The most important challenge in antenna design is increasing its gain because antenna gain is considered one of the main factors in determining antenna performance for applications in communication engineering. The paper tackles antenna enhancement by optimum antenna design for geometrical parameters of Rectangular-Shaped Slotted Single-Band Microstrip Patch Antenna. To increase the gain, the researchers used an optimization process of slot insertion in the antenna patch plane. The sizes of slots in the patch have been effectively changed to increase the gain. The design improved the directivity of the antenna as well. The dimensions of the patch for the array-shaped antenna are (21×12×1.6) mm. Its substrate dimensions are (30 x 30 x 1.6) mm. The design is tested by the frequencies 3.1 GHz-10.6 GHz Ultra-Wideband. For single-band 10.4 GHz, the proposed antenna gain is 5.06 dB, and VSWR is less than 2. The design is simulated successfully by computer simulation technology. The research technique causes gain enhancement with the range of 1.2 dB to 5.06 dB. The technique provides high gain at a single band for wireless communication applications.

Based on one of the fundamental principles of the educational model of the European Higher Education Area concerning the development of the capacity to achieve lifelong learning, this project has been developed in which a set of active teaching activities have been implemented for the acquisition of key competences in the challenge of achieving one of the most important goals that any educational system must provide: lifelong learning, thereby facilitating the incorporation of new university graduates into the world of work. This project has been implemented on the subject of Power Electronics. However, to facilitate the transfer to other subjects, the catalogue of active teaching activities is sufficiently varied to make it easy to extrapolate and use in other subjects, thanks to the fact that teachers have a wide variety of activities to choose from the set. Finally, a survey has been drawn to evaluate this new active methodology's satisfaction, impact and improvement to know the students' perspectives once they have worked with this catalogue of activities. © 2022 IEEE.

Visual simultaneous localization and mapping (VS-LAM) is the useful algorithm for localizing and mapping especially for the indoor mobile robot application. The VSLAM works based on features extracted from surrounding images. The limitation of VSLAM is that a speed of its relocalization algorithm is slow due to a large number of candidates. This research aims to improve the relocalization of VSLAM by using semantic information as a new constraint to determine candidates. The basic idea is to use a deep neural network which is YOLO, to classify objects from an image frame and create a high-level feature array to represent objects in the frame. By using this array, the algorithm can discard many poor candidates and decrease the computation time of the relocalization process. The proposed approach was implemented into the 3 popular VSLAM frameworks which are ORB-SLAM2, OpenVSLAM and RTAB-MAP. Experiments have been conducted on a pre-record video with known ground truth. The results showed that by using the proposed approach, the execution time of the relocalization process was decreased for all selected VSLAM frameworks. © 2022 IEEE.

Embedded index coding, known as device-to-device index coding, is a promising transmission scheme that effectively reduces the number of transmissions required in device-to-device communications. Leveraging spatial multiplexing gain attained with multiple antennas in wireless environment, this paper explores the benefits of spatially multiplexed embedded index codes through the joint design of embedded index coding and multicast beamformers. Through our simulations, we are able to demonstrate significant improvements obtained by the proposed scheme in terms of spatially multiplexed embedded index coding. © 2023 IEEE.

Separating sources is a common challenge in applications such as speech enhancement and telecommunications, where distinguishing between overlapping sounds helps reduce interference and improve signal quality. Additionally, in multichannel systems, correct calibration and synchronization are essential to separate and locate source signals accurately. This work introduces a method for blind source separation and estimation of the Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) of signals in the time-frequency domain. Our proposed method effectively separates signal mixtures into their original source spectrograms while simultaneously estimating the relative delays between receivers, using Optimal Transport (OT) theory. By exploiting the structure of the OT problem, we combine the separation and delay estimation processes into a unified framework, optimizing the system through a block coordinate descent algorithm. We analyze the performance of the OT-based estimator under various noise conditions and compare it with conventional TDOA and source separation methods. Numerical simulation results demonstrate that our proposed approach can achieve a significant level of accuracy across diverse noise scenarios for physical speech signals in both TDOA and source separation tasks. As the Internet of Things (IoT) is poised to become a global phenomenon, it is imperative to schedule the transmissions of IoT devices effectively and in a fair way. Leveraging Long Range (LoRa) technology, we can achieve transmissions that consume minimal power while covering vast distances, aligning with the requirements of IoT devices. However, the proximity of multiple devices within the same area often leads to packet interference and collisions. To address this, our study introduces a pioneering scheduling method utilizing a constellation of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites to manage and streamline the transmission of data from End Devices (EDs). This method employs two LEO satellites: the first satellite assigns the sequence for EDs to dispatch their packets, and the second collects these packets in the predetermined sequence before forwarding them to the LoRa Network Server (LNS). For urgent (URG) communications, EDs can alert the first satellite, which then coordinates with the LNS to schedule these priority transmissions. The LNS generates a schedule that is relayed to the second satellite, informing EDs with URG packets of their specific transmission times and channels. This scheduling approach is designed to optimize channel usage effectively while accommodating the transmission of urgent data.

