In order to achieve the secure broadcasting for xml document, an improved encryption scheme and a new method to reconstruct xml document are proposed based on the pool encryption. It adopts the strategy of making the secret intermediate node dummy and moving the secret leaf nodes into pool;about the labeling method, it uses the ring-shaped structure to organize the sibling nodes in a ring, which can search and justify the relationships in any two nodes quickly in xml document, also can rebuild the xml document after decryption quickly. The experiment result proves that the encryption scheme protects the secret nodes effectively, and the novel labeling method not only improves the efficiency in time and space, but also solves the dynamic updating problem when the nodes are inserted or deleted in xml document, it is a good safeguard for secure xml broadcasting.

The most common brain-computer interface (BCI) systems use electroencephalographic (EEG) signals to communicate human cognitive or sensory-motor brain activities. Those non-invasive BCI systems rely on large number (up to 128) of wet (using conductive gel) electrodes for higher detection accuracy and good signal to noise ratio (SNR). They are studied and designed primarily with focus on medical applications. The electrodes are usually mounted on a special cap and connected through multiple wires. The proper positioning of the cap requires assistance and takes significant amount of time. In this work we review the principles for EEG signal processing and feature extraction most suitable for applications in consumer electronics. Further, we propose a motor imagery brain-computer interface (BCI) based system, using only two active easy to set dry electrodes connected wirelessly with a consumer electronic device. The proposed system relies on the optimal use of event related synchronization (ERS) and desynchronization (DRS) across three distinct EEG frequency bands in order to improve the detection and reduce the training time to only 10 sec. We present our ongoing research investigating the detection accuracy with different signal preprocessing techniques and feature extraction methods. The proposed system aims at making brain-computer interfaces popular with consumer products, providing a more natural human computer interaction (HCI).

We present a tile-based GPU design which is modeled in a full system simulation platform. The full system simulation platform includes a functional Linux-based system on which the GPU is incorporated for design explorations. To accurately estimate the execution time of the application graphics software, an execution time synchronization mechanism for the virtual platform is developed. We extend the Ericsson Texture Compression (ETC) scheme in our GPU to support alpha compression. In this way, we are able to reduce the external memory accesses to about one sixth, and speed up the rasterization engine (RE) by 35%. We also optimize the hardware-and-software data flow through the full system design platform and obtain significant improvements.

This paper presents a real-time and memory-efficient arrhythmia detection system that uses antidictionary coding for the analysis and classification of electrocardiograms (ECGs). The measured ECG signals are encoded using a lossless antidictionary encoder, and the system subsequently uses the compression rate to distinguish between normal beats and arrhythmia. An automated training data procedure is used to construct the automatons, which are probabilistic models used to compress the ECG signals, and to determine the threshold value for detecting the arrhythmia. Real-time computer simulations with samples from the MIT-BIH arrhythmia database show that the averages of sensitivity and specificity of the proposed system are 96.6% and 94.4% for premature ventricular contraction detection, respectively. The automatons are shown to be quickly extracted from training data, and they require only 13 kilobytes. The low complexity and low memory requirements make the system particularly suitable for implementation in portable ECG monitors.

Implementation attacks pose a serious threat for the security of cryptographic devices and there are a multitude of countermeasures that are used to prevent them. Two countermeasures used in implementations of block ciphers to increase the complexity of such attacks are the use of dummy rounds and redundant computation with consistency checks to prevent fault attacks. In this paper we present several countermeasures based on the idea of infective computation. Our countermeasures ensure that a fault injected into a cipher, dummy, or redundant round will infect the ciphertext such that an attacker cannot derive any information on the secret key being used. This has one clear advantage: the propagation of faults prevents an attacker from being able to conduct any fault analysis on any corrupted ciphertexts. As a consequence, there is no need for any test at the end of an implementation to determine if a fault has been injected and a ciphertext can always be returned. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

One of the possible solutions is to use space division multiplexing in order to overcome the capacity crunch. Few mode fibers (FMF) have attracted a lot of attention in the recent years, however still a lot of research is required to enable transmission over FMF. One of the problems with the realization of FMF transmission is that these fibers have a modal dispersion which results in high number of equalization taps which might make the FMFs impractical. The complexities of common equalizer schemes are analyzed in this paper in terms of complex multiplications per bit. It is found that training symbol based equalizers have significantly lower complexity compared to blind approaches for long-haul transmission. Among the training symbol based schemes, OFDM requires the lowest complexity for crosstalk compensation in a mode-division multiplexed receiver. The main challenge for training symbol based approaches is the increased data rate due to extra overhead required for cyclic prefix and training symbols. In order to achieve 2000 km transmission, the modal dispersion must be below 6 ps/km when the OFDM specific overhead is limited to 10%. This shows that for few mode transmission systems the reduction of modal delay is essential to enable long-haul performance.

In this paper, we propose an online algorithm for multimodal categorization based on the autonomously acquired multimodal information and partial words given by human users. For multimodal concept formation, multimodal latent Dirichlet allocation (MLDA) using Gibbs sampling is extended to an online version. We introduce a particle filter, which significantly improve the performance of the online MLDA, to keep tracking good models among various models with different parameters. We also introduce an unsupervised word segmentation method based on hierarchical Pitman-Yor Language Model (HPYLM). Since the HPYLM requires no predefined lexicon, we can make the robot system that learns concepts and words in completely unsupervised manner. The proposed algorithms are implemented on a real robot and tested using real everyday objects to show the validity of the proposed system.
