In an era of heightened digital interconnectedness, businesses increasingly rely on third-party vendors to enhance their operational capabilities. However, this growing dependency introduces significant security risks, making it crucial to develop a robust framework to mitigate potential vulnerabilities. This paper proposes a comprehensive secure framework for managing third-party vendor risk, integrating blockchain technology to ensure transparency, traceability, and immutability in vendor assessments and interactions. By leveraging blockchain, the framework enhances the integrity of vendor security audits, ensuring that vendor assessments remain up-to-date and tamperproof. This proposed framework leverages smart contracts to reduce human error while ensuring real-time monitoring of compliance and security controls. By evaluating critical security controls - such as data encryption, access control mechanisms, multi-factor authentication, and zero-trust architecture - this approach strengthens an organization's defense against emerging cyber threats. Additionally, continuous monitoring enabled by blockchain ensures the immutability and transparency of vendor compliance processes. In this paper, a case study on iHealth's transition to AWS Cloud demonstrates the practical implementation of the framework, showing a significant reduction in vulnerabilities and marked improvement in incident response times. Through the adoption of this blockchain-enabled approach, organizations can mitigate vendor risks, streamline compliance, and enhance their overall security posture. Our findings highlight the importance of employing blockchain to enforce security controls and maintain compliance with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA. Public bus stops in India are becoming more crowded due to the country's fast population expansion. People wait a long time for buses to come, then suddenly congregate around them when they do, packing the buses with people and pushing them up into the footboards, which causes accidents. An additional concern of overcrowding is theft. All of this is the result of numerous bus stops not having adequate information on when busses would arrive. The proposed work paves a very important role for the passengers. The passengers will be provided with the information of the arrival of next bus, seat occupancy and the total passengers inside the bus. The information about the seat occupancy, in-passengers and out-passengers is done with the help of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags. The arrival of the next bus is determined by calculating the duration of the buses that are near using RFID readers placed in different bus stations. The count and the frequency will be interfaced in the web application. The passengers can check the application to know the occupancy and today's society where people can catch the right bus at the station and at the right time. This will solve the problems like waiting in bus stops and wasting time and going in a crowded bus. © 2024 IEEE.

To assist Java programming learning of novice students, we have developed the web-based Java Programming Learning Assistant System (JPLAS). It provides various exercise problems to cultivate code reading and code writing skills to support studies at various levels. The code writing problem (CWP) asks a student to write a source code to pass the given test code where the correctness is verified by running them on JUnit. Previously, we implemented the answer platform for students to solve CWP assignments with the automatic runs. However, the teacher needs to manually run them one by one to verify a lot of source codes from students. In this paper, we implement the answer code validation program that automatically verifies all the source codes for one test code and reports the number of tests that each code passed with the CSV file. For evaluations, we applied the program to a total of 999 source codes from 12-43 students for a total of 45 test codes that were assigned in the Java programming course in Okayama university, including for final examinations. The application results confirm the validity and effectiveness of the proposal. © 2023 IEEE.

The sixth-generation (6G) wireless communication networks are envisioned to deliver improved Quality of Services (QoS) such as data-rate, latency, localization, etc., compared to 5G services. This demand will mainly arise due to the massive Internet of Things (IoT) connections among billions of embedded devices. It is worth noting that these IoT devices are constrained in nature in terms of memory, computation and most importantly power. Low-power wireless computing necessitates a link-layer technology that considers the aforementioned IoT device requirements such as low-power, low data-rate, long-range and energy efficient reliable communications. Long Range Radio (LoRa) technology has recently become widely popular to facilitate low-power, long-range communication, while other similar technologies struggle to achieve long-range transmissions. The LoRA standard defines several PHY and MAC sub-layer specifications for Low-Power Wide Area Networks (LPWAN) that can be used to build several IoT applications. With 6G communications, an IoT application is expected to consist of hundreds of devices connected at a time, and this will need a proper scheduling mechanism among these devices for optimal performance. The LoRa standard does not define any scheduling mechanism and leaves it to the research community to explore. In this paper, we propose a distributed scheduling mechanism under the supervision of a common LoRa gateway. The proposed mechanism focuses on a Lightweight DynamicScheduling (LIDS) scheme to minimize loss in data transmissions through collisions. The proposed mechanism optimizes the power consumption to achieve the desired level of QoS requirements such as throughput and latency. © 2022 IEEE.

