While malware has posed a danger to businesses for years, advances in malware detection have lagged. Malware can cause damage to a system by starting unneeded services, which increases the system's workload and prevents it from operating smoothly. Malware detection can be done in one of two ways: the traditional signature-based approach or the more modern behavior-based approach. When malware is activated on a system, it conducts specific actions, such as launching malicious OS services or downloading malicious files from the web, that characterize its behaviour. The described technique detects malicious software based on its actions. The suggested model in this paper combines Support Vector Machine and Principal Component Analysis. © 2023 IEEE.

In recent days, the escalating need to seamlessly transfer data traffic without discontinuities across the Internet network has exerted immense pressure on the capacity of these networks. Consequently, this surge in demand has resulted in the disruption of traffic flow continuity. Despite the emergence of intelligent networking technologies such as software-defined networking, network cloudification, and network function virtualization, they still need to improve their performance. Our proposal provides a novel solution to tackle traffic flow continuity by controlling the selected packet header bits (Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP)) that govern the traffic flow priority. By setting the DSCP bits, we can determine the appropriate precedence level for the data traffic flow. The control and modification of the DSCP bits directly impact the priority assigned to data packets, thereby shaping the traffic flow continuity accordingly. The evaluation and performance analysis of the proposed network were conducted using the Mininet simulator and the MATLAB platform. The outcomes of the comprehensive testing demonstrate that the implementation of our novel priority management technique has successfully reduced queuing delay and minimized packet loss. As a result, the overall data traffic continuity has been significantly enhanced. The obtained results demonstrate that the traffic flow continuity, handled by the Software-Defined Networking (SDN) controller with the support of DSCP modification, has increased by approximately 65% when implementing the proposed priority management based on DSCP bits modification in the SDN network.

The advent and anticipated evolution of Beyond Fifth Generation (B5G) networks raise critical issues for the static Time Division Duplex (TDD) radio resource allocation technique. In Static TDD, the fixed allocation of uplink and downlink resources leads to poor resource utilization, with uplink channels often congested and downlink channels underutilized. This study addresses static TDD limitations by proposing a novel TDD configuration called Traffic-Aware Dynamic TDD (TA-TDD), aiming to satisfy the high-speed and low-latency communication requirements of various applications. Specifically, the proposed TA-TDD utilizes Convolutional Long Short-Term Memory (ConvLSTM) model to predict traffic before allocation of uplink and downlink resource. This method effectively manages uplink-centric traffic in wireless networks, to improve both network quality and user experience. Compared to static TDD, the proposed TA-TDD notably improves network throughput by as much as 20% in scenarios with high uplink demand. The findings demonstrate that dynamic TDD configurations significantly enhance network throughput compared to static setups, which offers an effective solution for network management.

This paper presents a robust and dependable monitoring system designed for space missions where reliability is critical. Theoretically, we use the Markov chain model to evaluate the availability of the system, considering multiple instances of backup devices. The results indicate a substantial improvement in system availability with the inclusion of backup devices. The findings highlight the significance of redundancy in enhancing system dependability while considering practical constraints. Based on this insight, we design an algorithm to deploy backup devices in the system that would improve the system's availability without putting strain on the resources (e.g., channel congestion). It uses backup devices at the sensor node and gateway levels. The algorithm involves backup devices that actively monitor and take over in case of failures, enhancing the system's ability to recover lost or faulty data. We test the system in three failure scenarios: hard failures, sensor failures, and gateway failures. We perform the experiments on our hardware prototypes. Experimental results demonstrate that using backup devices significantly improves the Packet Reception Ratio (PRR) in failure scenarios. We observed an improvement of 30 - 34% in packet reception for different failure scenarios.

In this paper we investigate implementing a Precision Time Base (PTB) technique to improve measurement jitter performance of digital sampling oscilloscopes (DSO) on a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). To achieve better measurements, two reference signals are used to correct time-base errors and minimize jitter added by the DSO itself (minimize measurement jitter). We show experimentally that using the aforementioned technique, measurement jitter can be reduced from 1.3 pico-seconds (ps) to 280 femto-seconds (fs) (depending on the data rate and the pattern length) on a high-speed DSO. © 2023 IEEE.

