Over the last decades there has been a growing interest in modeling human performance and analyzing human activity and human operator behavior to improve system design. A variety of tools and approaches which are based on task analysis methods and tools have been proposed. As technology advances and tasks become more demanding, human work changes increasing the need to create new methodologies and tools for task analysis to face the new challenges. The main aim of this research is to develop a new framework and model for simulation of human tasks performed by individuals with varying levels of skills, considering operator workload and human errors. In order to achieve this goal and fill the current gaps, a review of existing task analysis methods and tools is conducted and a model named UTASiMo is proposed. In addition, the Unified modeling Language is used to describe the conceptual model and illustrate the different constructs and concepts included in the model. Finally, we present a case study and a preliminary simulation model designed in AnyLogic TM .

This paper presents a mathematical modeling technique that allows for formulating a farmer decision problem. We use fuzzy logic and binary integer programming respectively to represent the factors and decision utilities in the problem. We will briefly look at the data requirements for this model. The techniques used in determining the fuzzy rule base will be discussed. We will show the application of artificial neural networks for determining the rule base in our model. A mathematical representation of the system will be created, which can act as an approximation for any problem formulation. Finally, we will use all these techniques on a sample problem, which uses simulated data.

Real-time mirror reflection is employed in many virtual reality applications to achieve visuo-haptic collocation. Its use, however, necessitates adjustments to the original model as well any used input devices to compensate for changes due to image reversion. This paper introduces a design and implementation of a generic configuration component for virtual environments that adjusts image characteristics and haptic interfaces to accommodate such setups while preserving the properties and features of the original model. Furthermore, this work executes running multiple display viewports for the same virtual environment synchronously. This work accomplishes a significant step in the development of a surgical simulator for the Nuss Procedure surgery performed to correct Pectus Excavatum, a congenital deformity of the anterior chest wall.

A method is proposed to whiten 1-f-type background noise in electroencephalogram data by a nonlinear spectral transformation from the frequency domain to a newly-defined ∝-pitch domain. Based on the α-pitch spectra of steady-state visual evoked potentials, an algorithm called octave-averaged spectral rectification is applied which simultaneously attenuates 1-f noise while enhancing resonance peaks. This has important potential benefits for gamma-band brain-computer interfaces.

In our paper, we explore the use of a generic crop growth model that can be integrated into a decision support system for farmers. In this paper, we present the implementation of a Multigrid ODE solver in SOFA framework. By combining the stability advantage of coarse meshes and the transient detail preserving virtue of fine meshes, Multigrid ODE solver computes more efficiently than classic ODE solvers based on a single level discretization. With the ever wider adoption of the SOFA framework in many surgical simulation projects, introducing this Multigrid ODE solver into SOFA’s pool of ODE solvers shall benefit the entire community. This contribution potentially has broad ramifications in the surgical simulation research community, given that in a single-resolution system, a constitutively realistic interactive tissue response, which presupposes large elements, is in direct conflict with the need to represent clinically relevant critical tissues in the simulation, which are typically be comprised of small elements.
