This paper proposes the use of Random Linear Network Coding (RLNC) as an erasure code in the forward error correction (FEC) mechanism for Internet telephony. It also designs and implements a forward error correction algorithm applied to the Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP), which we call Adaptive Systematic RLNC (AS-RLNC). The algorithm learns the current packet loss rate of the network through the Real-time Transport Control Protocol (RTCP) and dynamically adjusts the number of redundant packets sent. Compared with traditional forward error correction methods based on block codes, this approach can enhance the reliability of data transmission and improve audio quality by 31%. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper, we define a new problem, called the almost order-preserving matching (aOPM) problem, which is a combined variant of order-preserving matching (OPM) and the longest almost increasing subsequence (LaIS). Given a numeric pattern P, a numeric text string T, and a tolerance constant c) the aOPM problem seeks to find the substring of T that each element has the almost same rank as the corresponding element in P. In an almost increasing sequence, small drops within c are permitted while still maintaining a generally increasing trend. Our algorithm for solving the aOPM problem consists of three stages: fingerprint, almost rank, and bipartite matching. The time complexity of the proposed aOPM algorithm is O(n+k1m m+R+k2m3), where n= T, m= P, R is the number of separation rank combinations, k1 and k2 denote the number of candidate substrings identified in the fingerprint and almost rank stages, respectively. © 2024 IEEE.

The dynamic nature of real estate markets gives rise to huge challenges for buyers and sellers in accurately predicting property prices. This paper presents a detailed study on real estate price predictions, focusing on using machine learning techniques to forecast property prices effectively. Using a dataset from Bengaluru, as a case study, it explored the intricacies of Real Estate markets and developed a predictive model to estimate the property prices. Our studies consist of data preprocessing, featuring engineering, model selection, and evaluations, giving insights into the factors that affect property prices and the performances of various regression algorithms. After performing multiple experiments, we showcase the efficiency of our approaches in predicting property prices. Existing techniques that have tried to predict house prices have often struggled to deal with nonlinear relationships present among the factors. Recent techniques such as Linear regression, Ridge and Lasso Regression and Support Vector Machines(SVM) have come up short of being perfect when it comes to dealing with computational intensity and these techniques require extensive hyperparameter tuning. However, our predictive model is able to deal with these challenges by leveraging the strengths of Random Forest regression. This is done with high accuracy and the implications for real estate stakeholders are discussed, subsequently. This paper also highlights the various avenues through which the performance of real estate estimation models can be improved in the future. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper serves to show how Q-learning can be used in complement with Maximal Ratio Combining to better IoT communication systems under dynamic fading, high-density networks, and severe interference sources. The ML-enhanced MRC demonstrated promising improvements in signal strength and quality, allowing for performance that was either above or at least equal to the regular MRC. The ML-enhanced presented the added benefit of dynamic adaptation, modifying its performance to meet real-life needs by adapting to issues such as increased density and interference. These results support that integrating Q-learning into MRC-based frameworks significantly increases the reliability and efficiency of IoT communication protocols. Future investigations will aim to improve ML algorithms more appropriate for devices with few resources and evaluate their potential with state-of-the-art technology to foster future applications across intelligent IoT networks. These approaches have the potential to support more efficient operations and increased connectivity in IoT systems. © 2024 IEEE.

Stress is one of the prevailing issues in today's world, deeply impacting the actual well-being of individuals. In this paper, we introduce an innovative method to detect stress that deviates from the mainstream approaches, which rely solely on physiologic signals and self-reporting. Our non-invasive, efficient, and scalable real-time system, built on the facial image data processed by CNNs, makes real-time human stress detection possible. The system captures facial expressions through video or static images, which it then processes within a CNN model to identify stress-related features. CNNs are particularly innovative in that they are adept.at automatically extracting and learning hierarchical features from extremely complex, unstructured data like facial images. Facial expression datasets were used to train and test the proposed model in different stress conditions. The model achieved a very good accuracy level in differentiating stressed from non-stressed states, thus putting it on par with professionals. Real-time testing of the system's performance was done on edge devices such as smartphones to prove its potential for use in real-life applications related to mobile health. As facial image data is utilised by the system, thereby killing the need for wearable sensors or invasive physiological monitoring, the approach would be more accessible for detecting stress levels. This research showed that CNN models developed based on facial images can transform stress monitoring. Its implications are wide, applicable in health care, workplace settings, and even self-manageable personal stress. In future work, the model should be generalised for diverse populations, the system's real-time capabilities enhanced, and multimodal data further integrated to increase detection accuracy and reliability. © 2024 IEEE.