The error exponent of a discrete memoryless channel is expressed in two forms. One is Gallager’s expression with a slope parameter ρ ∈ [0, 1] and the other is Csiszár and Körner’s information-theoretic representation expressed using the mutual information and the relative entropy. They differ in appearance, and existing proof methods for their agreement are not elementary, requiring an evaluation of the Karush-Kuhn-Tacker (KKT) condition that an optimal distribution must satisfy. Similarly, there are two expressions of the correct decoding probability exponent or the strong converse exponent. They are Arimoto’s expression with slope parameter ρ ∈ (−1, 0] and Dueck and Körner’s information-theoretic expression. The purpose of this paper is to clarify the relationship between two different ways of representing exponents, namely, representation using slope parameters and representation using information-theoretic quantities, from the viewpoint of algorithms for computing exponents. Arimoto’s algorithm for computing the exponents is based on representation using slope parameters. On the other hand, the authors’ and Tridenski and Zamir’s algorithms compute the strong converse exponent based on Dueck and Körner’s information-theoretic expression. A family of algorithms that includes the above two algorithms as special cases was recently proposed by Tridenski et al. We clarify that the convergence of Tridenski and Zamir’s algorithm proves the agreement of Arimoto’s and Dueck and Körner’s strong converse exponents. We discuss another family of algorithms and, using the surrogate objective function used therein, prove that the two representations of the error exponent coincide. This proof method is elementary in the sense that it does not require evaluation of the KKT condition. In the second half of the paper, we discuss the error and correct decoding probability exponents of lossy source coding of discrete memoryless sources and the algorithms for computing them. With the rapid growth of urbanization, the need for sustainable, energy-efficient, and smart solutions for home, industry, governance, traffic, and in general, the need for improved quality of life and health has risen. As an enabling technology, the Internet of Things (IoT) must facilitate several advanced applications with varied QoS requirements for smart cities. In this regard, Long Range (LoRa) technologies can be an ideal communication protocol for resource-constrained IoT devices. The LoRa Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN) defines physical layer options and the medium access control (MAC) sub-layer protocols for facilitating low-power, low-rate communications among battery-operated wireless IoT devices. With the enormous number of IoT devices and growing QoS requirements, it is imperative to optimally allocate resources (bandwidth, spreading factor, and transmit power) to these constrained devices so that network lifetime can be improved. The Adaptive Data-Rate (ADR) technique is used by the Network Servers (NS) to adapt the transmission parameters of the devices optimally. This is based on several received parameters from the end devices as well as the network settings. In this work, we extend the ADR technique to the LoRa gateways to consider the class of LoRa devices and the frequency of transmissions further to extend the energy efficiency and lifespan of IoT devices. Additionally, there is a considerable delay in adapting to optimal settings for the end-devices resulting in excess power dissipation. Further, a novel mechanism is proposed to address the congestion issue in the network using the Spreading Factor parameter (SF).

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with multiple antennas have recently been explored to improve capacity in wireless networks. However, the strict energy constraint of UAVs, given their simultaneous flying and communication tasks, renders the exploration of energy-efficient multi-antenna techniques indispensable for UAVs. Meanwhile, lens antenna subarray (LAS) emerges as a promising energy-efficient solution that has not been previously harnessed for this purpose. In this paper, we propose a LAS-aided multi-antenna UAV to serve ground users in the downlink transmission of the terahertz (THz) band, utilizing rate splitting multiple access (RSMA) for effective beam division multiplexing. We formulate an optimization problem of maximizing the total system spectral efficiency (SE). This involves optimizing the UAV’s transmit beamforming and the common rate of RSMA. By recasting the optimization problem into a Markov decision process (MDP), we propose a deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG)-based resource allocation mechanism tailored to capture problem dynamics and optimize its variables. Moreover, given the UAV’s frequent mobility and consequential system reconfigurations, we fortify the trained DDPG model with a meta-learning strategy, enhancing its adaptability to system variations. Numerically, more than 20% energy efficiency gain is achieved by our proposed LAS-aided multiantenna UAV equipped with 4 lenses, compared to a single-lens UAV. Simulations also demonstrate that at a signal-to-noise (SNR) of 10 dB, the incorporation of RSMA results in a 22% SE enhancement over conventional orthogonal beam division multiple access. Furthermore, the overall system SE improves by 27%, when meta-learning is employed for fine-tuning the conventional DDPG method in literature. © 2024, CC BY.

Large datasets in machine learning often contain missing data, which necessitates the imputation of missing data values. In this work, we are motivated by network traffic classification, where traditional data imputation methods do not perform well. We recognize that no existing method directly accounts for classification accuracy during data imputation. Therefore, we propose a joint data imputation and data classification method, termed generative adversarial classification network (GACN), whose architecture contains a generator network, a discriminator network, and a classification network, which are iteratively optimized toward the ultimate objective of classification accuracy. For the scenario where some data samples are unlabeled, we further propose an extension termed semi-supervised GACN (SS-GACN), which is able to use the partially labeled data to improve classification accuracy. We conduct experiments with real-world network traffic data traces, which demonstrate that GACN and SS-GACN can more accurately impute data features that are more important for classification, and they outperform existing methods in terms of classification accuracy. © 2023, CC BY.

Sign language is a kind of conversation that consists of a set of gestures or postures used to converse with the deaf and mute. It is usually accomplished with hands, which implies profound signals, especially when both the receiver and sender are well-versed in the subject. Signals generated by hand gestures can also be used in a variety of applications such as augmented reality (AR), gaming, robotics, and vision-based applications. However, sign language interpretation via computer vision has yet to be implemented as a security access control, which could provide a significantly greater authentication method and better statutory provisions. The trained model's use as a security access control system was also taken into consideration. It is done by creating a Python-based GUI that takes a single frame from a camera. A layer loss of 2.803 and an mAP of 98.69 % were the final results after 14 epochs. The study shows that when compared to earlier comparable research pursuing the same objective, this study's validation accuracy is the highest. © 2022 IEEE.
