In this paper, we first point out difficulties faced by CG artists in the shading process: (1) a lot of technical details on shaders required, (2) long rendering time, and (3) repeated cumbersome trial-and-errors. To make them overcome such difficulties, we propose Shader Space Navigator, a system that efficiently searches for shaders similar to a given query shader. With Shader Space Navigator, CG artists find quality shaders from the database that are very close to the final result shader, and thus complete the shading process easily by slightly tuning some attributes of those shaders. As a result, the CG artists can create their final shaders in an intuitive and efficient way thereby avoiding a large number of time-consuming rendering processes. Copyright 2009 ACM.

In this paper, we review: (1) the acoustic and linguistic properties of children's speech for both read and spontaneous speech, and (2) the developments in automatic speech recognition for children with application to spoken dialogue and multimodal dialogue system design. First, the effect of developmental changes on the absolute values and variability of acoustic correlates is presented for read speech for children ages 6 and up. Then, verbal child-machine spontaneous interaction is reviewed and results from recent studies are presented. Age trends of acoustic, linguistic and interaction parameters are discussed, such as sentence duration, filled pauses, politeness and frustration markers, and modality usage. Some differences between child-machine and human-human interaction are pointed out. The implications for acoustic modeling, linguistic modeling and spoken dialogue system design for children are presented. We conclude with a review of relevant applications of spoken dialogue technologies for children. Copyright 2009 ACM.

A 2D/3D video conversion scheme for image sequences is proposed in this paper. The challenge to such a problem comes from the pixel-dept. assignment with insufficient information. To fit more kinds of image sequences, the proposed dept. assignment scheme is content-adaptive after the detection and classification of video shots are completed. Our dept. assignment is based on the block-based analyses of multiple cues, e.g., motion parallax, atmospheric perspective, texture gradient, linear perspective, and relative height, separately for the foreground objects and the background areas. To accurately obtain object-based dept.s, the Delaunay triangulation algorithm is used to refine the shapes of objects after block-based segmentation. Based on the final dept. map, the left and right image sequences, which then constitute the stereoscopic video, can be created by using the dept. Image Based Rendering (DIBR) technique. Subjective experiments show that the 3D video generated by using our proposed scheme presents little difference to that created based on the dept. ground truths.

After the success of second generation mobile system, more interest was started in wireless communications. A Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) is a wireless network without any fixed infrastructure or centralized control;it contains mobile nodes that are connected dynamically in an arbitrary manner. The Mobile Ad hoc Networks are essentially suitable when infrastructure is not present or difficult or costly to setup or when network setup is to be done quickly within a short period, they are very attractive for tactical communication in the military and rescue missions. They are also expected to play an important role in the civilian for as convention centers, conferences, and elec-tronic classrooms. The clustering is an important research area in mobile ad hoc networks because it im-proves the performance of flexibility and scalability when network size is huge with high mobility. All mo-bile nodes operate on battery power;hence, the power consumption becomes an important issue in Mobile Ad hoc Network.
