The gradually growing need for testbed use so as networking algorithms to be validated in real environments, has given rise to optimal utilization of testbed resources. Despite the fact that, many laboratories around the globe have deployed testbeds, so as experimenters have the opportunity to test their algorithms, the majority of those testbeds suffer from bad management that prevents users from efficiently exploiting testbed's resources. Moreover, as the number of testbed users increases, experimenters needs for more sophisticated allocation of testbed resources are growing. Toward, this direction, we propose a managerial framework that exploits testbed utilization by introducing slicing over frequency spectrum. This new framework will allow a more sophisticated way to optimally control and manage network resources of a testbed. Lab's website: http://***.

This paper presents an integrated pseudo-noise(PN) code acquisition processor (CAP) for popular WCDMA, CDMA2000 and 802.11b systems. In near future, multi-system equipments are going to be more and more popular because of their wide supports of hybrid communications. The integrated processor is able to accomplish essential and high-complexity PN-code acquisitions in popular 3rd generation WCDMA and CDMA2000 systems and IEEE 802.11b WLAN system. Different code acquisitions in these DS-CDMA systems are generalized and carried out through a correlation-element (CE) array and some peripherals. In addition, low-power design is also involved to reduce power consumption effectively. The CAP is implemented and verified in a 1.8-V 0.18-μm CMOS technology. © 2008 IEEE.

A novel approximate closed-form expression for the ergodic capacity of free-space optical (FSO) communication links over gamma-gamma (GG) atmospheric turbulence channels with generalized pointing errors is presented. The obtained expression is entirely valid from low to high signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR). It is concluded that despite generalized pointing errors cannot be ignored in capacity performance;they can be considerably mitigated by selecting an optimum beam width at the transmitter-side. In other words, there is an optimum normalized beam width value that minimizes the effect of pointing errors on capacity performance at high SNR that does not depend on atmospheric turbulence. © 2018 IEEE.

One of the most widely used schemes to extract feature points suitable for tracking in computer vision is "Good Features to Track". In this paper, we propose parallel implementation of the good feature extraction scheme optimized for the Cell processor, which is one of the latest high performance embedded processors. By utilizing the computational power of Cell suitable for image processing, we achieve high-speed computation of the operation. Experimental results show that our implementation with 6 SPEs can compute the feature point extraction in 1.4 ms when the input image size is 640 x 480 pixels. This is about 5 times faster than the computation on Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E6850 @ 3.00GHz with Intel Integrated Performance Primitives. This work is part of the CVCell project which is a software library compatible with OpenCV library optimized for the Cell processor. © 2009 IEEE.

The Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) technology's quick development greatly benefits the Collaborative Mobile Infrastructure System (CMIS). To combine the data and produce tasks, crowd-sensing data will be transferred to the MEC server in CMIS. Nevertheless, if there are too many devices, it becomes extremely difficult for MEC to decide appropriately based on the data from the devices and infrastructure. This study builds a framework for reverse offloading that carefully balances the relationship between task completion time and user mobile energy consumption. Moreover, to decrease system use generally, an adaptive optimal reverse offloading method based on Deep Q-Network is created (DQN). The results of the simulations demonstrate that the suggested approach may successfully minimize energy consumption and work latency when compared to full local and fixed offloading techniques. © 2023 IEEE.

Methodologies for the design and control of variable flux permanent magnet synchronous machines (VF-PMSMs) to meet electric vehicle traction requirements with significantly reduced driving cycle losses have been proposed recently. The effectiveness of the proposed methods was demonstrated by a systematic design based on finite element analysis (FEA) and experimental driving cycle loss evaluation of a full scale VF-PMSM prototype. In this paper, simplified analytical models are developed to estimate the properties and key performance metrics of VF-PMSMs across a range of power and are verified using FEA. Fundamental tradeoffs between the normalized high-speed power capability and the range of magnetization state (boldsymbol M boldsymbol S ) variation are identified. The relationship between boldsymbol M boldsymbol S variation range and driving cycle loss reduction is evaluated quantitatively across the design space. A detailed analysis of the scalability of VF-PMSMs including loss reduction capability and system cost (including active materials in the machine, inverter power electronics, and battery cost) is presented. © 2018 IEEE.

Higher temperature induced by higher power density results in higher cost, lower performance and lower reliability. The thermal effects become important issues of today's VLSI design. In this paper, we adopt a RC-based thermal model to perform the steady-state and transient thermal analysis for a tri-core SoC system. The power information is generated from the ESL power estimation. The results show that the lateral heat dissipation cannot be ignored since hot spots occur in the vicinity where the nearby blocks with high power density, but none of hot spots with the highest power density. Finally, we also compare our fast RC based thermal analysis model with commercial CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) software whose runtime is extremely slow. The results show the high degree of consistency. © 2010 IEEE.

A PACS architecture was simulated to quantify its performance. The model consisted of reading stations, acquisition nodes, communication links, a database management system, and a storage system consisting of magnetic and optical disks. Two levels of storage were simulated, a high-speed magnetic disk system for short term storage, and optical disk jukeboxes for long term storage. The communications link was a single bus via which image data were requested and delivered. Real input data to the simulation model were obtained from surveys of radiology procedures (Bowman Gray School of Medicine). From these the following inputs were calculated: - the size of short term storage necessary - the amount of long term storage required - the frequency of access of each store, and - the distribution of the number of films requested per diagnosis. The performance measures obtained were - the mean retrieval time for an image, - mean queue lengths, and - the utilization of each device. Parametric analysis was done for - the bus speed, - the packet size for the communications link, - the record size on the magnetic disk, - compression ratio, - influx of new images, - DBMS time, and - diagnosis think times. Plots give the optimum values for those values of input speed and device performance which are sufficient to achieve subsecond image retrieval times. © 1988 SPIE. All rights reserved.

In this paper, we present a novel iterative MPEG superresolution method based on an embedded constraint version of Adaptive projected subgradient method [Yamada & Ogura 2003]. We propose an efficient operator that approximates convex projection onto a set characterizing framewise quantization, whereas a conventional method can only handle a convex projection defined for each DCT coefficient of a frame. By using the operator, the proposed method generates a sequence that efficiently approaches to a solution of super-resolution problem defined in terms of quantization error of MPEG compression.
