This paper analyzes the zero dynamics of three-phase current source inverters fed from a voltage source and connected to a local resistive load or the electrical power grid. The zero dynamics is the remaining dynamics of a system when it exactly meets the control objectives. It is important for understanding the system behaviour, and its limitations, and designing efficacious controllers. The analysis concludes that, when the power source is modelled from its Thévenin equivalent circuit, some stability problems occur in the dc link if the control scheme only tracks the output voltage. The paper includes an alternative nested-loop controller that overcomes the internal dc-current inst.bility. © 2023 IEEE.

Nonlinear optimal control for the 4-DOF underactuated robotic tower crane

Tower cranes find wide use in construction works, in ports and in several loading and unloading procedures met in industry. A nonlinear optimal control approach is proposed for the dynamic model of the 4-DOF underactuated tower crane. The dynamic model of the robotic crane undergoes approximate linearization around a temporary operating point that is recomputed at each time-step of the control method. The linearization relies on Taylor series expansion and on the associated Jacobian matrices. For the linearized state-space model of the system a stabilizing optimal (H-infinity) feedback controller is designed. To compute the controller’s feedback gains an algebraic Riccati equation is repetitively solved at each iteration of the control algorithm. The stability properties of the control method are proven through Lyapunov analysis. The proposed control approach is advantageous because: (i) unlike the popular computed torque method for robotic manipulators, the new control approach is characterized by optimality and is also applicable when the number of control inputs is not equal to the robot’s number of DOFs, (ii) it achieves fast and accurate tracking of reference setpoints under minimal energy consumption by the robot’s actuators, (iii) unlike the popular Nonlinear Model Predictive control method, the article’s nonlinear optimal control scheme is of proven global stability and convergence to the optimum. © 2022, The Author(s).

This paper presents the design of a Proportional-Integral Passivity-based controller (PI-PBC) for a current source inverter feeding a resistive load. Thanks to the definition of a new passive output, the closed-loop system is shown to be globally asymptotically stable. This result solves the internal stability problem reported for these power converters. To robustify the control algorithm, the paper also includes the design of a parameter estimation scheme for the parasitic resistances and the load conductance. Numerical simulations are carried out to validate the control algorithm. The simulation stage compares the behaviour using the averaged model of the power converter and a more realistic switching model, including the three-phase implementation.

This paper presents the design of a complex-valued sliding mode controller for a three-phase current source inverter feeding a resistive load, assuming that an ideal current source models the DC side. Numerical simulations are carried out to validate the control algorithm. The simulation stage compares the ideal sliding mode behaviour and the performance when a discrete time and the three-phase implementation are considered. Finally, the numerical validation includes the performance in front of nonlinear resistors.

With the rapid development of computer technology and the Internet of Things (IoT), a large amount of data containing both healthy and faulty states can be collected from existing devices in factories. However, the usable faulty state data is scarce. Transfer learning makes it possible to train efficient and reliable neural networks with a small number of samples. Domain adaptation, as a branch of transfer learning, can effectively realize knowledge transfer between small sample data. Starting from three subcategories of deep learning-based domain adaptation methods, this article summarizes the latest research achievements and provides insights into future research directions. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, the study aims to evolve a precision model of a Battery charge equalization controller (BCEC) that manage each cell of a lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery, monitoring and balancing by charging and discharging a series-connected Li-ion battery with several cells (n) in electric vehicle (E.V.) applications. An intelligent Sliding mode controller is evolved to activate bidirectional cell switches and regulate a chopper circuit 's direct current (DC-DC flyback converter circuit) with PWM generation. To implement a small-scale BCEC, the model consists of individual models of an E.V., cells of Li-ion battery, a fly-back converter, and a single sliding mode controller (SSMC) for charging and discharging are integrated with n series-connected cells of Li-ion-battery. The BCEC output shows that the cells are operated within a safe range, and the difference in the state of charge (SOC) is maintained to be 0.1%. Comparing the developed BCEC with the existing controllers, with the performance, control algorithm, efficiency, power loss, size, and cost. © 2021 inst.tute of Physics Publishing. State-of-the-art techniques for modeling, analysis and control of three-phase electrical systems belong to the real-valued multi-input/multi-output (MIMO) domain, or to the complex-valued nonlinear single-input/single-output (SISO) domain. In order to complement both domains while simplifying complexity and offering new analysis and design perspectives, this paper introduces the application of geometric algebra (GA) principles to the modeling, analysis and control of three-phase electrical systems. The key contribution for the modeling part is the identification of the transformation that allows transferring real-valued linear MIMO systems into GA-valued linear SISO representations (with independence of having a balanced or unbalanced system). Closed-loop stability analysis in the new space is addressed by using intrinsic properties of GA. In addition, a recipe for designing stabilizing and decoupling GA-valued controllers is provided. Numerical examples illustrate key developments and experiments corroborate the main findings. © 2023, CC BY.

This paper describes quality uniformity inspection of injection molded parts based on 3D laser camera. The shape uniformity of the automotive cooling fan is an important quality control indicator. An algorithm for automatically measuring the groove width and dept. of the injection molded cooling fan is presented and its practicality was evaluated. As result of computer simulation, it was confirmed that the measured two shape parameters of cooling fan can be applied to vision inspection for the classification of defective parts or used as a reliability indicator for quality control.

Pre-processing is a required step for image enhancement. Videoscope image enhancement is a difficult task as the captured images suffer from noise and poor contrast. Contrast enhancement is very important for videoscope image enhancement as it improves the quality of images. Contrast enhancement techniques include histogram equalization, fuzzy processing, Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE), and histogram matching. These techniques are applied to improve the quality of the videoscope images. The hybrid method that contains CLAHE and fuzzy enhancement achieves good results. Simulation results prove a superior performance with higher image quality, higher evaluation metric values, and much more details in images. © 2021 IEEE.