We are interested in the construction of software that can act as scientific assistants to domain specialists. It is expected that such assistants will be needed to accelerate the identification of ways to address complex problems requiring urgent solutions. In this paper, our focus is not on a specific scientific problem, but on the software-engineering of such ‘science accelerators’. Recent developments in ‘No Code’ techniques would seem to suggest that scientist can simply hypothesise solutions simply by conversing with a large language model (LLM). However, for complex scientific problems, this seems unlikely given the current state of LLM technology. What does appear feasible is that a software engineer can use LLMs to rapidly construct programs for use by a domain-specialist, including the specialist’s requirements expressed in natural language. We propose the design of an interactive form of ‘structured’ inductive programming in which a software-engineer and an LLM collaboratively construct an ‘assistant’ for a scientific data analysis. The paper describes a simple implementation called iStrucInd that adapts a ‘2-way Intelligibility’ protocol to implement the interaction between the software engineer and the LLM. We test the tool on two different non-trivial scientific data analysis tasks. Specifically, we compare the system constructed by iStrucInd against systems.constructed manually and by Low Code/No Code methods along dimensions of: (a) program performance;(b) program quality;and (c) programming effort. The results show iStrucInd allows a software engineer to develop better programs faster suggesting interactive structured induction can play a useful role in the rapid construction of scientific assistants. © 2025, CC BY-NC-ND.

Due to the frequency of eye illnesses, effective and precise diagnostic instruments are required. This work suggests an approach that uses low quality fundus images with deep transfer learning more precisely, the EfficientNetB0 architecture to improve eye health diagnosis. We tackle the problem caused by the quality of fundus photographs that are commonly found in clinical settings, which frequently display noise and abnormalities. Our methodology consists of pretraining the EfficientNetB0 model on a sizable dataset of excellent fundus photos, followed by fine-tuning it on a dataset of poor fundus photos. By employing this transfer learning technique, the model enhances its diagnostic capabilities by learning to identify significant features from the low-quality images. We ran tests on a variety of datasets that included fundus photos of varying degrees of deterioration in order to assess our approach. As compared to conventional techniques, the results reveal a significant improvement in diagnostic accuracy, demonstrating the effectiveness of deep transfer learning for improving eye health diagnosis from difficult fundus images. With fused features from MobileNet and DenseNet-121 models, the ANN specifically achieved accuracies of 98.5% for cataracts, 99.1% for diabetic retinopathy, 99% for glaucoma, and 99.5% for normal conditions. © 2024 IEEE.

The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) refers to the use of interconnected smart devices, sensors, and other technologies to create a network of intelligent systems.that can monitor and manage industrial processes. 6TiSCH (IPv6 over the Time Slotted Channel Hopping mode of IEEE 802.15.4e) as an enabling technology facilitates low-power and low-latency communication between IoT devices in industrial environments. The Routing Protocol for Low power and lossy networks (RPL), which is used as the de-facto routing protocol for 6TiSCH networks is observed to suffer from several limitations, especially during congestion in the network. Therefore, there is an immediate need for some modifications to the RPL to deal with this problem. Under traffic load which keeps on changing continuously at different instants of time, the proposed mechanism aims at finding the appropriate parent for a node that can forward the packet to the destination through the least congested path with minimal packet loss. This facilitates congestion management under dynamic traffic loads. For this, a new metric for routing using the concept of exponential weighting has been proposed, which takes the number of packets present in the queue of the node into account when choosing the parent at a particular instance of time. Additionally, the paper proposes a parent selection and swapping mechanism for congested networks. Performance evaluations are carried out in order to validate the proposed work. Harmonizing open banking in the European Union: an analysis of PSD2 compliance and interrelation with cybersecurity frameworks and standards

