As a non-invasive angle closure glaucoma diagnosis procedure, Van Herick's slit-lamp Limbal Anterior Chamber dept. Estimation (LACDE) technique is preferably the current standard screening method preliminarily performed at hospitals and eye clinics. However, accuracy of dept. estimation is very much dependent on the slit projection distance from the limbus (LD). This study investigated the relation and designed a parametric model to reduce the inconsistencies between results and improving the Van Herick's method accuracy. Additionally, two different types of classifiers such as Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Decision Tree with addition of LD as a predictor were trained and tested for comparison with parametric model. In the end acquired results clearly showed the effectiveness of LD consideration in LACDE, which lead to improvement in the experimental results.

In this paper, we present CLOUDRUNNER, a framework that extracts arbitrary programs from a source code repository (e.g. GitHub), wraps them in a web service and tasking system, and deploys them over disparate cloud infrastructures and local clusters, automating their portability. In particular, CLOUDRUNNER automatically creates and configures virtual machines so that they can execute the applications, provides a web UI with which users parameterize their applications, deploys instances of the program as background tasks, and collects the results for easy access via a browser. CLOUDRUNNER is an ideal framework for deploying scientific simulation applications portably and as such, we use it to implement StochSS - Stochastic Simulation as-a-service (now available at http://***). We use StochSS to evaluate CLOUDRUNNER overheads and find that they are small, consistent, and amortized for even short running applications. © 2014 IEEE.

MAS research has investigated norms as a means to coordinate open multi-agent systems (MAS). This has spurred a strand of research on on-line norm synthesis algorithms for MASs. However, to the best of our knowledge, currently there is no computational framework to support the development and study of on-line norm synthesis. Here we present NORMLAB, a novel framework to support norm synthesis research, highlighting its important features. We also outline the operation of two novel on-line norm synthesis strategies, which significantly outperform the state of the art.

Much previous research has investigated explicit, machine-process-able norms as a means to facilitate coordination in open multi-agent systems. This research can typically be classified as considering either offline design (norms are synthesised at design time) or online design. Online synthesis techniques aim to construct norms for a system while that system is actually running. A promising recent approach to on-line norm synthesis has been proposed but it suffers from serious drawbacks: (i) it needs too much information; (ii) it ignores issues of compactness in terms of minimality (ensuring that norms are not superfluous) and simplicity (ensuring that agents can process norms with little computational effort). To overcome these drawbacks, we propose an optimistic approach which, even though it uses less information, is able to explore more norms and synthesises sets of norms which are more compact. We present experimental evidence of the quality of our approach.

Cellular operators have concluded that small cell deployments are a very cost-effective and quick solution to meet the ever growing demands on capacity and coverage in cellular networks for indoor and outdoor environments. While traveling in public transit vehicles, cellular subscribers usually experience poor signal reception and low bandwidth. We hence consider deploying small cells onboard (i.e., mobile small cells) such vehicles. This should enhance subscribers' quality of experience (QoE). We consider a Small Base Station (SBS) mounted in a public transit bus (i.e., mobile SBS) to serve onboard users. The mobile SBS aggregates users' traffic to and from the macroBSs. To further extract the underlying rich multipath-Doppler diversities resulting from the fast mobility and the associated selective fading channel, a pre-coded transmission is deployed in the mobile *** examine the achievable gain from enabling aggregation through mobile SBS in terms of the outage probability. We derive a tight-bound closed-form expression for the outage probability in the downlink (DL). Our results indicate that significant gain in outage probability and coverage are achievable.

Post-acquisition motion correction is widely performed in diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) to guarantee voxel-wise correspondence between DWIs. Whereas this is primarily motivated to save as many scans as possible if corrupted by motion, users do not fully understand the consequences of different types of interpolation schemes on the final analysis. Nonetheless, interpolation might increase the partial volume effect while not preserving the volume of the diffusion profile, whereas excluding poor DWIs may affect the ability to resolve crossing fibers especially with small separation angles. In this paper, we investigate the effect of interpolating diffusion measurements as well as the elimination of bad directions on the reconstructed fiber orientation diffusion functions and on the estimated fiber orientations. We demonstrate such an effect on synthetic and real HARDI datasets. Our experiments demonstrate that the effect of interpolation is more significant with small fibers separation angles where the exclusion of motion-corrupted directions decreases the ability to resolve such crossing fibers.

Compared with traditional news media, microblog holds overwhelming superiority in fast-diffusion and comprehensive coverage of topics. Microblog becomes an effective, particular and important carrier of affair information and many other text analysis tasks, e.g., event discovering based on microblog have special significance. Common tools of content analysis, such as topic model, however, experience severe data sparsity problems due to short length of microblog. Following previous researchers' idea, such as separating personal interest post from global event post, we further differentiate general topics from event topics and adopt nonparametric method to model the birth and death of event. We conduct experiments on Twitter data set, and the experimental results demonstrate that our method can not only discover event effectively, but also mine higher quality general topics.

Full virtualization is vastly applied in desktop virtualization. Although hardware-assisted virtualization greatly improves the performance, the interactive performance is still a bottleneck for full virtualization. Interactive performance is mainly influenced by I/O devices. In one hand, I/O devices are slow device. In another hand, they are often shared by multiple virtual machines through simulation. Our study focuses on the interactive performance optimization, and can mainly be classified into three categories: (1) Targeting multi-core system, we investigate virtual machine deployment to ensure stable performance of the whole system and individual virtual machine. (2) Dynamically adjust the resource among virtual machines based on the individual machine's interactive behavior. (3) Optimize the I/O request scheduler in term of the virtualization implementation. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

As scientific computation continues to scale, efficient use of floating-point arithmetic processors is critical. Lower precision allows streaming architectures to perform more operations per second and can reduce memory bandwidth pressure on all architectures. However, using a precision that is too low for a given algorithm and data set leads to inaccurate results. In this paper, we present a framework that uses binary instrumentation and modification to build mixed-precision configurations of existing binaries that were originally developed to use only double-precision. This framework allows developers to explore mixed-precision configurations without modifying their source code, and it permits autotuning of floating-point precision. We include a simple search algorithm to automate identification of code regions that can use lower precision. Our results for several benchmarks show that our framework is effective and incurs low overhead (less than 10X in most cases). In addition, we demonstrate that our tool can replicate manual conversions and suggest further optimization;in one case, we achieve a speedup of 2X. © 2013 ACM.
