In this paper we investigate implementing a Precision Time Base (PTB) technique to improve measurement jitter performance of digital sampling oscilloscopes (DSO) on a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). To achieve better measurements, two reference signals are used to correct time-base errors and minimize jitter added by the DSO itself (minimize measurement jitter). We show experimentally that using the aforementioned technique, measurement jitter can be reduced from 1.3 pico-seconds (ps) to 280 femto-seconds (fs) (depending on the data rate and the pattern length) on a high-speed DSO.

Estimating the soft error rate (SER) for processors is imperative to adopt a proper hardening technique for increasing the system reliability. Aiming to estimate the functional error rates, we propose to scale the baseline SER estimated with physical memory sizes by the fraction of architecturally correct execution (ACE) bits of memory elements (SRAM, caches and registers). We compared the scaled SER with the measured SER under neutron irradiation for a multi-core processor and confirmed a good consistency.

Anaerobic digestion is one of the best options for producing valuable end products (biogas and bio-fertilizer). In this study, the impact of co-digestion of waste activated sludge with pretreated wheat straw on biogas production and digestate characteristics was investigated. Thermo-alkaline pretreatment of straw has been conducted using NaOH, KOH, and Na2CO3 at different durations (1, 3, and 5h). A feedforward neural network (FFNN) and Logistic models, and SPSS analysis were applied on the experimental data to predict biogas and investigate the significance and the relationship among the variables. NaOH pretreatment for 5h showed the best treatment conditions;the biogas yield reached to 6.59 folds compared to without treatment, and removal ratio of total solids, total volatile solids, chemical oxygen demand, and microbial count reached 63.52 %, 74.60 %, 78.15 %, and 82.22 %, respectively. Methane content reached 67.50 %, indicating a high quality of the biogas. The thermo-alkaline pretreatment induced significant effects on biogas production and digestate characteristics that can be used as bio-fertilizers. Experimental data were successfully modeled for predicting biogas production using the applied models;R2 reached 0.9846 and 0.999 for Logistic and FFNN models, respectively. © 2023, The Authors. The study clarified spatial single mode laser interaction with measured pulse based parabolic index multimode fiber. Peak power level margin, maximum/minimum signal amplitude margin after parabolic index multimode fiber are measured with core radius of 25 μm, cladding thickness of 10 μm, refractive index peak of 1.4142, length of 300 m, and refractive index step of 1%. Maximum signal power margin against spectral frequency after PIN light detector based parabolic fiber properties is tested under the same operating parameters. The signal power amplitude/power within parabolic index multimode fiber is also measured based on variations of fiber lengths and relative refractive index step. The study implies the multimode graded index fibers with parabolic or near parabolic index profile cores have transmission bandwidths than other multimode fibers. © 2022 Walter de Gruyter GmbH, Berlin/Boston.

The capacity of finite state channels (FSCs) with feedback has been expressed by a limit of a sequence of multi-letter expressions. Despite many efforts, a closed-form single-letter capacity characterization remains unknown to date. In this paper, the feedback capacity is studied from a fundamental algorithmic point of view by addressing the question of whether or not the capacity can be algorithmically computed. To this aim, the concept of Turing machines is used, which provides fundamental performance limits of digital computers. It is shown that the feedback capacity of FSCs is not Banach-Mazur computable and therefore also not Borel-Turing computable. As a consequence, it is shown that either achievability or converse (or both) is not Banach-Mazur computable, which means that there are FSCs for which it is impossible to find computable tight upper and lower bounds. Furthermore, it is shown that the feedback capacity cannot be characterized as the maximization of a finite-letter formula of entropic quantities.

Being an essential component of 5G and beyond, the Internet of Drones (IoD) enables a legitimate operator to employ several drones to carry out distinct missions in restricted airspace under the control of the GCS. Communication with the external user (mobile operator), the central server, and other drones is accomplished via a public wireless medium, which is vulnerable to numerous threats and needs robust authentication. Various authentication schemes have been presented, some of which have design issues, excessive communication, or lack of a delicate balance of security and performance due to modular exponentiation. Therefore, this article proposes a secure authentication scheme based on asymmetric cryptography to address the issues above. The security of the proposed scheme is formally scrutinized through the RoR model, ProVerif. Furthermore, the performance is analyzed through computation, communication, and storage overheads. The comparative analysis shows that the proposed scheme balances security with performance and can be implemented in a real-world IoD environment.

