In this paper, we propose a new algorithm, called ClaSP for mining frequent closed sequential patterns in temporal transaction data. Our algorithm uses several efficient search space pruning methods together with a vertical database layout. Experiments on both synthetic and real datasets show that ClaSP outperforms currently well known state of the art methods, such as CloSpan. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2013.

We propose a context aware framework that offers a set of cloud-based services to support a very large Hajj and Umrah crowd by capturing their contexts using smartphones. The proposed framework captures the individual's context, provides a set of adapted services, and allows being in touch with a subset of one's community of interest. We leverage the spatiotemporal sensory data captured by our framework to define users' contexts for optimized services. Our proposed framework is also envisioned to assist the Hajj and Umrah authorities to (1) improve Hajj & Umrah documentation, (2) improve Hajj organization through better understanding of pilgrims' (individual and crowd) spatial and temporal behavior and needs, and (3) protect pilgrims' environment through environmental monitoring. In particular, the developed methods, techniques, and algorithms will support the pilgrimage quality of experience. We have tested our system through end-user subjects and due to apply for the upcoming Hajj events. We present our implementation details and the general impression of end users about our system.

Capturing users' spatio-temporal context by recognizing their interests, locations, history and activities, and thereafter providing context-aware services is a challenging task. In this paper, we propose a spatio-temporal zoning model that takes different context dimensions into account and try to recommend necessary services to users in a personalized way. First, we propose a generic zoning model with unrestricted set of contexts where both spatial and temporal dimensions are relaxed, followed by two semi-restricted zoning models in which either spatial or temporal dimension is relaxed, while the other one is restricted. Finally, we show the model requiring restricted spatio-temporal zoning that applies to the scenario where millions of users need to perform some activities that have to be performed in a certain location and at a certain temporal period. We use the above zoning model for Hajj and Umrah events to define pilgrim's spatio-temporal contexts by capturing their real-time and historic activities through their smartphones' sensory data. This allows to intelligently recommend a set of necessary services to the users. We present a few of the implementations introduced in our proposed system.

This paper presents the Radar for Icy Moon Exploration (RIME) that is a fundamental payload in the Jupiter Icy Moon Explorer (JUICE) mission of the European Space Agency (ESA). RIME is a radar sounder aimed to study the subsurface of Jupiter's icy moons Ganymede, Europa and Callisto. The paper illustrates the main goals of RIME, its architecture and parameters and some recent advances in its design.

This paper explores a hitherto largely ignored dimension to norms in multi-agent systems. the normative role played by optimization objectives. We introduce the notion of optimization norms which constrain agent behaviour in a manner that is significantly distinct from norms in the traditional sense. We argue that optimization norms underpin most other norms, and offer a richer representation of these. We outline a methodology for identifying the optimization norms that underpin other norms. We then define a notion of compliance for optimization norms, as well as a notion of consistency and inconsistency resolution. We offer an algebraic formalization of valued optimization norms which allows us to explicitly reason about degrees of compliance and graded sanctions. We then outline an approach to decomposing and distributing sanctions amongst multiple agents in settings where there is joint responsibility. © Springer-Verlag 2013.

Many negotiations in the real world are characterized by incomplete information, and participants' success depends on their ability to reveal information in a way that facilitates agreement without compromising the individual gains of agents. This paper presents a novel agent design for repeated negotiation in incomplete information settings that learns to reveal information strategically during the negotiation process. The agent used classical machine learning techniques to predict how people make and respond to offers during the negotiation, how they reveal information and their response to potential revelation actions by the agent. The agent was evaluated empirically in an extensive empirical study spanning hundreds of human subjects. Results show that the agent was able (1) to make offers that were beneficial to people while not compromising its own benefit;(2) to incrementally reveal information to people in a way that increased its expected performance. The agent also had a positive effect on people's strategy, in that people playing the agent performed significantly higher than people playing other people. This work demonstrates the efficacy of combining machine learning with opponent modeling techniques towards the design of computer agents for negotiating with people in settings of incomplete information. In this paper we study state-space realizations of Linear and Time-Invariant (LTI) systems. Motivated by biochemical reaction networks, Gonçalves and Warnick have recently introduced the notion of a Dynamical Structure Functions (DSF), a particular factorization of the system's transfer function matrix that elucidates the interconnection structure in dependencies between manifest variables. We build onto this work by showing an intrinsic connection between a DSF and certain sparse left coprime factorizations. By establishing this link, we provide an interesting systems.theoretic interpretation of sparsity patterns of coprime factors. In particular we show how the sparsity of these coprime factors allows for a given LTI system to be implemented as a network of LTI sub-systems. We examine possible applications in distributed control such as the design of a LTI controller that can be implemented over a network with a pre-specified topology. ©2013 IEEE.

The increasing availability of large-scale trajectory data provides us great opportunity to explore them for knowledge discovery in transportation systems.using advanced data mining techniques. Nowadays, large number of taxicabs in major metropolitan cities are equipped with a GPS device. Since taxis are on the road nearly 24 h a day (with drivers changing shifts), they can now act as reliable sensors to monitor the behavior of traffic. In this article, we use GPS data from taxis to monitor the emergence of unexpected behavior in the Beijing metropolitan area, which has the potential to estimate and improve traffic conditions in advance. We adapt likelihood ratio test statistic (LRT) which have previously been mostly used in epidemiological studies to describe traffic patterns. To the best of our knowledge the use of LRT in traffic domain is not only novel but results in accurate and rapid detection of anomalous behavior. Crown Copyright © 2013 Published by Elsevier B.V. Braess's paradox states that removing a part of a network may improve the players' latency at equilibrium. In this work, we study the approximability of the best subnetwork problem for the class of random Gn,p instances proven prone to Braess's paradox by (Roughgarden and Valiant, RSA 2010) and (Chung and Young, WINE 2010). Our main contribution is a polynomial-time approximation-preserving reduction of the best subnetwork problem for such instances to the corresponding problem in a simplified network where all neighbors of s and t are directly connected by 0 latency edges. Building on this, we obtain an approximation scheme that for any constant Ε > 0 and with high probability, computes a subnetwork and an Ε-Nash flow with maximum latency at most (1 + Ε)L* + Ε, where L* is the equilibrium latency of the best subnetwork. Our approximation scheme runs in polynomial time if the random network has average degree O(poly(ln n)) and the traffic rate is O(poly(ln ln n)), and in quasipolynomial time for average degrees up to o(n) and traffic rates of O(poly(ln n)). © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

At the present time, there are so many computation requests of the mobile computing on clouding environment. In this paper, we addressed on the size and computation reduction during image transferring to the mobile device. To deal with this problem, the image processing techniques such as Discrete Wavelet Transformation (DWT), block Average Pixels Value (APV), and block Representation Pixel (RP) have been used to compress images. The key concept of our proposed light-weighted image coding is a lossy image compression technique which's compress codes is a downscaled original image. Moreover, when the cloud sends the compressed small sized image to the mobile device for browsing, the decompression process Inverse Discrete Wavelet Transform (IDWT) or Neighboring Pixels Average Value (NPAV) restoration scheme can be used to backfill the small sized image to reconstruct a lossy original image if necessary. The advantage of our decompression concept is no extra information to be needed but only the small image itself for undergoing computation on the mobile device. The experimental results showed that, the lossy image Lena restored from its small sized version has PSNR 25.9 by IDWT, and the time cost of image compression and restoration only 0.0312 seconds.