This paper focuses on the security protocols enacted in banking transactions across the European Economic Area (EEA), as stipulated by the Second or Revised Payment Service Directive (commonly referred to as ‘PSD2’ or simply ‘the Directive’). The study aims to comprehensively analyse the implementation and efficacy of these security measures within the specified jurisdiction. The Directive incorporates fundamental rights and obligations that all stakeholders are compelled to adhere to and delineates specific security measures and standards that both traditional banking institutions and third-party providers (TPP) are mandated to implement. In particular, one of the cardinal mandates for banking and financial institutions under PSD2 is the obligation to facilitate third-party access to customer data via open application programming interfaces (API). While this open banking paradigm and the consequent proliferation of data sharing unquestionably bring about various advantages, such as enhanced consumer choice and market competition, they concurrently expose the financial ecosystem to a slew of potential security vulnerabilities and privacy risks. Upon conducting a comprehensive review of the security requirements and measures stipulated under PSD2 and a comparative analysis with essential cybersecurity frameworks and standards (NIS2, Cybersecurity Act, GDPR, ISO 27001:22 and PCI DSS), we have ascertained a discernible lack of harmonisation and clarity concerning the technical security specifications for its effective implementation. This lacuna substantiates the challenges banks face in fully grasping the extensive spectrum of compliance obligations mandated by PSD2. The aim of this research is to offer a valuable contribution to both the comprehension and the pragmatic deployment of security standards in the context of banking transactions, as regulated by the PSD2. The Transportation Cybersecurity Center for Advanced Research and Education (CYBER-CARE) is a US Department of Transportation (USDOT) Tier-1 University Transportation Center (UTC) funded in 2023. CYBER-CARE primarily focuses on the USDOT statutory research priority area of 'Reducing Transportation Cybersecurity Risks.' CYBER-CARE aims to establish a fundamental knowledge basis and explore advanced theory to mitigate the impacts of large-scale cyberattacks on transportation infrastructure and connected and automated vehicle (CAV) systems. The research projects at CYBER-CARE will develop conceptual frameworks, construct comprehensive datasets, explore novel analytical approaches, support the implementation of public policies and infrastructure investments, and build a high-quality industry workforce through education. All CYBER-CARE research projects can be organized into four thrusts: CAV cybersecurity, transportation data security, advanced traffic management system (ATMS) cybersecurity, and next-generation transportation cybersecurity systems. In addition, CYBER-CARE will accelerate industry collaborations, foster new technologies, and provide professionals with the skills and opportunities needed to become successful leaders in their fields. Notably, as CYBER-CARE will prioritize engagement with underrepresented minorities, these communities stand to benefit from professional development training in transportation cybersecurity. © 2023 IEEE.

information technology (IT) plays a crucial role in business operations most organizations rely on IT resources for gaining competitive advantages and creating innovative and continuous values. This increased the importance of enterprise IT governance (EGIT) and developed the recent version of the control objectives for information and related technology (COBIT), COBIT 2019 framework. It identifies the seven components of an effective EGIT system: processes, organizational structures, information flows and items, people, skills and competencies, policies and procedures, culture, ethics and behavior, services, infrastructure, and applications. The EGIT maturity level (ITGML) assessment helps to align the EGIT with strategic objectives. This study aims to assess the ITGML of the Yemeni telecom sector using COBIT 2019 framework. A quantitative method was applied, with a 73.6% response rate (148 out of 201 questionnaires collected). The study revealed that the current ITGML is 3.48, reflecting a defined maturity level. The findings suggested that IT governance practices based on COBIT 2019 are well documented and standardized within the Yemeni telecom sector. © 2024 IEEE.
