Research is being conducted to replace conventional diesel engines with proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) propulsion systems in short-range coastal vessels to reduce marine pollution. These systems are recognized for their high energy efficiency and scalability. However, the operating temperature of PEMFCs significantly affects their performance and durability, making an effective thermal management system essential. Recreational vessels require temperature control in the cabin. This study developed an integrated thermal management system model, which includes an air-conditioning system for small recreational vessels during the summer months. The model analyzes thermal dynamics related to operating profiles and indoor cooling requirements. 2025 The Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers.

As sports grow in popularity need for effective online turf booking applications has also increased. Although some existing applications are faced with numerous challenges such as;restrictions on access, ineffectiveness in scheduling, and over-bookings, leading to frustrations and operational problems. This paper focuses on those problems by the presentation of an online turf booking application to streamline the booking process. The solution offers real-time updates, automatic payment, and safe transactions based on QR code. The more user-friendly the application is, the more efficient it will be. Firebase would be used for real-time data synchronization and the responsiveness of React interface ensures the smooth and conflict-free bookings. This solution would lead to increasing customer satisfaction as well as increasing the booking rates and effective utilization of sports facilities. © 2025 IEEE.

In contemporary society, effective communication remains a cornerstone of human interaction. However, bridging the communication gap presents significant challenges for individuals who are mute or unable to communicate through conventional means, such as sign language. This paper proposes a novel solution leveraging the power of Deep Learning (DL) techniques, specifically Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks, to address this issue. Our approach focuses on predicting and detecting actions performed by mute individuals based on sequential frames of interactions. This innovative application of DL and LSTM technologies not only provides a practical solution for overcoming communication barriers but also contributes to advancing inclusive technologies. Through meticulous analysis and training, the DL-LSTM model achieves an impressive 98% accuracy in both action prediction and detection. This work underscores the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in facilitating empathetic and inclusive communication practices, ultimately enriching the fabric of human connection in diverse societal contexts. © 2025 IEEE.

Web scraping, an automated process that extracts data from websites, is a powerful tool that faces several challenges. Existing scrapers often entail drawbacks, such as subscription fees and limited accessibility for small businesses. Concerns regarding the reliability and accuracy of data arise, especially with respect to real-time content. This study scrutinizes web scraping tools, delving into operational principles, advantages, and limitations, addressing applications in data mining, research, and social media marketing. Two scraping approaches, manual extraction, and automated methods, such as HTML parsing, were explored. Popular tools such as ParseHub, WebHarvy, and Octoparse have been discussed, but concerns about accessibility and accuracy persist. Libraries such as BeautifulSoup, Selenium, and Scrapy offer alternatives to those with programming skills. Although web scraping accelerates data collection, its limitations and potential drawbacks must be carefully considered. Investigating the Contribution of Structural and Contextual Features for Spam Detection

One of the detrimental consequences resulting from the rapid and effortless dissemination of information is the high flow of spam messages in user's electronic devices. Various studies have attempted to conduct spam detection by proposing several approaches for spam detection based on input features. However, the effectiveness and efficiency of spam detection need improvement. Therefore, this paper investigates significant feature schemes for spam detection, including structural features and contextual representation. We propose a hybrid approach combining both features and evaluate it using various machine learning algorithms for short message service (SMS) spam classification. Experimental results show that relying solely on contextual representation outperforms structural features, achieving an accuracy of 92.56%. However, the hybrid approach, combining both structural and contextual features, achieves superior results with an accuracy of 93.22% and an F-score of 95.12%. Among the classifiers tested, random forest demonstrated the most robust performance, consistently achieving accuracy above 90% across all feature extraction schemes. The findings highlight the potential of combining structural and contextual features to enhance spam detection performance, with practical implications for telecommunication providers aiming to improve SMS filtering accuracy. © 2025, Strojarski Facultet. This paper presents the hydration behavior of two commercially available geosynthetic clay liners (GCLs) under virgin conditions and after exposure to various wet-dry cycles (1st, 3rd, and 5th) hydrated with hydrating solutions of distilled water (DW), 0.0125 M and 0.125 M CaCl2 solutions. In addition, the hydraulic performance of GCLs was investigated using the cation exchange capacity (CEC), specific surface area (SSA), and swell index values of bentonite of GCLs under virgin conditions and after exposure to various wet-dry cycles hydrated with different hydrating solutions. The maximum water content of GCLs achieved during hydration at virgin conditions was 209%-225% when hydrated with DW and decreased with an increase in the concentration of CaCl2 solution. The achieved maximum water content of GCLs was slightly reduced with an increase in wet-dry cycles 1-5 hydrated with DW while reduced 10.4%-12.31% and 16.88%-21% with an increase in wet-dry cycles 1-5 for 0.0125 M and 0.125 M CaCl2 solutions, respectively. The CEC, SSA, and swell index values of bentonite decreased with changes in hydration solution from DW to 0.125 M CaCl2 solution. The CEC, SSA, and swell index values were reduced with an increase in wet-dry cycles 1-5 hydrated with CaCl2 solution. © ASCE.

