We examine the surface alignment of liquid crystals (LC's) by a double linearly polarized ultraviolet (LPUV) light expose process. Exposing polarized light induces a surface anisotropy to polyimide (PI) layer surfaces and hence determines the alignment direction. LPUV exposes with angular difference of 45 ° between two polarization directions make LC director change.

This paper describes the vertical handover architecture with Low Latency Handover for mobile terminals which supports interworking between heterogeneous networks. The vertical handover architecture defines handover-related modules for mobile terminal and the handover switching flows among them. We adapt Low Latency Handover method to Mobile IP for reducing handover time. The architecture is designed to be easily extended to support more than two heterogeneous networks, so that it is easy to apply architecture to terminals that have multiple heterogeneous wireless network interfaces. We analyze the performance of handover method in terms of handover delay time using test bed system.

Existing Smartphone platforms entailed royalty expenses and had custornization difficulties due to the closure of their source codes. The Qplus Smartphone Edition requires no royalty because it is based on the embedded Linux. In this paper, an adaptive fast full search algorithm is proposed. In the first of two proposed stages, using a predicted motion vector, we determine the adaptive region order based on gradient distances among all regions after partitioning the search range. In the second stage, by means of adaptive region order, the matching error of all search positions is calculated in an optimized calculation order which is derived from the local image complexity of the current macro-block to search. Based on a multilevel successive elimination algorithm the proposed algorithm reduces the complexity of motion estimation up to 96.1% on average, compared with the conventional full search algorithm without any loss of image quality.
