The aim of this work is to present a modification of the Random Walker algorithm for the segmentation of occlusal caries from photographic color images. The modification improves the detection and time execution performance of the classical Random Walker algorithm and also deals with the limitations and difficulties that the specific type of images impose to the algorithm. The proposed modification consists of eight steps: 1) definition of the seed points, 2) conversion of the image to gray scale, 3) application of watershed transformation, 4) computation of the centroid of each region, 5) construction of the graph, 6) application of the Random Walker algorithm, 7) smoothing and extraction of the perimeter of the regions of interest and 8) overlay of the results. The algorithm was evaluated using a set of 96 images where 339 areas of interest were manually segmented by an expert. The obtained segmentation accuracy is 93%.

The advanced sensing and imaging technologies of today's digital camera systems provide the capability of monitoring traffic flows in a very large area. In order to provide continuous monitoring and prompt anomaly detection, an abstract-level autonomous anomaly detection model is developed that is able to detect various categories of abnormal vehicle events with unsupervised learning. The method is based on the cogent confabulation model, which performs statistical inference functions in a neuromorphic formulation. The proposed approach covers the partitioning of a large region, training of the vehicle behavior knowledge base and the detection of anomalies according to the likelihood-ratio test. A software version of the system is implemented to verify the proposed model. The experimental results demonstrate the functionality of the detection model and compare the system performance under different configurations.

In this paper, we propose a resource allocation and Tx power control scheme, called resource allocation and power control (RAPC) in an LTE-Advanced device-to-device (D2D) network. In the proposed scheme, the macro base station (mBS) and D2D senders (D2DSs) service macro user equipment (mUEs) and D2D receivers (D2DRs) use the different frequency bands and Tx power chosen as D2D links' locations in inner and outer zones to reduce interference substantially. We analyze and compare the proposed scheme and random resource allocation (RRA) scheme with fractional frequency reuse (FFR) systems in terms of the system throughput for DL and outage probability according to the number of D2D user's (D2DR) traffic density. Simulation results show that the RAPC scheme has better performance than the random resource allocation (RRA) scheme performance in terms of the system throughput and outage probability for mUEs and D2DRs.

In this paper, we propose an adaptive image enlargement scheme based on iterative back-projection. Initial estimates of each enlarged image can be individually created from the spatial and temporal domains by using sub-pixel interpolation and sub-pixel motion estimation. Then, based on the initial estimates and image content, reconstructed images are derived by using a modified iterative back-projection technique and fused into an enlarged image. Finally, a low-pass filter as a post-processing is applied to reduce the blocking artifacts in the reconstructed high-resolution images. Our experiment results demonstrate that, in terms of PSNR and NQM, the proposed scheme is superior to existing methods.

The effects caused by the introduction of a time delay in the continuous part of an impulsive (hybrid) model of endocrine feedback regulation are studied by bifurcation analysis. It is concluded that larger (in some well-defined sense) values of the time delay give rise to a broad range of nonlinear dynamics phenomena that have not been observed for the smaller ones. Among such behaviors are e.g. border-collision bifurcations, bistability, and quasiperiodic solutions. The reason for the more complex dynamics exhibited by the model in this case is a discontinuity of the Jacobian of a discrete mapping describing the propagation of the model dynamics from one firing of the impulsive feedback to another.
