In this paper we present an effective framework for multimodal emotion recognition based on a novel approach for automatic peak frame selection from audio-visual video sequences. Given a video with an emotional expression, peak frames are the ones at which the emotion is at its apex. The objective of peak frame selection is to make the training process for the automatic emotion recognition system easier by summarizing the expressed emotion over a video sequence. The main steps of the proposed framework consists of extraction of video and audio features based on peak frame selection, unimodal classification and decision level fusion of audio and visual results. We evaluated the performance of our approach on eNTERFACE'05 audio-visual database containing six basic emotional classes. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed system over other methods in the literature.

This paper proposes a fast hand detection method by employing corner detector to solve the finger fragment problem occurred during hand detection. Weshrink the ROI into a much smaller range while performing corner detection which can reduce the time consumption efficiently. The proposed method needs neither data training nor wrist segmenting. It also does not need to find the contour of hand. These advantages make the system favorably to be implemented in embedded systems. The experimental results show that the proposed method can detect hands faster with lower computational consumption.

Tightly coupled accelerators (TCA) architecture consists of heterogeneous nodes connected to a low-latency high-bandwidth network which allows accelerators to communicate directly. PCI express adaptive communication hub (PEACH) is a switch that connects multiple nodes with the PCIe to build a ring based network in which PCIe packets are directly forwarded. PEACH2, the current version of PEACH uses Altera's field programmable gate array (FPGA) Stratix IV GX and provides four PCIe Gen2 x 8 ports to form a stand-alone network. We developed PEACH3, an advanced version of PEACH2 and its preliminary evaluation result is shown. In PEACH3, the PCIe Gen2 was changed to Gen3 and the internal bus was extended from 128 to 256 bits. PEACH3 is implemented with Altera's Stratix V FPGA which works using a 250MHz clock, and provides four PCIe Gen3 x 8 ports. Stable communication between two nodes through two PCIe Gen3 connected PEACH3 boards was achieved, and communication bandwidth between two nodes was up to 6.9GB/sec, about 87% maximum performance of PCI Gen3 specification.

With the advances of wireless technologies, moving objects or users equipped with sensors are located and tracked by wireless sensor networks. Recommendations for the direction and route in exhibition by analyzing and mining the user's movement behavior can be conducted. In this paper, we study how to mine the data of historical trajectories and develop an approach which can guide the users. When users want to move out to the other region, the users are guided to move to the suggested point of interest by the corresponding sensor with the guided direction. After that, the moving user is attempted to be guided to move in the new region covered by a large size area with high attractive importance. According to the historical trajectories for users, three approaches are proposed to find out the importance for each sensor node such that the guided direction and the size of covered region can be computed dynamically. Through the computed joint forces, the points of interest in the space can be partitioned to many regions with different sizes in terms of Voronoi diagram techniques. Finally, the experimental results show that the moving user can be guided to the proper point of interest based on our proposed approaches with the considerations of visited frequency, dwell time and user movement speed.

System-on-a-chip (SOC) uses embedded cores those require a test architecture called Test Access Mechanism (TAM) to access the cores for the purpose of testing. This approach may also be used for testing of three dimensional stacked integrated circuits (SICs) based on through silicon vias (TSVs). This paper presents an algorithm for minimizing the post bond test time for 3D core-based SOCs under the constraints on the number of TSVs and the available TAM width. Given a TAM width available to test a system-on-a-chip, our algorithm partitions this width into two groups and places the cores of these groups in two layers in 3D design with the goal to optimize the total test time. The experimental results establish the effectiveness of our algorithm.

Pair programming is a programming technique in which pair of people doing programming on a single machine. The programming pair consists of a driver and a navigator or observer. The driver addresses the operational issues; i.e., responsible for implementing the current module in hand. The navigator addresses the strategic issues; i.e., keeps in mind the strategic direction the code must take. Pair programming is a dynamic process and pairing aids the rapid dispersal of system knowledge through the team while developing it. Since most of the pair programming experiments were not conducted as described in extreme programming and the empirical evidence of pair programming is mixed we were not got the true picture about the impact created by pair programming on software development. In this paper, we evaluated the dynamic pair programming methodology with static pair programming and traditional individual programming. The empirical evidence shows that static pair programming is the most expensive and slower technology than dynamic pair programming and individual programming technologies. It also indicates that dynamic pair programming is the fastest software development methodology than static pair programming and traditional individual programming methodologies.

Pair programming and peer code review are two collaborative inspection methods that improve the quality of software. These light-weight review techniques are low-cost alternatives to formal inspections and rigorous reviews that commonly remove 90% of software defects before even the first test case is run. While pair programming has many advocates, evidence suggests that pair programming is not as useful as claimed and the requirement of the pairs to co-locate is hindrance on many development projects. Peer code reviews, however, have been shown to be just as effective as pair programming and are a better fit for many of today's software efforts that are being developed collaboratively, but asynchronously, in the cloud. In this paper we demonstrate peer review's effectiveness as compared to pair programming in the context of Test Driven Development (TDD), a popular agile programming technique that's rapidly gaining mainstream acceptance. The empirical evidence also shows that equal quality programs can be produced at a lower cost (28% less than pair programming) using a peer review technique in TDD as compared with traditional pair programming.

In recent years, major natural disasters have made it more challenging for us to protect human lives. Examples include the 2011 Japan Tohoku earthquake and Typhoon Morakot in 2009 in Taiwan. However, modern disaster warning systems cannot automatically respond efficiently and effectively to disasters. As a result, it is necessary to develop an automatic response system to prevent, diminish or eliminate the damages caused by disasters. In this paper, we develop an active emergency disaster system to automatically process standard warning messages, such as CAP (Common Alerting Protocol) messages. After receiving official warning messages of earthquakes, our system automatically shuts down natural gas lines in order to prevent buildings from fire and opens the building doors for easy evacuation. Our system also stops elevators when they reach the closest floor. In addition, our system can be applied to hospitals to tell surgeons to pause ongoing operations, or to supermarkets to inform consumers of the way to exit the building. According to our experiment results, the proposed system can avoid possible dangers and save human lives during major disasters.

Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANET) has suffered from many risks in the past, like security privilege and mode of authentication by many attackers/hackers because they were trying to disturb the network and break communication services for their personal interest. The series of attacks that have broken the secured communication are network jammer, source sink attackand these attacks are called as denial of service (DoS) attacks. A novel model for prevention of DoS attacks in VANET is proposed and named as RBS protocol. The proposed model is based on the master chock filter concept for filtration of packets during busy traffic and other attacks. The protocol was also evaluated by the other two methods, which are blocking the source IP originator by the DoS attacks and checking the prevention of TCP/UDP flooding and IP sniffing attacks. The evaluation of the protocol was based on the mobility node's interaction and utilization of bandwidth. The experimental results were performed on the highway transportation condition. The RBS protocol results showed that the packet delivery ratio, throughput, time delayhas improved as compared to IP-trackback protocol.
