In recent days, the escalating need to seamlessly transfer data traffic without discontinuities across the Internet network has exerted immense pressure on the capacity of these networks. Consequently, this surge in demand has resulted in the disruption of traffic flow continuity. Despite the emergence of intelligent networking technologies such as software-defined networking, network cloudification, and network function virtualization, they still need to improve their performance. Our proposal provides a novel solution to tackle traffic flow continuity by controlling the selected packet header bits (Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP)) that govern the traffic flow priority. By setting the DSCP bits, we can determine the appropriate precedence level for the data traffic flow. The control and modification of the DSCP bits directly impact the priority assigned to data packets, thereby shaping the traffic flow continuity accordingly. The evaluation and performance analysis of the proposed network were conducted using the Mininet simulator and the MATLAB platform. The outcomes of the comprehensive testing demonstrate that the implementation of our novel priority management technique has successfully reduced queuing delay and minimized packet loss. As a result, the overall data traffic continuity has been significantly enhanced. The obtained results demonstrate that the traffic flow continuity, handled by the Software-Defined Networking (SDN) controller with the support of DSCP modification, has increased by approximately 65% when implementing the proposed priority management based on DSCP bits modification in the SDN network. © 2024 IEEE.

This study introduces a design pattern to build microservices, which provides an opportunity for instant messaging software developers, Internet of Things(IoT) device manufacturers and third parties to deploy themselves belonging to the APIs in microservices. Users can use instant messaging software to access IoT devices through the APIs deployed by the system. Instant messaging software developers, IoT device manufacturers and third parties can develop and deploy APIs in Instant Messaging (IM) microservice and IoT microservice of this system based on the OpenAPI specification document using a design pattern. The goal of this system is for users to use the installed and usually used instant messaging software without having to install and learn new app to access various IoT devices. © 2024 IEEE.

The surge of interest in artificial intelligence systems has sparked new directions of research in the realm of music data analysis. At the same time, the exploration and exploitation of intrinsic musical structures and sequences, a timeless endeavor, continue to captivate scholars and practitioners alike. In this context, the fusion of computational techniques with music analysis emerges as a natural progression. One of the pivotal crossroads in this convergence is the identification of musical phrase boundaries, pivotal demarcations that underpin the organizational fabric of a musical composition. This article pioneers an inventive approach to address the challenge of detecting these musical phrase boundaries, harnessing the power of artificial neural networks. However, the innovation does not stop there;the pinpointed phrase boundaries undergo a comprehensive dissection utilizing pattern mining techniques. The focus of this analysis is on unveiling recurrent motifs and classifying phrases into coherent clusters, predicated on the repetitions and similarities exposed through these neural network-driven techniques. This exploration was conducted using an extensive repository of folk songs, a treasure trove of foundational musical expressions that indelibly shape the stylistic contours of musical compositions. We claim that the presented approach not only opens avenues for penetrating and nuanced analysis, but also enriches our comprehension of the intricate interplay of musical components and their manifestations inspired by neural networks. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, a novel approach of extracting features from multivariate time-series (MTS) with different time lengths, is proposed to enhance the clustering accuracy. Particularly, the feature extraction is conducted on time-sample segments of MTS, in which several segments are defined without overlapping. As for feature extractor, the conventional two-dimensional principal component analysis (2DPCA) is deployed due to its proven effectiveness in feature representation. Our experimental results show that the proposed segment-wise extraction of 2DPCA features is helpful in enhancing the clustering accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

The pervasive utilization of smartphones, while augmenting personal and professional communications, also elicits mental stress and disrupts the work-life balance. Users necessitate staying connected to critical updates without undue disruption, necessitating an optimized, user-friendly smartphone interface. However, current "Do Not Disturb (DND)"features fall short of providing the desired customization options, thereby contributing to heightened anxiety and diminished productivity. Consequently, this study proposes a design modification to the DND mode by incorporating an "Exceptional Apps Notification", feature thereby aiding in alleviating stress and enhancing focus by permitting essential alerts from selected apps or contacts. In other words, the users only need to turn off notifications for specific applications, not every application. This approach addresses the problem of users fearing they will miss some important notifications. Therefore, the design process employed principles of selective attention and color theory, and user experience was assessed through questionnaires and psycho-physiological feedback. Early findings suggest the potential for stress reduction, albeit with opportunities for further optimization, such as including a memory feature for user preferences and allowing selective access for specific contacts. © 2023 IEEE.

