliding mode control (2-SMC) systems is developed. Linear SISO plants with the “generalized suboptimal” 2-SMC algorithm are investigated. It is shown that in order to evaluate the properties of robustness against the presence of external perturbations the generalized suboptimal controller can be replaced by a proper constant gain, which is called “equivalent gain”. The approximate DF method, and the theoretically exact LPRS method, are developed for computing the equivalent gain. It results from the presented analysis that the considered algorithm possesses an higher equivalent open-loop gain as compared to the standard relay. A thoroughly discussed worked example confirms the theoretical results and shows the feasibility of the presented procedures.
