Comparison of Output Characteristic of Six-Phase Synchronous Motor with Different Winding Configurations and Rotor Shape Variations

In a six-phase system, the difference in phase shift affects the winding factor and the degree of magnetic coupling, which influences the motor performance. However, the phase shift can lead to complex problems in motor design because both the phase shift and the rotor shape affect the performance of the motor. Therefore, the phase shift should be selected by considering its combination with shape parameters. This study analyzed the output characteristics according to the six-phase winding configuration and rotor geometry. The motor type used in this study is a synchronous reluctance motor, and the six-phase winding is classified into three types (Type 1, Type 2, Type 3) based on the phase shift. Afterwards, finite element analysis simulations were conducted by adjusting the values of the rotor shape parameters for each winding type. The result showed that the phase shift has a minimal impact on the rotor shape. Furthermore, analysis of the simulation confirmed that the parameters in the d-axis region are relatively more affected. Therefore, these analysis results can be utilized in future research related to the design of six-phase rotor shapes. Copyright © The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers.

As the proportion of renewable energy sources that are intermittent and variability increases, system uncertainty is increasing, and a probabilistic analysis that can reflect these characteristics is required. In this paper, we propose a method for generating a probablistic wind power generation model using kernel density estimation. The boundary bias problem caused by using kernel density estimation for wind power generation data is eliminated through the boundary correction method, and a bandwidth suitable for the data can be selected through the bandwidth selector. Scenarios were created from probabilistic models made in various ways, and the accuracy of the models was validated by comparing them with real data. As a result, the accuracy was improved when the scenario was created by generating the model directly from the wind power generation data by estimating the kernel density estimation. Faulty meters, billing inaccuracies and fraudulent activity all contribute to the non-technical losses experienced by power utilities. Apart from the intended advantage of billing efficiency, the advent of smart meters for consumption and load profile logging, has made possible the analysis of subscriber data for load balancing and consumer classification, amongst other uses. This study analyses data from smart meters in Malta and develops a method for anomaly detection aiming to identify costumers contributing to non-technical losses. Consumers are grouped into clusters with similar weekly consumption patterns using hierarchical clustering. For each consumer, two novel coefficients are then computed: the Anomaly Coefficient, which measures the divergence in consumption patterns for a consumer from all other member of the same cluster, and the Cluster Change Coefficient, which quantifies the likelihood of a customer to exhibit patterns associated with other clusters. Together these two measures are joined in a single Anomaly Score, thus identifying consumers with highly irregular consumption patterns. © 2023 IEEE.

Magnetic bearing motors are in high demand due to their ability to operate in special environments without mechanical friction and lubrication, effectively avoiding wear and contamination. To overcome the complexity and maximum speed limitations, bearingless PMSMs (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors) have been developed. This study explains the electromagnetic driving principles of bearingless PMSMs based on generation conditions and the components of suspension forces. Furthermore, the permanent magnets arranged on the rotor are designed to alter the magnetic flux distribution using various magnetization patterns. FEA(Finite Element Analysis) was conducted for each model, and the derived results were compared and analyzed. This study investigates the performance of bearingless PMSMs based on different rotor permanent magnet arrangements, and draws a comprehensive conclusion. © The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers.

This paper discusses modeling of on-chip passive devices in cryo-CMOS for quantum computers. To solve scaling problem of quantum computer, frontend IC working at cryogenic environment is a promising technology. There are many reports of frontend IC in 4-K stage in dilution refrigerator, but cryogenic device modeling still has some unclear points. For future fine-tuned circuit design, it is important to establish proper device model in cryogenic environment. This paper focuses on passive devices which are key for analog/RF blocks. In cryogenic environment, the resistivity of metal wire is no longer a constant. Numerical simulations reveals that we need size-dependent and frequency-dependent resistivity for accurate modeling of wire resistance. © 2024 IEEE.

