This paper presents a framework on multi-user and multi-view human eyes' detection and tracking. First, it uses fives kinds of AdaBoost face detectors with four different sizes at each area of image to detect faces in turn. Then, to locate eyes' positions, four kinds of AdaBoost eye detectors are used and if the eye-detection above fails, the prior knowledge of human organs' positions in anatomy is applied as a spare method. Next, it uses the unscented filter to predict the targets' next possible positions. Finally, the detection method above is used to detect the third frame and amend the relative forecasting. And repeat above cycle until tracking over. This framework is robust to subject's eyes' blinking, closing, wearing glasses and partly sheltering in multi-face and multi-view to a certain extent for the optimized structure performance and reasonable selected features. And because of the nonlinear filtering, it can track targets in curves with changing speeds. It mainly fits most usual vertical head scenes in monitoring environment. © 2019 IEEE.

Many organizations that have the global software development (GSD) projects use communication technologies to connect their virtual teams. However, the virtual team faces various challenges and issues in the process of the GSD. One of the significant challenges is obtaining an efficient communication among team members. This study focuses on the communication factors among the virtual teams highlighted in the literature. The communication factors are related to the temporal distances, geographical distances, socio-cultural, access to training, technological problems that hindering communications, the communication within the status of development process, personal communication skills and language differences. The objective of this study is to examine the communication factors and identify the related issues which are commonly occurring between the virtual teams in the global software development. A survey was conducted in different sectors. The findings indicate that some of important points related to the communication factors contribute to the success of the GSD. © 2018 IEEE.

In this paper, we propose an adaptive stereoscopic video streaming mechanism using MV-HEVC and 3D-HEVC technologies. When the current available bandwidth is insufficient for delivering all video layers, the mechanism selects the MV-HEVC and 3D-HEVC video pictures near the current playing point with the proposed rate control algorithm. Simulation results show that the proposed adaptive streaming mechanism can provide tolerable video quality under packet loss conditions in wireless networking environment.

In this paper, we study a classical problem of source coding with side information available at the decoder. This problem is known as the Wyner-Ahlswede-Korner (WAK) problem. Nowadays, the interest in this problem is related to the concept of distributed source coding which implies coding of correlated sources under restriction that their encoders cannot cooperate. Most of the practical coding schemes consider a specific case of the binary symmetric source with uniform distribution and side information assumed to be perfectly known to the decoder. In this paper, we concentrate on a more complicated model of the binary source. Moreover, we consider a case when side information is lossy encoded. First we generalize the approach by Gu et al. [1] in order to obtain a lower bound on the achievable rates for a general binary source. Then, a new practical “multi-class” coding scheme for this binary source with uncoded binary side information is suggested. Simulation results for LDPC-based coding for both binary symmetric and general binary sources are presented for scenarios with trellis-coded and uncoded side information, respectively. Comparisons with the previously known numerical results are presented.

Understanding and reusing complex APIs is a difficult and time consuming process, especially in legacy code and open-source software libraries and frameworks. While some primary API features are documented properly, most others lack enough documentation and design knowledge that can help developers find, understand, and reuse the needed software components and other library features. As such, the source-code itself is often the only reliable means for programmers to rely on when performing their reuse practices. In order to leverage program understanding and software reuse, this paper describes an ontology-based system named JMentor that we have developed for this purpose. Firstly, JMentor is capable of recovering the lost design decisions by reverse engineering design patterns. Secondly, JMentor provides a mechanism for locating and retrieving reusable software components. Thirdly, JMentor provides an approach for automatically recommending source-code snippets that show an example of how the user can properly reuse the retrieved components. JMentor mechanisms are based on ontology and semantic reasoning techniques. Its evaluation case studies show evidence that such techniques can improve software understanding and reuse practices.

Learning disentangled representations is considered a cornerstone problem in representation learning. Recently, Locatello et al. (2019) demonstrated that unsupervised disentanglement learning without inductive biases is theoretically impossible and that existing inductive biases and unsupervised methods do not allow to consistently learn disentangled representations. However, in many practical settings, one might have access to a very limited amount of supervision, for example through manual labeling of training examples. In this paper, we investigate the impact of such supervision on state-of-the-art disentanglement methods and perform a large scale study, training over 29 000 models under well-defined and reproducible experimental conditions. We first observe that a very limited number of labeled examples (0.01-0.5% of the data set) is sufficient to perform model selection on state-of-the-art unsupervised models. Yet, if one has access to labels for supervised model selection, this raises the natural question of whether they should also be incorporated into the training process. As a case-study, we test the benefit of introducing (very limited) supervision into existing state-of-the-art unsupervised disentanglement methods exploiting both the values of the labels and the ordinal information that can be deduced from them. Overall, we empirically validate that with very little and potentially imprecise supervision it is possible to reliably learn disentangled representations. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. Sharing of vulnerability information among companies - A survey of Swedish companies

Software products are rarely developed from scratch and vulnerabilities in such products might reside in parts that are either open source software or provided by another organization. Hence, the total cybersecurity of a product often depends on cooperation, explicit or implicit, between several organizations. We study the attitudes and practices of companies in software ecosystems.towards sharing vulnerability information. Furthermore, we compare these practices to contemporary cybersecurity recommendations. This is performed through a questionnairebased qualitative survey. The questionnaire is divided into two parts: the providers' perspective and the acquirers' perspective. The results show that companies are willing to share information with each other regarding vulnerabilities. Sharing is not considered to be harmful neither to the cybersecurity nor their business, even though a majority of the respondents consider vulnerability information sensitive. However, the companies, despite being open to sharing, are less inclined to proactively sharing vulnerability information. Furthermore, the providers do not perceive that there is a large interest in vulnerability information from their customers. Hence, the companies' overall attitude to sharing vulnerability information is passive but open. In contrast, contemporary cybersecurity guidelines recommend active disclosure and sharing among actors in an ecosystem. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The COVID-19 pandemic clearly showed how much medical and clinical students’ education relied on physical instruction and examination. The work presented here was born by the fact that medical and clinical education had to be suspended during the social distancing phase of the pandemic. This work presents the lessons learned from creating a virtual reality system (VTRACS) for educating and assessing clinical students on a limited budget. Our work showed that clinical education could be done in a virtual space with a minimal virtual reality setup and a low-cost virtual reality headset. © 2024 The Authors
