To directly investigate the dynamic nanoscale phenomenon on the surface being processed in wet conditions such as precision polishing, and cleaning in semiconductor industrial, an optical method for visualization and observation of each sub-100 nm sized particle that is moving on an interface such as a silica glass surface by applying an evanescent field have been proposing. Subsequently, we developed an experimental apparatus equipped with an optical microscopy system for verifying the moving particle observation method in a laboratory scale. This article introduces some experimentally direct observation results of duplicated wet processes.

Future cooperative autonomous vehicles will require high-performance communication means to support functions such as cooperative maneuvering and cooperative perception. The high-bandwidth requirements of these functions can be met through mmWave communications, whose utilization is often hindered by the harsh propagation conditions of typical vehicular environments. A solution to this problem is the use of reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs), which enable the reflection of signals in a configurable direction, and have recently gained attention in the vehicular domain. In this paper, we provide an initial feasibility study, highlighting the challenges ahead and the performance RISs need to deliver in order to enable this type of communications. Specifically, we utilize CoopeRIS, a simulation framework for RISs integrated into the Plexe/Veins/SUMO ecosystem that we develop as further contribution and will release to the public.

One major goal of digital twin technology applied in the Architecture, engineering, and Construction (AEC) Industry is the mapping of roads and road environments with their associated information. Such digital twins can support cost-effective testing, simulations, and the production of mapping backgrounds for automated vehicles and generally for Cooperative, Connected and Automated Mobility (CCAM) developments. The efficient workflow that leads from data acquisition to finished products depends on a number of requirements and knowledge sets. The main contribution of the paper is a general methodology of creating HD-map from point cloud and image data set. Accordingly, the most widely used survey techniques are presented and the requirements for the objects to be derived are summarized. The paper then outlines a general implementation procedure as an expert knowledge through a real-life example, where the results obtained for the ZalaZONE Automotive Proving Ground are demonstrated. © 2023 IEEE.

The emergence of cloud computing technology has motivated a very high number of users in different organizations to access its services in running and delivering their various operations and services. However, this surge of cloud users has led to the problem of uneven load sharing among the cloud computing infrastructures. As a result, federated cloud infrastructure was initiated to provide more cloud computing resources to accommodate more cloud users' requests and also to provide equal requests mapping with the available cloud resources. Nevertheless, the issue of unequal allocation of requests within the datacenter(s) that makes up the federated cloud environment still persists. This research work presents an intra-datacenter load balancing algorithm in a federated cloud environment named;the intra-balancer adapted throttled algorithm to evenly distribute requests in each datacenter that formulate the federated cloud infrastructures. The simulation of the intra-balancer was carried out in CloudAnalyst, the results of the implementation showed that the intra-balancer outperformed the Round-Robin and ESCE with 98.93ms and 2.26ms for the response and processing time respectively. The results assert that the intra-balancer algorithm provides a better load balancing solution in a federated cloud environment. © 2024 IEEE.

An Efficient GPU-based Implementation for Noise Robust Sound Source Localization

Robot audition, encompassing Sound Source Localization (SSL), Sound Source Separation (SSS), and Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), enables robots and smart devices to acquire auditory capabilities similar to human hearing. Despite their wide applicability, processing multi-channel audio signals from microphone arrays in SSL involves computationally intensive matrix operations, which can hinder efficient deployment on Central Processing Units (CPUs), particularly in embedded systems.with limited CPU resources. This paper introduces a GPU-based implementation of SSL for robot audition, utilizing the Generalized Singular Value Decomposition-based Multiple Signal Classification (GSVD-MUSIC), a noise-robust algorithm, within the HARK platform, an open-source software suite. For a 60-channel microphone array, the proposed implementation achieves significant performance improvements. On the Jetson AGX Orin, an embedded device powered by an NVIDIA GPU and ARM®Cortex™-A78AE v8.2 64-bit CPUs, we observe speedups of 4645.1× for GSVD calculations and 8.8× for the SSL module, while speedups of 2223.4× for GSVD calculation and 8.95× for the entire SSL module on a server configured with an NVIDIA A100 GPU and AMD EPYC™ 7352 CPUs, making real-time processing feasible for large-scale microphone arrays and providing ample capacity for real-time processing of potential subsequent machine learning or deep learning tasks. © 2025, CC BY-NC-ND.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects social communication and interaction. Early diagnosis of ASD can mitigate the severity and help with ideal treatment direction. computer vision-based methods with traditional machine learning and deep learning are employed in the literature for automatic diagnosis. Recently, deep learning with a facial image-based ASD classification has gained interest due to its ease of collection and non-invasiveness. We observed that the existing approaches utilized either local or global features of facial images to diagnose ASD. However, its important to consider both local and global features to obtain fine-grained details and larger contextual information for accurate detection and classification. This paper proposes a sequencer-based patch-wise Local Feature Extractor along with a Global Feature Extractor. Finally, the features from these modules are aggregated to obtain the final feature for the classification of ASD. Experiments on a publicly available Autism Facial Image Dataset demonstrate that our proposed framework achieves state-of-the-art performance. We achieved accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score of 94.7%, 94.0%, 95.3%, and 94.6%, respectively.

The applications of Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) on Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices have increased significantly in recent years, and Federated Learning (FL) is often used to improve ASR performance since its decentralized training mechanism ensures users' data privacy. However, FL is vulnerable to various attacks. The most challenging one to detect and defend against is trigger backdoor attack. Adversaries inject the trigger into the training audio data and participate in the FL training, causing the converged global model to mispredict the poisoned data. Unlike previous defense methods filtering suspicious models during model aggregation, we propose the Knowledge Distillation Defense Framework (KDDF) to detect and remove features of the potential triggers during the inference. KDDF utilizes Knowledge Distillation (KD) to train a validation model on each IoT device, which is used to identify suspicious data. Then, KDDF would try to eliminate the injected trigger during the model inference if the data is suspicious. Experimental results show that KDDF can effectively distinguish between benign and suspicious data and recover the classification results of suspicious data.

Federated Learning (FL) provides a decentralized training mechanism that ensures users' data privacy. However, FL is vulnerable to backdoor attacks, a type of data poisoning attack. The adversaries tampered with the local models by injecting a trigger into a subset of training data. After the aggregation process, the global model would be poisoned and mispredict the input images that injected a trigger designed by an adversary. Unlike the existing defense methods attempting to identify and remove the abnormal model updates on the aggregation step, this paper proposes a Successive Interference Cancellation-based Defense Framework (SICDF) to detect and eliminate the trigger during model inference. SICDF first employs Explainable AI to infer where the trigger is and then uses image processing skills to eliminate potential trigger effects. Experiment results show that SICDF can effectively recover the poisoned data while only slightly reducing the accuracy of the clean model and benign data.

Public bus stops in India are becoming more crowded due to the country's fast population expansion. People wait a long time for buses to come, then suddenly congregate around them when they do, packing the buses with people and pushing them up into the footboards, which causes accidents. An additional concern of overcrowding is theft. All of this is the result of numerous bus stops not having adequate information on when busses would arrive. The proposed work paves a very important role for the passengers. The passengers will be provided with the information of the arrival of next bus, seat occupancy and the total passengers inside the bus. The information about the seat occupancy, in-passengers and out-passengers is done with the help of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags. The arrival of the next bus is determined by calculating the duration of the buses that are near using RFID readers placed in different bus stations. The count and the frequency will be interfaced in the web application. The passengers can check the application to know the occupancy and today's society where people can catch the right bus at the station and at the right time. This will solve the problems like waiting in bus stops and wasting time and going in a crowded bus.
