Cardiotocography (CTG) is a worldwide method used for recording fetal heart rate and uterine contractions during pregnancy and delivery. The consistent visual assessment of the CTG is not only time consuming but also requires expertise and clinical knowledge of the obstetricians. The inconsistency in visual evaluation can be eliminated by developing clinical decision support systems. During last few decades various data mining and machine learning techniques have been proposed for developing such systems. In present study, bagging approach in combination with three traditional decision trees algorithms (random forest, Reduced Error Pruning Tree (REPTree) and J48) has been applied to identify normal and pathological fetal state using CTG data. Studies show that decision trees algorithms and bagging have separately shown tremendous improvements in the classification of healthy and pathological subjects in medical domain. The parameters of classifiers were optimized before applying on the data sets. The ten folds cross validation is used for examining the robust of the classifiers. The degree of separation was quantified using Precision, Recall and F-Measure. At first full feature space have been analyzed using proposed bagging based decision trees algorithms. Then by using correlation feature selection - subset evaluation (cfs) method, a reduced feature space has been obtained and analyzed using proposed method. The overall classification accuracy of more than 90% has been obtained by the classifiers on the test set when full feature space is used. For all three performance measures, values greater than 0.90 has been achieved with full and reduced feature space. The proposed methodology showed better classification in both full and reduced feature space scenarios.

Sustainability has emerged as a broad concern for society. Many engineering disciplines have been grappling with challenges in how we sustain technical, social and ecological systems. In the software engineering community, for example, maintainability has been a concern for a long time. But too often, these issues are treated in isolation from one another. Misperceptions among practitioners and research communities persist, rooted in a lack of coherent understanding of sustainability, and how it relates to software systems research and practice. This article presents a cross-disciplinary initiative to create a common ground and a point of reference for the global community of research and practice in software and sustainability, to be used for effectively communicating key issues, goals, values and principles of sustainability design for software-intensive *** centrepiece of this effort is the Karlskrona Manifesto for Sustainability Design, a vehicle for a much needed conversation about sustainability within and beyond the software community, and an articulation of the fundamental principles underpinning design choices that affect sustainability. We describe the motivation for developing this manifesto, including some considerations of the genre of the manifesto as well as the dynamics of its creation. We illustrate the collaborative reflective writing process and present the current edition of the manifesto itself. We assess immediate implications and applications of the articulated principles, compare these to current practice, and suggest future steps.

Shapelet is a fragment of a time series that can be used to represent class characteristics of the time series. Its application in time series classification is extensively discussed and many improvements have been made. One of them is to separate the construction of classifier from shapelet selection process which is called shapelet transformation. It is more flexible and provides us with more freedom and possibilities to make it better. First of all, the consumption of time is still a key problem that needs to be improved. Secondly, how to find the perfect shapelets that are most representative with appropriate amount is another important question we need to answer. In this paper, we first reduce the calculation by merging the existing speed-up techniques with bounding of sliding window. Then, we apply Max-Correlation and Min-Redundancy feature selection strategy in shapelet selection process to choose proper shapelets. We introduce ReliefF to find shapelet candidates with strong class correlation, and eliminate the redundant candidates with less ReliefF weights than their similar candidates. By applying our solution in actual datasets, we have proved the feasible of our strategy in actual application.

In this paper, the outage statistics are studied for non-isotropic Beckmann fading channel model. Non-isotropic scattering generally results in an asymmetrical Doppler power spectral density (PSD). In this context, an expression for the outage probability (OP) (or equivalently the cumulative distribution function (CDF)) of the fading envelope is first derived. Then, the probability density function (PDF) of the rate of change of the fading envelope is investigated. Thereafter, an expression for the average rate of outages (ARO) (or equivalently the level-crossing rate (LCR)) is provided. Finally, by making use of the analytical results of the ARO and OP, an expression for the average duration of outages (ADO) (or equivalently the average duration of fades (ADF)) is attained. The obtained results, which are given in the form of finite-range integrals that can efficiently be computed numerically, are verified to include a variety of already known expressions for models that are special cases of the Beckmann model. Numerical and simulation results are provided to verify the validity of the derivations and to analyze the effect of the fading parameters on the obtained metrics.

In this paper, we investigate the second-order statistics of Hoyt fading channels under non-isotropic scattering scenarios. Assuming an asymmetrical Doppler power spectral density (PSD), we derive, in the form of single finite-range integrals, expressions for the level-crossing rate (LCR) and average duration of fades (ADF). These new results are then applied to obtain the LCR and ADF of selection combining (SC) diversity over non-isotropic Hoyt channels. In addition to their importance for studying the system performance and characterizing the dynamic behavior of multipath fading channels, the formulas derived are general in that they can be applied to many non-isotropic scattering situations. Furthermore, they are shown to unify some existing results for Rayleigh and Hoyt channels. The validity of the analytical expressions is verified by means of computer simulations where a mobile-to-mobile (M2M) propagation scenario is considered in which the angle of departure (AOD) and angle of arrival (AOA) of multipath components are both described by the von Mises distribution.

We present RealFoodTrade (RFT), a system that allows farmers and fisher- men to sell their products directly to the end-buyer. RFT makes use of Linked Data sets, together with an domain ontology designed by experts, to perform semantic search over products on sale. RFT employs geo-location technology on mobile devices to match demand and supply according to the location. We sketch the semantic search techniques in RFT and illustrate a prototype tailored to the fishing industry.

In this article we describe a framework (DEGA-Gen) for the application of distributed genetic algorithms for detection of communities in networks. The framework proposes efficient ways of encoding the network in the chromosomes, greatly optimizing the memory use and computations, resulting in a scalable framework. Different objective functions may be used for producing division of network into communities. The framework is implemented using open source implementation of MapReduce paradigm, Hadoop. We validate the framework by developing community detection algorithm, which uses modularity as measure of the division. Result of the algorithm is the network, partitioned into non-overlapping communities, in such a way, that network modularity is maximized. We apply the algorithm to well-known data sets, such as Zachary Karate club, bottlenose Dolphins network, College football dataset, and US political books dataset. Framework shows comparable results in achieved modularity; however, much less space is used for network representation in memory. Further, the framework is scalable and can deal with large graphs as it was tested on a larger *** dataset.

An Internet web application is comprised of dynamic web objects that are updated from time to time. This work investigates the placement of web objects over multi-tier servers in which each host can obtain an object by constructing locally, or via a network transmission from the upstream host. The cost of maintaining web objects consists of the computing resources used for constructing objects as well as the network bandwidth used for object delivery. This paper develops a new efficient algorithm to find the minimum cost object placement strategy.

Modeling and simulation of large-scale scientific application is extremely large and complex, such as the Earth system modeling and simulation, seismic simulation, and combustion simulation. It not only needs the support of high-performance computing platform, but also needs a software technology to solve the complexities, and to enhance its flexibility and scalability. CBSE (component-based software engineering) technology is a good solution. But the existing widely used component technology in enterprise applications, such as CORBA/CCM, COM/COM+, J2EE/EJB, and .NET, does not suitable for largescale scientific computing field. The U.S. Department of Energy in conjunction with the Indiana University and the University of Utah recently proposed a component technology CCA (Common Component Architecture) for large-scale scientific computing field. This paper first analyzes CCA and verifies it's feasibility, and then introduces the CBSE into large-scale Geophysical applications using CCA, so as to solve the complexity of modeling, simulation, management and maintenance of the simulation of Geophysical Applications.