This research investigates the feasibility of utilizing Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) in conjunction with Raspberry Pi-equipped Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) swarms. The primary objective is to overcome the limitations of traditional communication infrastructures in dynamic and decentralized environments. Specifically, we address the challenge of establishing reliable and efficient communication links within a swarm of UAVs engaged in various applications, including disaster response, military reconnaissance, and environmental monitoring. By integrating Raspberry Pi devices with UAVs, we aim to create a self-organizing communication network that enables seamless data transmission, coordinated swarm operations, and enhanced mission effectiveness. The research explores different synchronization strategies, including master-slave and decentralized approaches, to optimize swarm coordination. Furthermore, we investigate the potential of incorporating advanced technologies such as machine learning, computer vision, and swarm intelligence to further enhance the autonomy, adaptability, and overall performance of the UAV swarm. © 2025 IEEE.

The current study investigated the efficacy of Xanthan Gum (X), Guar Gum (G), and crosslinked biopolymer (X-G) on the erosion resistance of slopes constructed using medium compressible clay. The samples of dimensions 150 mm × 150 mm × 20 mm were prepared using the dry mixing method and compacted at maximum dry density (MDD) respective to the selected biopolymer dosages. The 28-day cured untreated and biopolymer-treated samples were subjected to an annual rainfall of 1,000 mm at a tilt angle of 45°. The resistance against erosion was quantified using the erodibility factor and dept. of erosion. The dept. of erosion was reduced by 77%, 89%, and 88% after amending the soil with 2% X, 2% G, and 1% X-1% G cured for 28 days. The crosslinked biopolymer-soil samples outperformed the other combinations and attained the lowest erodibility factor of 2. The addition of X and G led to the development of hydrogel coating around soil particles and resulted in a denser soil structure as revealed by Scanning Electron Microscopic (SEM) Images. The Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) confirmed the presence of hydrogen bonding formed by the interaction of biopolymer gel with the studied soil. The findings indicated that the crosslinked biopolymers can be adopted to control soil erosion of unstable slopes at lower dosages. © ASCE.

In the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) landscape, where the Cloud-to-Things Continuum (C2TC) paradigm is now a reality, industrial applications need to cope with highly heterogeneous network and computing resources. Moreover, many industrial applications also involve Mobile Nodes (MNs). Efficient allocation of network and computing resources to meet the stringent requirements of such applications is often a very challenging task. In this paper, we propose J-NECORA (Joint NEtwork and COmputing Resource Allocation), a comprehensive analytical framework to derive the optimal joint allocation of network and computing resources in the C2TC, that guarantees the application requirements, even in the presence of MNs. If the optimal allocation does not exist, J-NECORA provides a best-effort allocation that minimizes the delay. The proposed framework is highly modular and flexible, and can be easily customized to different scenarios. We validated its effectiveness through simulation experiments, focusing on a specific use case. For the considered scenarios, the performance predicted by our framework matches quite closely the simulation results. © 2014 IEEE.

3D printing is a technology used to manufacture three-dimensional shapes by layering liquid or solid materials. Since the proliferation of desktop 3D printers in the late 2000s, 3D printing technology has been widely applied in industrial design in various ways. Among the various 3D printing methods, Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) is the most commonly used owing to its cost-effectiveness and ease of use. However, its layer-by-layer deposition results affect the print quality and precision, necessitating the need for post-processing to improve the final output. Consequently, FDM has not been widely utilized for product manufacturing or final prototype production. However, recent advancements in industrial design have creatively addressed these limitations, allowing the utilization of FDM printers as tools for producing real products that enhance the user experience. This study examines the overall trends and characteristics of FDM-based 3D printing and explores its applications in industrial design with a focus on the user experience. © 2025 The Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers.