The presented research introduces a new advanced data analytics methodology for climate change impact assessment and adaptive planning that utilizes machine learning and deep-learning techniques. Quantitative analysis was performed over several databases such as GHCN, ERA5, National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) and JRA-55 in addition to CRU for a thorough assessment of the proposed methodology. In climate modeling, the Convolutional Neural networks (CNN) showed better accuracy than ERA5 and JRA-55 which outperformed Global Historical Climatology Network (GHCN) with lower Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Root Mean Squared Error values. The Early Warning System, which was built using the LSTM network algorithm, had a higher accuracy of 0.90 and recall rate of 0.88 especially with JRA-55 proving its effectiveness in early detection for extreme weather events before they occur. The RL-based adaptive planning component performed well across all datasets, with ERA5 reaching the best feedback loop performance score of 94%. The precision agriculture optimization, which was enabled by Random Forest revealed different accuracy and AUC-ROC values across various datasets showing flexibility. Against international climate agreements, the overall alignment score was 0.78 with ERA5 being slightly better at 0.80 using Support Vector Machines (SVM). These quantitative assessments accentuate the practicality, efficacy, and applicability of this methodology in various datasets making it an apt tool for evidence-based decisions on climate resilience strategies at the global level. © 2024 IEEE.

Optical wireless communication (OWC) systems with multiple light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have recently been explored to support energy-limited devices via simultaneous lightwave information and power transfer (SLIPT). The energy consumption, however, becomes considerable by increasing the number of incorporated LEDs. This paper proposes a joint dimming (JD) scheme that lowers the consumed power of a SLIPT-enabled OWC system by controlling the number of active LEDs. We further enhance the data rate of this system by utilizing rate splitting multiple access (RSMA). More specifically, we formulate a data rate maximization problem to optimize the beamforming design, LED selection and RSMA rate adaptation that guarantees the power budget of the OWC transmitter, as well as the quality-of-service (QoS) and an energy harvesting level for users. We propose a dynamic resource allocation solution based on proximal policy optimization (PPO) reinforcement learning. In simulations, the optimal dimming level is determined to initiate a trade-off between the data rate and power consumption. In this paper, we present a compact, rectangular microstrip patch antenna with small rectangular slits designed for 5G wireless applications in the 38GHz band. The antenna is built on a Roger RT duroid 5880 substrate with a relative permittivity of 2.2, a height of 0.381 mm, and a loss tangent of 0.0009. The microstrip line technique is utilized for power feeding to the radiating patch. To enhance the antenna's performance, three slits are incorporated into the front side of the radiating patch. The design, simulations, and optimizations are conducted using the High-Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS), while computer Simulation technology (CST) is used for validating the HFSS results. The antenna has a compact overall size of 6.12 × 6 × 0.381 mm 3 . Moreover, the proposed antenna exhibits impressive characteristics, including a resonance frequency of 38.67 GHz, a reflection coefficient (S11) of - 47.82 dB, and an impedance bandwidth of 2.35 GHz (37.45 GHz - 39.8 GHz). In addition, the antenna's gain varies from 7.84 dBi at the lower frequency of the operational band to 7.9 dBi at the higher frequency, with a maximum gain of 8.037 dBi at the resonance frequency. Likewise, the radiation efficiency is above 99% across the operational band. The results obtained from both simulators are in a good agreement and surpass those of many previously published antennas, indicating that the proposed antenna is a promising solution for 5G wireless communication applications.

An artifact-free ECG is essential during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to decide adequate therapy. Chest compressions (CCs) cause artifacts that alter the ECG waveform. This study analyzes the effectiveness of CPR artifact suppression filters to restore the ECG. For that purpose, artificial mixtures of artifact-free ECGs and CPR artifacts mixed at different signal-to-noise ratios (SNRin) were used. Several configurations of three state-of-the-art filters were compared: Least Mean Squares (LMS), Recursive Least Squares (RLS) and Kalman. Performance was evaluated by comparing the artifact-free ECGs and the filtered ECGs in terms of the restored SNR (SNRres) and the Pearson's Correlation coefficient (PCC). RLS was the best option with a mean SNRres of 3.3 dB at the optimal working point, slightly above the LMS algorithm in terms of SNRres. The similarity of the restored and the clean ECG increased with SNRin, obtaining PCC values above 0.6 for SNRin > -5 dB. In conclusion, suitable filtering methods to restore ECG waveforms during CPR were proposed, that would enhance the reliability of the ECG analysis during CCs. © 2022 Creative Commons.