Recent versions of ChatGPT demonstrate an amazing ability to answer difficult questions in natural languages on a wide range of topics. This puts homeworks or online exams at risk, where a student can simply forward a question to the chatbot and copy its answers. We have tested ChatGPT with three of our exams, to find out which kinds of exam questions are still difficult for a generative AI. Therefore, we categorized exam questions according to a knowledge taxonomy, and we analyze the wrong answers in each category. To our surprise, ChatGPT even performed well with procedural knowledge, and it earned a grade of 2.7 (B-) in the IT Security exam. However, we also observed five options to formulate questions that ChatGPT struggles with. © 2023 Gesellschaft fur Informatik (GI). All rights reserved.

Uncovering the mathematical structure of unknown chaotic systems from limited time series data poses a significant challenge in the field of dynamical systems, with broad applications across various domains. In this paper, we propose a swarm intelligence approach to tackle this issue, specifically focusing on one-dimensional discrete maps. Our approach leverages the firefly algorithm, a popular nature-inspired metaheuristic, known for its optimization capabilities. We assess the performance of the method by applying it to two illustrative examples of time series derived from one-dimensional maps: the Hénon map and the Burger map. The results show that this approach is promising for recovering the equations of motion of one-dimensional chaotic maps, even in situations where no additional information is available beyond the provided data points. © 2024 IEEE.

Speech enhancement techniques improve the quality or the intelligibility of an audio signal by removing unwanted noise. It is used as preprocessing in numerous applications such as speech recognition, hearing aids, broadcasting and telephony. The evaluation of such algorithms often relies on reference-based objective metrics that are shown to correlate poorly with human perception. In order to evaluate audio quality as perceived by human observers it is thus fundamental to resort to subjective quality assessment and in doing so we identify subgroups of users where the subjective assessments correlate better to objective metrics. In this paper, a user evaluation based on crowdsourcing (subjective) and the Comparison Category Rating (CCR) method is compared against the DNS-MOS, ViSQOL and 3QUEST (objective) metrics. The overall quality scores of three speech enhancement algorithms from real time communications (RTC) are used in the comparison using the P.808 toolkit. Results indicate that while the CCR scale allows participants to identify differences between processed and unprocessed audio samples, two groups of preferences emerge: some users rate positively by focusing on noise suppression processing, while others rate negatively by focusing mainly on speech quality. We further present results on the parameters, size considerations and speaker variations that are critical and should be considered when designing the CCR-based crowdsourcing evaluation1. © 2023 IEEE.

In this work, we present a new approach for designing an autonomous bicycle robot. It is well known that bicycles can be laterally stable at certain velocities. This means that if the steering bar remains free to rotate, a bicycle can be designed so that it naturally steers in a way that corrects for deviations, keeping the bicycle upright. However, to the best of our knowledge this desirable property is not taken advantage of in previous works, since connecting a standard actuator to the steering bar, which is required in order to guide the bicycle to a desired direction, does not allow the steerer to be free to rotate. In this work we propose a unique actuation mechanism that allows guidance while keeping the steerer free to rotate, thus preserving the natural stability of the bicycle. Since the bicycle is mechanically stable there is no need for a low level controller, and thus, no need for sensors and sensor fusion algorithms. We demonstrate the concept with experiments performed on a 3D printed bicycle powered by a small electric motor and guided remotely. We provide all the CAD files and software in hope that it will be used by additional researchers in the field, and advance the frontiers of autonomous systems. © 2022 IEEE.

Image manipulation dates back long before the deep learning era. The classical prevailing approaches were based on maximizing patch similarity between the input and generated output. Recently, single-image GANs were introduced as a superior and more sophisticated solution to image manipulation tasks. Moreover, they offered the opportunity not only to manipulate a given image, but also to generate a large and diverse set of different outputs from a single natural image. This gave rise to new tasks, which are considered 'GAN-only'. However, despite their impressiveness, single-image GANs require long training time (usually hours) for each image and each task and often suffer from visual artifacts. In this paper we revisit the classical patch-based methods, and show that - unlike previously believed - classical methods can be adapted to tackle these novel 'GAN-only' tasks. Moreover, they do so better and faster than single-image GAN-based methods. More specifically, we show that: (i) by introducing slight modifications, classical patch-based methods are able to unconditionally generate diverse images based on a single natural image;(ii) the generated output visual quality exceeds that of single-image GANs by a large margin (confirmed both quantitatively and qualitatively);(iii) they are orders of magnitude faster (runtime reduced from hours to seconds). 22This project received funding from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (grant agreement No 788535), and the Carolito Stiftung.