Alzheimer's disease is a long-term illness character-ized by a decline in abilities and the development of dementia. The main objective of this study is to explore the potential of using EEG-based classification for identifying and comprehending Alzheimer's disease in its stages. EEG, which measures brain ac-tivity, offers insights into the functioning of neurons. By applying machine learning techniques to EEG data, we have seen results in distinguishing between individuals with Alzheimer's disease and those without it. For our research, we used a dataset that included EEG recordings from individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal dementia, and healthy individuals for comparison. We extracted Mel coefficients (MFCC) as features and trained our models using decision trees and LightGBM classifiers. To evaluate their effectiveness, we assessed accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and the area under the operating curve (AUC ROC). Our results showed accuracy in differentiating between Alzheimer's patients and healthy individuals, with an 89.3% accuracy rate along with AUC ROC values of 0.989 for the decision tree classifier and 98.64 % and 1.0 for the Igbm classifier, respectively. These findings highlight the potential of combining EEG-based classification with machine learning algorithms for diagnosis and personalized treatment planning for Alzheimer's disease. © 2024 IEEE.

A model describing glitch disturbances is introduced and analysed. The model is used to find the response of glitch disturbances when adding a periodic dither to the input and applying low-pass filtering to the output. This averaged response is used to find a criterion to determine a sufficiently large dither amplitude that will make the averaged glitch disturbances appear as a constant on the output of the low-pass filter. An important resulting property is that the averaged response to glitch disturbances is independent of the model input. By fitting the model to the measured response of a common off-the-shelf digital-to-analogue converter, simulations are used to verify the analytical results. © 2023 IEEE.

In FPS (First Person Shooter) games, there exist problematic cheats called 'aimbots' that automate a player's (i.e., cheater's) aiming actions at enemies. Such cheats have become a social problem because they cause game companies to lose credibility and users to leave the games. With advances in CV (Computer Vision) technology, CV-based cheat tools for FPS games are becoming pervasive. CV-based cheats are more difficult to be detected than cheats that read in-game memory because they use CV to get enemy's positions. This paper proposes a method to avoid CV-based cheats by applying an adversarial patch to each enemy character, and validates the effects of the proposed method on rate of avoiding YOLOv5-based object detection with respect to loR (Intersection over Recognized object's bounding box) instead of IoU (Intersection over Union) for thresholds of mAP (mean-Average Precision). © 2024 IEEE.

Video analysis of sports has become an important means of analyzing the judgment of foul play and performance in matches. Traditionally, most researches have focuses on major sports, but few researches on minor sports have progressed. Therefore, this paper focuses on a minor sport called Kin-Ball and proposes a system for judging fouls in Kin-Ball. One of the fouls in Kin-Ball is called 'downward hits,' which is a foul if the trajectory of the ball is not upward at least once from when the ball is hit and to when the ball hits the ground during an attack to the other team. This foul is a feature that does not exist in other sports, and it is very difficult to judge visually by human referees as well, their decision may be ambiguous. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel system for CNN and LSTM-based predicting the trajectory of the ball in Kin-Ball play video taken with a single camera, and automatically judging 'downward hits' fouls based on its predicted trajectory. © 2024 IEEE.

The commercialization technology of lithium-ion batteries has changed various industrial trends, including e-mobility and shipbuilding industries. In the shipbuilding industry, the ship's electric propulsion system is a system that applies torque and rotational force of an motor to ship's propulsion power, and the capacity of the power system affects ship's operating time and is classified as a major technology. Lithium-ion batteries have many effects in the industry, but they generate heat during the battery charging and discharging process, and the battery temperature is affected by environmental temperature, so a range of controlled temperatures is required. In this paper, the power system of electric propulsion ships is proposed as a module combination, and the maintain temperature range of modules is derived from parallel experiments on temperature and charge and discharge. According to the experimental results, the charging & discharging efficiency and safety of the power supply module can be expected if natural cooling or forced cooling is performed to maintain the temperature of the installation area below 40℃. © The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers.