EMG-based hand gesture recognition uses electromyographic (EMG) signals to interpret and classify hand movements by analyzing electrical activity generated by muscle contractions. It has wide applications in prosthesis control, rehabilitation training, and human-computer interaction. Using electrodes placed on the skin, the EMG sensor captures muscle signals, which are processed and filtered to reduce noise. Numerous feature extraction and machine learning algorithms have been proposed to extract and classify muscle signals to distinguish between various hand *** paper aims to benchmark the performance of EMG-based hand gesture recognition using novel feature extraction methods, namely, fused time-domain descriptors, temporal-spatial descriptors, and wavelet transform-based features, combined with the state-of-the-art machine and deep learning models. Experimental investigations on the Grabmyo dataset demonstrate that the 1D Dilated CNN performed the best with an accuracy of 97% using fused time-domain descriptors such as power spectral moments, sparsity, irregularity factor and waveform length ratio. Similarly, on the FORS-EMG dataset, random forest performed the best with an accuracy of 94.95% using temporal-spatial descriptors (which include time domain features along with additional features such as coefficient of variation (COV), and Teager-Kaiser energy operator (TKEO)). © 2024 IEEE.

Currently, online map navigation applications are essential to our daily demands, such as route finding in a big city or booking a taxi trip. Further, the applications also play a pivotal role in finding access to the nearest medical aid in big cities with complex traffic networks. However, existing commercial map programs are unable to provide route suggestions in areas where a continuous network connection is assured, which is essential for distant emergency medical services. This study introduces a highly effective personalized shortest-path algorithm for finding the fastest path of an emergency vehicle (EV) while also ensuring stable network connections for potential remote robotic surgery. By using a customized A-star algorithm, the experimental findings demonstrate that this technique can outperform current search approaches with a 5% shorter path length per 5km. For rescue missions in a large city, the enhancement is remarkable and has the potential to save lives. Due to high compatibility with the existing search algorithms, this method can easily be included as a critical feature for existing commercial map apps. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper, we propose a time-dependent multi-objective trip planning using ant colony optimization. Especially, the proposed method deals with time-dependent POI factors by utilizing past-trip records with time stamps and computes time-dependent travel time by utilizing route API. Moreover, we reduced the response time from the route API calls. Compared with two conventional methods, our proposed method provided routes with high time-dependent values. Meanwhile, the number of API calls is reduced by 98.8% on average by introducing the API call reduction. © 2024 IEEE.

The Single-Ended Primary-Inductor Converter (SEPIC) is one type of DC-DC converter that has been widely utilized. In certain conditions, this DC-DC converter may exhibit inappropriate behavior regarding stability and reliability, thus requiring a controller to ensure that the voltage, current, or power values they produce align with the desired one. In this research, we examine and simulate the performance of the SEPIC converter using a Proportional Integral (PI) controller and compare the use of tuning methods: Ziegler-Nichols (ZN), Genetic Algorithm (GA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), and Fuzzy Logic in regulating the PI control parameters. Simulations will be performed through MATLAB. From the simulation results, it is observed that the PI tuning methods using GA, PSO, and Fuzzy Logic are superior to the ZN method, and with the advantage of adaptive process for PI tuning, the fuzzy logic method outperforms in terms of convenience to the other three methods. © 2024 IEEE.

Cryptographic modules in Internet of Things (IoT) devices have had limited use, primarily to meet key requirements such as efficiency and lightweight. However, as IoT devices fulfill more complex roles and handle sensitive information, the need for efficient and lightweight cryptographic modules is increasing. However, traditional software- or hardware-based implementations to provide cryptographic modules result in a tradeoff between efficiency and lightweight. The emergence of the RISC-V architecture presents a new strategy to unify these distinct implementation approaches. RISC-V provides a modular Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) and support for user-extended instructions to enable the configuration of optimal system architectures. Therefore, a new cryptographic algorithm implementation method that integrates existing implementation methods can be presented. This paper presents various strategies for implementing ARIA block cipher, a Korean standard cryptographic algorithm, on a lightweight RISC-V system. © 2024 IEEE.
