In the field of bioinf.rmatics, there exists a large number of web service providers and many competing standards regarding how data should be represented and interfaced. However, these web services are often hard to use for a non-expert programmer and it can be especially hard to see how different services can be used together to create scientific workflows. In this paper we have performed a literature study to identify problems involved in developing interoperable web services for the bioinf.rmatics community and steps taken by other projects to, at least in part, address them. We have also conducted a case study by developing our own bioinf.rmatic web service to further investigate these problems.

In the last few years' business in internet become more and more significance. On other hand new development of internet technology is rapid and changed every day. Thus Business models have to be continually adapted to meet the requirements of new business idea. One of these new and important business ideas is: how to supply the needs of small and medium sized enterprises (SME) with business software (E.g. Enterprise resource planning System (ERP)). This work aims to classify this business idea in order to apply it in an appropriate business model. The classification is done through the projection of the business idea into different characteristics and their attributes. By researching the literature on this topic, we have identified five relevant characteristics and their attributes that are suitable to lead us to the appropriate characterization of this business model.

Successful state-of-the-art video retrieval and classification applications are predominantly carried out by means of spatio-temporal features. Typically, the evaluation of these tasks is exclusively done based on their final performance but no systematic analysis of feature robustness, invariance and stability has been done yet for large scale video retrieval. In this work, we analyze the impact of visual transformation on spatio-temporal features in large scale experiments. Following the recipe of recent state of the art evaluations, we choose the best performing approaches, namely the spatio-temporal Harris3D, Hessian3D, and Cuboid detectors and the HOG/HOF, SURF3D, and HOG3D descriptors. We show that these features have different properties and behave differently under varying transformations (challenges). This helps researchers to justify the choice of features for new applications and helps to optimize the choice of input video in terms of resolution, compression, frames per second or noise suppression. We make the extracted features accessible on-line for further independent evaluation and applications. © 2010 ACM.

The carrier recovery is one key technique in the demodulation of high order quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) signals. A carrier recovery algorithm which switches between multi-threshold polarity decision mode and decision directed mode according to the standard deviation of the frequency of numerically controlled oscillator (NCO) is proposed. The proposed algorithm can detect a proper time for the mode switch to yield lower steady state error. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in improving the performance of blind carrier recovery.

Chip multiprocessors designed for streaming applications such as Cell BE offer impressive peak performance but suffer from limited bandwidth to off-chip main memory. As the number of cores is expected to rise further, this bottleneck will become more critical in the coming years. Hence, memory-efficient algorithms are required. As a case study, we investigate parallel sorting on Cell BE as a problem of great importance and as a challenge where the ratio between computation and memory transfer is very low. Our previous work led to a parallel mergesort that reduces memory bandwidth requirements by pipelining between SPEs, but the allocation of SPEs was rather ad-hoc. In our present work, we investigate mappings of merger nodes to SPEs. The mappings are designed to provide optimal trade-offs between load balancing, buffer memory consumption, and communication load on the on-chip bus. We solve this multi-objective optimization problem by deriving an integer linear programming formulation and compute Pareto-optimal solutions for the mapping of merge trees with up to 127 merger nodes. For mapping larger trees, we give a fast divide-and-conquer based approximation algorithm. We evaluate the sorting algorithm resulting from our mappings by a discrete event simulation. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2009.

Since the multi-rate enhancements have been implemented in wireless ad hoc networks (MANETs), QoS-constrained multicast protocols for multimedia communication should be adapted to exploit them fully for using more efficiently the limited resources. To build a multicast tree with delay-guaranteed, one-hop delay and end-to-end delay must be known. The one-hop delay is the transmission time at a given link connecting two neighboring hosts, and the end-to-end delay is the time taken for a data packet from a specific source to reach the destination node. However, how to calculate the above two delays using the IEEE 802.11 MAC is still a challenging problem, because the radio channel is shared among neighbors. Further, the multi-rate enhancements make it more difficult since the neighboring relation among hosts is varied with the transmission rates. In this paper, we first propose a method to estimate the one-hop delay based on varied transmission rates by monitoring the sensed busy/idle ratio of shared channel. Then, by its aid, another method is proposed to compute the end-to-end delay. Finally, we integrate the above two methods with a typical multicast routing protocol, ODMRP, for constructing a delay-guaranteed multicast protocol. Simulation results show that the proposed method obtains more precise one-hop delay than a very recently work. Besides, the integrated protocol provides better delay guarantee than the existing protocol when the multicast traffic has delay requirement.

Aiming at the technique crux of system failure testing and function reconstruction, we carry on a research to the distilling method of the Boolean relation data. First, start with the analysis to the working wave character of target chip in the waveform confined space of system, and then on this foundation, the corresponding logic relation expression between signals of different logic types is given. While aiming at the combination logic waveform, and also integrating with the analysis to the fixed time relation of the waveform and the feature of its waveform data, we have put forward and carried out the logic relation distilling algorithm of the combination circuit signals based on credibility interval. While aiming at the timing logic waveform and on the foundation of the analysis to the different timing logic types, as well as the analysis to the waveform timing feature, we have put forward and carried out the logic relation distilling algorithm of the timing circuit signals based on waveform decomposition. Through the extraction of corresponding logic relation between different signals, the implicit logic relation of the circuit inner is translated into the limited set value of the logic relation expression which the logic synthesis can identify. And then from the angle of corresponding relation of the different signal logic values, the logic function of circuit is described.

The emerging self-service technologies (SSTs) make people's daily life become more and more convenient. The users' attitude toward and requirements about the SST also become diversified due to its widely applicable domains. This research aims to establish a model for investigating the factors that will affect the adoption of SST by consumers of convenience stores. Based on the technology acceptance model and prior research, a hypothesis model was built, and then was validated through an advanced statistics tool - structured equation model. The findings can guide the designers of the corresponding equipments and software to create a friendly and efficient environment for service consumers.

Focusing on the limitations of the traditional CCDHCR scheduling methods that are in high planning complexity and rarely attack dynamic scheduling problem, a new CC-DHCR integrated planning and scheduling method base on slab cluster is put forward. The key idea is, on one hand, to classify slabs and coils into slab clusters and coil clusters respectively according to the slab and coil clustering rules in the batch planning layer, so as to improve the planing efficiency; On the other hand, to design slab cluster based strategy in the dynamic scheduling layer, based on which the sequences of entering the reheat furnace for slabs from the same slab cluster can be adjusted dynamically according to the actual production conditions. Results of test with data from practical production process show that the method can effectively solve the CC-DHCR scheduling problem, and increase the DHCR ratio.