Driving in the wrong direction is one of the main reasons that cause road accidents in Thailand. To efficiently detect wrong direction driving vehicles, we proposed a system that can track those moving vehicles from CCTVs using deep learning and image processing techniques. Our proposed system is composed of two main algorithms: Road Lane Boundary detection from CCTV algorithm (RLB-CCTV) and Majority-Based Correct Direction Detection algorithm (MBCDD). In this paper, we introduced the RLB-CCTV algorithm and the enhanced version of MBCDD algorithms for detecting road boundaries and wrong-direction driving vehicles. Based on our experiments, our system can identify the road lane boundary and track vehicles driving in the wrong direction on each lane with an accuracy of 96.61%.

This article describes a miniaturized, ultra-wideband monopole antenna with dimensions of 23.00 x 20.00 x 1.60 mm 3 (0.23λ 0 x 0.23λ 0 x 0.016λ 0 ) designed for sub-6 GHz 5G wireless applications. The suggested layout is compatible with sub-6 GHz 5G, including satellite X-band (7.5-8.5 GHz), ITU n77 (3.3-4.2 GHz), and n79 (4.4-5 GHz) bands, 502.11a WLAN (5.15 - 5.85 GHz), and WiMAX bands (3.5/5.5 GHz). The suggested structure uses a fusion shape of rectangular, triangular, and trapezoidal slits on the ground plane and isosceles triangle, octagonal slot on the metal patch to improve the radiation characteristics and impedance bandwidth. The addition of rectangular slits which are incorporated into the bottom plane just below the microstrip line and trapezoidal-shaped slots shifts the lower cut-off frequency towards the left, while the octagon-shaped slot and the isosceles triangular slit on the radiating patch shift the higher cut-off frequency towards the right. The suggested structure operates over the range from 3.10 to 18.87GHz, having an equivalent fractional bandwidth of 143.56% and a peak gain of around 5.37 dBi. The antenna has a radiation efficiency of 80.00% and displays a decent S 11 ≤-10 dB throughout the bandwidth. Results from measurement and simulation are good in agreement.

Data privacy has become the center of attention to many researchers and engineers. With high speed data transmission, data privacy can be at risk. Data stream anonymization is a fairly new and effective technique that is being currently investigated. It aims to protect data from third-party attackers. A user must keep in mind that when applying anonymization on a dataset, there will be a tradeoff between data utility and the risk of data identification. I n this paper, w e propose various anonymization cores that can be used to hide the sensitive parts of the data. The hardware implementation on FPGA of these cores is also discussed. Each implementation takes into consideration the trade-off between the throughput and the power consumption in addition to the application type and specifications. The first architecture treats a simple application where two anonymization techniques are used (i.e. Perturbation and character masking). The second implementation requires more complex anonymization techniques and extends K-anonymity criteria and L-diversity for more sensitive applications where data identification is crucial. Results are compared with existing work implementations and many improvements are applied in terms of resource utilization and throughput.

In this paper, we study multi-hop device-to-device (D2D) communications in cognitive Internet-of-Things (IoT) networks, where all D2D devices harvest energy from a power beacon through energy beamforming to transmit their signals to a destination with the existence of a multiple antennas primary receiver. Under Nakagami-m fading channels, the exact and asymptotic expressions for the outage probability (OP) of the considered system are derived then validated by Monte Carlo simulations. We then develop a deep neural network (DNN) for the OP evaluation with a small root-mean-square error. The designed DNN model can predict the OP with high accuracy while it drastically reduces the execution time, expediting a real-time configuration for multi-hop D2D communications in cognitive IoT networks with energy harvesting. © 2020 IEEE.
